Bob's memories of mid 80's comedy clubs in London brought back memories of many a saturday night spent laughing at The Tunnel Club in Greenwich, where the MC, Malcolm Hardy, once unzipped and peed on someone in the front row because they'd fallen asleep. The heckling was of a high if harsh standard and managing to perform your act successfully was considered a badge of honour. I saw the likes of Harry Enfield trying out his Posh Twat role, Punt & Dennis and others survive their turn but Jenny Eclair didn't and left the stage.
Bill Baily is a judus, Graham Linehan gave him his big break, yet cowardly virtue signally Bill goes out of his way to slag Graham off. Bob is a far better guest, human and comic on every level.
Seriously? Graham Linehan went off the deep end, down a rabbit hole of his own making. As he has claimed, it cost him his marriage and most of his work. Could it be that he's a righteous, crusading victim of political-correctness-gone-mad, or...maybe...just maybe...he's lost self-awareness, suffering from a persecution complex, and sees Reds under every Bed? There is a measured, grown-up debate to be had around transgender issues - but Graham's contribution is increasingly sounding like the rabid ravings of a damaged individual- sad to see.
Not really. Blackbooks only had any involvement from Linehan in the first series of three but Bill had had his own show on BBC 2 years earlier and he was pretty established then.
Speaking as Ben's P.A., i can attest to the fact that, after much deliberation back in his hotel room, of the 10 struggling young comedians i'd procured for the nights festivities, Ben did indeed 'fold five' as his nom de plume suggests.
