- Doubling for an injured friend, Onslow Stevens returns to investigate the death of the friend's father. It is a take on 'the old dark house' plot, even if a lot of the action takes place during the day! To complicate things, he falls in love his friend's fiancé who isn't aware he isn't her intended.

Fine after dinner movie on this Thanksgiving night. Not one minute spent watching football. It's imperative that I remain sedentary for a few hours. This film couldn't be a better adjunct. A well paced cerebral story with just enough intriguing developments to keep one in both anticipation and suspense. No need to try to guess who the villain is, that's made clear early on. This gives you a strong yearning to see justice done. Because the culprit (a pair of vile miscreants actually) knows the truth is beginning to make itself known another crime is in the making. I'm stopping here. I'm not gonna spoil a great movie. I fortunately left out several other components to prevent that from happening. Enjoy. I certainly did. Thank you Classic Hollywood Movies, you deserve a handful of thumbs up and my subscription!
Janet Chandler is buried here in my home town of pine bluff Arkansas she was born here.
You might know the Pearsons, they have some wonderful historic properties on Barraque Street. They remember something about Margaret Mitchell and the Kennedy event, Margaret or her husband’s place being nearby theirs.

Had a good time with this and Onslow Stevens should'a been way bigger than he was! Sadly, he died miserably in '77.

Onsliow looks like Chaplin
Good heavens, I looked up his father--also an actor. His father was in one of my favorite movies, Dark Passage, playing the disbarred, defrocked, whatever they do to doctors, doctor who performed the plastic surgery on Bogart. Scared the degeezers out of me even if he hadn't been holding that scalpel.
This is a good movie with believable dialog. One also sees rich Americans imitating English upper-class such as in the way they treat their servants as underlings. Then there is the rich young guy who has worries about his family's reputation.
Good movie and the villain did such a good job of switching his 'languages'. Onslow Stevens was quite handsome and lovely voice.

Great Film! Except the unnecessary Public Domain taking up a large lortion of the screen which makes me NOT subscribe!
Another "in the public domain" movie with a logo that covers "half" the screen! I'm giving it a thumbs down though the covering on a thumb up a dark place where the Sun don't shine would be more descriptive!
