Glad you two enjoyed Japan and especially the trains. I lived there for almost 20 years and rode a many as possible. You even passed two of my former neighborhoods on the Shinkansen: Hiyoshi in Yokohama just before Shin Yokohama and Kaneyama in Nagoya. In both cases I could look over and see bullet trains I passing overhead.
Also Japan is very safe - the “leave your stuff to hold your place” technique is all over the place, including the DMV and Starbucks. Also outdoor food is ok to bring in at movie theaters as well Concession stands aren’t a profit center in Japan 😂

I THINK THE BEST NATURAL GUIDE TO HOW IT REALLY LOOKS LIKE AND FEELS OF JAPAN I HAVE EVER SEEN. VERY COMPREHENSIVE AND REALISTIC DETAILS.
ALLIE IS AN EXCELLENT HOST AND GUIDE. SHE POINTS OUT ALL THE MINOR DETAILS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE IN A NEW PLACE.
AND ROB IS A GREAT PHOTOJOURNALIST. I REMEMBER HE WAS AN ACCOMPLISHED PHOTOGRAPHER IN HIS CAREER. ALL VERY, VERY GOOD WORK.

Great videos, as always! Thanks for all the tips. I enjoy traveling vicariously every time with you as I watch. I just wanted to let you know your video showed my apartment at 15:35 or so, just before the little park (part of which has the grave of Japan's first prime minister, Ito Hirobumi, whose face used to be on the 1,000-yen bills). You can even see my laundry hanging up. It's hard to believe I was literally about 50 feet away from you when you took that! Hope we can meet in person some day. An American in Japan.

I've read somewhere that people in Japan don't talk on trains and busses so they won't disturb anyone. Some Japanese people say that they can recognize Americans by how loud they are! Every country has their own traditions I suppose. Japan looks beautiful! I can tell how much you both enjoyed yourselves! ❤

It's very very quiet, yes if anyone talks on the train you'll know they aren't local. Tokyo is the quietest big city in the world.

About 20 years ago, we were on the empire building and supposed to go through glacier national park, but there was ice on the roads so we had to be diverted to a bus. It looked like a little school bus so it was kind of crowded, but my kids were still excited and we were late so they gave us a voucher 😊to stay in at the Oxford hotel in Chicago.

    To tourists from overseas
Top speed means nothing! Average speed is the best guideline for reaching your destination.
The instantaneous maximum speed of Shinkansen is 285k/h between Tokyo and Osaka.
    300k/h from Osaka to Fukuoka
320k/h from Tokyo to Aomori (360k/h during test run)
500k/h between Tokyo and Osaka by superconducting maglev train (under construction)

Small correction there, the Nozomi is not actually the fastest shinkansen in Japan in terms of speed, as it has a top operating speed of 285 km/h, while the Hayabusa on the Tōhoku Shinkansen reaches a top speed of 320 km/h (or 200 mph).

I hope you read my question. I tried going into your blogs but couldn't see where to ask a question. I have seen so many of your videos, but it hasn't made it clear to me about luggage check. I am going on a train, The Silver Meteor out of Jacksonville Florida to NYC and going to Chicago and then to Seattle. It will take 4 days and then an Alaskan cruise and back on the train. My question is do we ( my daughter and I ) check our bags in Jacksonville and pick them up in Seattle, or do we pick them up in each stop and check them onto the new train. The other question is can you ask for another pillow? I know you use the neck pillows under the others, but maybe it would help if you can get a second pillow. This is my first time on a train and first time on a cruise. All the videos for both have gotten me very informed. Thank you so much for all the information I have gotten.

I am not one of them but if your train is not late and you do not miss the connections and you book your trains in all the way through like Jackonsivlle to Seattle Amtrak will transfer the checked bags to the next train, but if you miss the connection this way you will pick up the bags and Amtrak will reroute and if needed pay for your hotel, but if you book this way Jackonsville- New York- Chicago- Seattle, you will have to picked up your checked bags in each city and then check them on the next train and if Amtrak is late this way you will be on the hook for the hotel if Amtrak will put you on the train the next day.
