You’re fast becoming one of my favorite cruise review TH-camr! Why? You give genuine commentary that isn’t always spinning a cruise line or some other ulterior motive. I feel as if I can trust your feedback. If we are ever on a cruise together, I’m buying you a drink! :-)
I really appreciate that. My goal is always to present things as I experience them on cruises so I’m glad that resonates with you. Thank you for watching!
Doing this cruise 2 weeks from today...can't wait! I recently priced out a solo cruise on RCL and they weren't just charging 200% for a solo but 220%!! That's crazy.
Solo cruisers want balconies too! When I am true solo as opposed to with a group, I prefer to eat dinner on my balcony with my wine and my book. My biggest solo wish is more options for “take-out.” I would happily pay the speciality dining up charge or even a fee to be able to pick-up dinner to go from the MDR. Logistically they could have limited availability and you would place your order by 1pm and specify a pick up time. Room service options are so limited and mostly mediocre junk. I am probably the only one that wants this though. 😂
American Diner use to be specialty, but they did not get a lot of business so they changed it to complimentary . I loved the Vibe and the waterfront. Thx for a nice video🚢🙂
I believe your Wrong. In the beginning this ship was built for the Asian market and they were willing to pay for a American experience. When it came to the western world Americans wouldn't pay extra for their own experience.
Hey Zach, Tampa here. Great info on NCL solo pricing. I have not sailed them yet, BUT, will now look into them. I love sailing solo, its just a no frills single luxury cruise. Do what you want, when you want. As for sailing out of Manhattan, its just an amazing few, both at daytime, and after dark. Enjoy your cruise.
I’m the full time carer for my elderly parents so I don’t get out much. Everyday I take a cruise, today I’m on the Margaritaville with you 😊. Bon voyage 🎉
Great video, Zach. As always. Very excited for this cruise series. I’m travelling over from Ireland in August to sail the NCL Joy. Really looking forward to the Manhattan sail away.
I found MSC to be very solo traveler friendly too. I did a Solo 4 night cruise from Miami on the MSC Magnifica and I paid 139 for the cruise plus taxes as a solo traveler. Less than 300$ total, booked it 2 weeks before the cruise. I booked guaranteed interior and when I got my cabin assignment I was actually upgraded to a Balcony stateroom. That NCL ship does look good, might have to look into them as well.
Happened to me on Celebrity edge, I am a budget traveler, I booked an inside guaranteed, what a delightful surprise to be upgraded a few levels up at no extra $$$
Thanks for showing us the Joy. I’m sailing Joy for 21 nights from Seattle to Miami in 2025. I also scored a Solo Balcony cabin so am pleased about that. Now, I will say what you pay for a cabin and how much enjoyment you get from your cruise are in no way related. A good deal on a cabin price doesn’t mean much if someone comes away feeling sour about their cruise experiences. Hopefully you had a pleasant voyage which left you with nice memories.
I sincerely appreciate your reviews. I feel you are the most honest cruise blogger. The others feel like the just wanna keep getting the freebies from cruise lines and won’t be negative
We had a great cruise on Celebrity that left from the NJ port. Was very cool sailing out of the Hudson River. Definitely worth trying a cruise out of there. We went to Greenland and Iceland on ours.
Great, Informative video. Thank you for sharing. Great to hear Norwegian has options for solo cruisers like us. Nothing worse than cruise lines that think they can charge double for a single cruiser, which there are many of us these days.
Great as usual Zack. Thanks for the information. Look forward to seeing the rest of your journey. Bermuda is very relaxing as you know beautiful pink sand beaches
Love it Zach! Looks like this cruise was amazing! I was with you in spirit! What an awesome solo deal too. I will definitely check it out… can’t wait to see the rest of the cruise videos.
We are SO excited to see that you are sharing NCL Joy vlogs! We first discovered your channel last year before we sailed on the Celebrity Summit. Cannot wait to watch this series! We will be on the Joy at the end of this month. 👩🏻🦰❤️🛳
Love the review. We were on the Joy at the end of May also. In fact, it may have been the same cruise as you since we sailed away 30 minutes early also! And, since I see the thick fog that really obscured the Verrazano Bridge... I'm convinced we sailed the same week as you. Loved the ship! By the way, not all NCL ships have a Haven. We have sailed in a few different Havens and they're all wonderful. And, lately the Haven has been sold out way early. So, the chances of being selected for the bid upgrade is slim... unless someone cancels. Also, another tip. If you wait until after midnight on embarkation day, you'll be able to upgrade to unlimited internet for way less. When we sailed on Joy, I upgraded my interne on day 2 for only $100.
