What a joy it is to celebrate the lives and careers of great stars. Lynn Anderson was a pioneer artist who broke many barriers for women in country music. And she survived 2 years on the Lawrence Welk Show with her career not only intact, but ready to explode! She was very lucky to have the kindest, most loving and fiercely loyal manager and confidant ever! Michael Dempsey is not used to giving interviews, but I think his big heart really shines through in this interview.

I met Lynn Anderson at the Michigan State Fair in 1971, I got her autograph and spoke to her for a minute or two. She was definitely a sweet person. Loved her on the Lawrence Welk Show and Hee Haw. I was a fan of hers since 1968 at the age of 8 i loved a lot of her early music. Her first hit single was written by her Mother Liz Anderson who was a family friend of Lawrence Welk there in North Dakota. Rose Garden, Big Girls Don't Cry written by her Mother Liz Anderson. No Another Time Ride, Ride, Ride Our House Is Not A Home Rocky Top all are pure classics.

Wow, just wow!! This interview had me in tears! Again, I had no idea about Lynn and much about her life but I am gobsmacked. Incredible interview yet again Harvey. I had to stop and listen to Michael's favourite Lynn tune (Keep Me in Mind") and just loved it. Beautiful vocals and not being a huge country fan my self with exception but I've already streamed the song and also the Rose Garden album in it's entirely. I couldn't find the album you loved most Harvey. At least not through Amazon music but it sounds like it would be a great album. Thanks for another wonderful podcast! And thank you Michael. I'm sure Lynn is smiling down. What a dedicated and fantastic manager anyone could ask for.

@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980Nevermind, thank you!! I'm retired now and the hours of entertainment and insight you have given me is more than I can ever thank you for. I'm now watching the Tony Orlando one and again blown away about the origins of Candida and Knock Three Times! This is all my era as I was born in 1956. Although most call me an old soul because of my love for classic film and older music from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Taking the gay part aside I should have been born in the 20's. We went through our own struggles so I can imagine what it was like for them back in the day. Thanks Harvey!! ❤

"Rose Garden" was one of the first songs I loved in early childhood and it's still among my favorites, thanks to a truly memorable arrangement and Ms. Anderson' fantastic, peerless vocals. I've probably played or heard the song over 1,000 times, and it never gets old.

Yes, throughout the interview, I was thinking to myself, “How many celebrities can say they have such a loyal and devoted person by their side?” In fact, how many people (celebrities or not) can say that? Damn few, I expect.

What a wonderful interview of a fabulous entertainer. You chose a great person to talk with, as Mikey is loved and respected by many more people than you will ever know. Very special in his own right, he is just that kind of person.

What a great interview! Michael, you've done so much for Lynn all those years. Like you said, Lynn was so devoted to her fans. I've been a fan since I've been 5 or six years old as well. I also received my first album (double album Chart Records set) for my birthday. I am hoping someday we will have a fan get together sometime soon. It would be great to see some of the fans I have met throughout the years. I was very proud to get a chance to record a tribute CD with Lynn's road band and will always be grateful for the opportunity. To help answer the question to what was Lynn's favorite song, I had asked her the same question and she told me that it would be the latest song she recorded.

I wanted to answer a question you asked Michael, about what was Lynn's favorite song. I had asked her that same question and she told me that her favorite song was usually what she had recently recorded. Although I know in some of her recorded live shows that I've listened to, she would state that one of her favorite country songs was "Stand By Your Man" and then she would sing it as no other could sing the song.

I remember watching her on Lawrence Welk with my gram. Rose Garden was one of my favorite songs...but of course it was for a lot of people. I wasn't much of a country music fan...but I certainly liked her! Great interview again Harvey!! Enjoyed it!!

also...cannot believe the CMA is stubbing her from the Country Music Hall of Fame for all she did for the genre in the 1970s
