First off...you look lovely my friend :) You mentioned the Beast of Bray road...back in 1976 (the year my grandfather died), we were traveling back to Milwaukee from Kenosha, and we on Hwy 32. It was sometime in the summer...because I remember having my window down and the air was pretty warm...and the sun was down. Somewhere before we reached Racine, the headlights of the car flashed upon something moving across the road. At first we thought it was a bear all reared up on it's hind legs...but as we got closer, we could see that it looked more like a large wolf up on it's hind legs...but it was WAY TO BIG to be a wolf. I remember my mom saying "rolll up your windows" frantically as my dad brought the car to a dead stop. The creature ran off into the woods, and we just sat there stunned and frightened. Eventually my dad started the car moving again...and my mom turned to him and whispered "what was that?". My dad just shook his head, and we never talked about it again. Fast forward to 2005. I read a book called "The Beast of Bray Road" by Linda S. Godfrey, and I asked my mom at that time if she thought that maybe is what we saw...and she thought it might be! Whatever it was, it was pretty fricken scary for 8 year old me! In regards of the Headless Horseman being Odin...the Hessians were a pretty bas ass group of mercenaries. I like to believe that the warrior spirit of the Northmen were kept alive in the Hessians. To the people living in America at the time, the Hessians probably seemed pretty scary and wild compared to the regimented British and American soldiers. Stories of Wotan by the Hessians mixed with Native American stories and just the fear and stress of the time probably culminated into what we know as the headless horseman. Good stuff Amy! Great research, as always my friend :)