Thank you for all those informations. I was on the Bliss in January/February 2023 for the crossing of the Panama Canal, the twin of the Joy and I will be on the Joy, in a Solo balcony cabin, in September for a back to back Quebec - New York - Quebec.
Thank you Zach for the information, I booked a Soli Balcony with NLC for mi first time with them, because it was a good deal, cruising to Alaska! So I’m looking forward to a good experience with them next year, since I have seen so many mixed reviews.
Thanks Zach! As always, great video quality and information. A cruise out of New York (or Bayonne) is on our bucket-list. I miss NYC - had to business trips to a customer on Lexington Ave back in the day...
@@lapuce8830 yup! This was for a solo balcony cabin on the joy on its late august 2024 sailing. The price is like $1900 (although it may have sold out since I last looked) for 5 days.
Being a solo cruiser, you have to shop NCL does not always have single price cabins all the time, out of Miami its tough, After covid thru to half way through 2023 they were always available. 2024 it;s been had ( I take 10 to 12 trips a year)
I honestly love Norwegian. They are definitely my favorite cruise line. The late completion of rooms on embarkation day is annoying, but I've never had a problem with just going down to the room and dropping my bag off and leaving right away. The attendants don't seem to care. The free at sea program might honestly be the best deal at sea. I don't drink anymore so I personally click that option off and save on those gratuities, but the 2 specialty dinners for like $20 of gratuities is an insane deal especially with how much food you get. I also like the excursion credit too. I've gone on some amazing excursions for around $20 or $30 after applying the $50 credit. I'm an NCL fanboy for life I think haha
Looking forward to seeing your videos on the Joy! That balcony room is normally what two of us share, that’s amazing for the price and size. 😊 The sail away of NY was beautiful!😍
Gee what an enjoyable intro video for a week's cuise to Bermuda which is on my bucket list...what a nice solo balcony room!! Thanks so much, I really love the info you give and getting the feel for the wait, the walking info, what is in that free at sea package for a solo, what reservations do you need to handle...how difficult eas everything, the real cost...very very appreciative and with the raising costs...that is a wonderful price for a very nice looking regular balcony for a solo price....not at all as small as the old regular balconies on Norwegian...all very very nice. Thanks again. Bermuda even 30 years ago my TA said was expensive so moving along with prices I am sure making a week of it and even just if you figured for your days there are both probaly less than 4 days by air and hotel and you may not have that ever changin waterfront balcony!!
Hi Zach great video the joy was my very first cruise last year Labor day week I had very good time on the joy and will love to go back next year safe travels Zach
Thank you so much for this video. I especially appreciate the part where you discussed going on the train, arriving at Penn Station and how you were able to walk to the cruise terminal within 30 minutes. Also that the terminal was located in Manhattan at Pier 88. All of those little details help so much when doing research to prepare for getting to/starting the cruise. Would also love details on what you did upon return to Manhattan? Did you spend a night, and if so ,where or were you able to go directly to Amtrak to head back South? I am in the Richmond VA area and ride the train too. Looking forward to more content on this Bermuda trip!
Thanks for watching! I just returned this morning and immediately walked back to Penn Station and boarded the train home. Hope to spend more time in NYC next time. A great place to cruise from.
Hi Zach, I loved your vlogs from Celebrity. Especially your Retreat info before our cruise on the Beyond. We are also huge fans of the Haven on NCL. Would love to see your comparison to the Retreat if you do get a chance to sail in the Haven. The Haven restaurant is outstanding. Thanks for this video!
I am a fan of NCL and the Joy is my favorite ship so far. My wife and I did that same Bermuda cruise. Q Smokehouse is fantastic. Great food. Great music. Boarding was awful on our cruise (waited over an hour in a non-moving line, many people came before their allotted embarkation time and were rewarded for doing so) and disembarkation was just a chaotic mess (lines up and down all the stairways like NCL has never disembarked passengers before). Let us know how your disembarkation went. Great review.
Great video! Question for you. We're doing our first NCL cruise in October, on the Breakaway out of Manhattan. 90% of why we're trying NCL this time is because I wanted to sail past the Statue of Liberty. It looks like it's on your right as you're pulling out of port, correct? We have an aft-facing balcony that's on the right side/corner, so I'm thinking we might be in the perfect spot to see the Statue as well as the skyline . . . just kind of as we pass it since we're in the back. Does that sound right to you? I just want to be sure I'm in the best place to see the statue. I'm thinking from about 24:52 to 25:10 in this video will be our vantage point, being in the aft/right corner, and our balcony kind of hooks around a little. Do you think that's a good place to be?
I have the same cruise inside cabin, got it from casino offer for $450, cruised for the first time in march funnily enough on the joy in march of this year and loved it, so happy to go again in a few weeks
off from work the week for July 4th so gonna have a great time and play golf all 3 days in bermuda, will spend a ton less for this Golf trip than I wouldve anywhere else especially during the holiday week and will have a much better time. Like i said I got it through casinos at sea, but I think even solo it wouldve only been like 12ish for solo inside. Vibe is definitely worth it, and hopefully I can get an upgrade to a balcony.
Norwegian has been very late in getting their rooms ready since they switched to once a day service. We have sailed out of NYC where the rooms were ready AFTER sail away. It’s actually one of the things that has been deterring me from NCL lately. They have cut back a lot on service over the last couple of years. I am platinum so I have a lot of NCL cruises under my belt but have switched to Celebrity for more service.
Hey Zach! Lovin’ your Solo traveler videos! Is there a special place you go to find available solo cruise deals? I just went on NCL and every cruise I looked at came up unavailable for a solo cabin. All in 2025. Is it just getting that crazy out there right now or is there just a lot of us solo cruisers these days! Thanks for all your videos.
Hi there! Check out CruisePlum.com and they will have a great tab at the top just for solo cruises. This will highlight deals and is actually how I found this great cruise deal.
Not that odd to be at the CruiseNext desk on boarding day. There can be substantial savings by booking when you're on board and so if I've already determined what my next cruise will be I'll book once on the ship.
I was on the same cruise, same time, room 12166… i paid alot more than your $1600, i paid double your fee, plus air thru Norweigian. I booked in December, solo, no drink package, i did get airfare but that was only $357.

I went on their website and searched for solo deals on a balcony, but I can't find anything close to the price you got of 1600.00. I paid $4,300 as a solo cruiser on the Celebrity Beyond for 14 day transatlantic from Rome to Fort Lauderdale with the Premium Drink Package and the Solo Infinite Veranda. I wanted to the Aquaclass cabin which was over $6,000 and out of my budget. This was October 2023 and the cruisea were selling out a year in advance.
Love your videos. Sorry for not picking, can you please say "docked" instead of "parked". Ships are docked not parked. Thank you and keep up the good work.
That's so sad about the observation lounge being reduced to add more cabins. It's a wonderful place to relax...it must be even more difficult to find a place to sit now.
🇺🇸🛳️Zack, thanks for all the great videos. We get a lot out of them. We took a cruise from Manhattan to Bermuda… I’ve been all over the Bahamas in Caribbean and Bermuda is just a superior little community. Since you’re a big cruiser, Try this - go observe the wake towards the front of the ship If you stare long enough, you’ll see schools of flying fish come up… Probably my favorite entertainment.🤣😂🤣. I have noticed that there are some crazy deals out of both NY ports and NJ. In Manhattan parking was over 300 but truly worth it. Keep up the great video work …. Easy to follow the story.
We ate at Q night one. We were also allowed to choose 2 additional full sized sides. There was way too much food!! I live in SC and dislike all the BBQ restaurants. But we loved Q. They have Q as one of the vendors in Indulge on Prima

Glad you liked it!
Thank you for the great info & tour of the ship Zach!!! Take Care... Great price for a solo!
Thanks for watching!
Oh, one additional….sea days can be the most relaxing fun.👍🛳️
Absolutely, I love sea days!
I do want to try Oceania in the future.
Love your videos. Sorry for not picking, can you please say "docked" instead of "parked". Ships are docked not parked. Thank you and keep up the good work.
We’re best views starboard or port side?
Do you still recommend to select a early check in time?
I always do as early as possible.
Does Zack ever review Carnival?
I have several vlog series and reviews on Carnival ships on the channel. My most recent was on Carnival Pride less than a year ago.
That's so sad about the observation lounge being reduced to add more cabins. It's a wonderful place to relax...it must be even more difficult to find a place to sit now.
I thought the same before I boarded the ship but actually never once found it so crowded that I couldn’t find a seat.
The internet never recognizes your login information until 3-4pm on embarkation day for some reason.
Unfortunately ncl has been cutting down on entertainment and once a day cabin cleaning
That's an amazing price. How did you book it, with an agent?
I found it online and booked with my agent.
Thanks, I'll definitely have to try that out!
We missed each other. I got off the ship on Sunday
So did I, Joan! So we actually cruised together and still missed each other. 😔 Hope to see you next time!
We ate at Q night one. We were also allowed to choose 2 additional full sized sides. There was way too much food!! I live in SC and dislike all the BBQ restaurants. But we loved Q. They have Q as one of the vendors in Indulge on Prima
Wow amazing week for the $$
Yes it was!
I don't think this guy cruises a lot it's mustard station,
Too over crowded. Pool so small. Can't even get a seat for trivia. Not my favorite
