This was a beautiful Mass. A true blessing. The lowering of the cover to the Monstrance was always heavenly. Those who knew her...know what she would have thought. God bless ya'll for ya'll's opinions!
All the mitres were like that before Vatican II. They shrank afterwards. Then Pope John Paull II shrank them even further into the tiny little things they are today. It's almost as if they're embarrassed to wear them or something. Prior to Vatican II the popes mitre and some cardinals and bishops mitres had actual gemstones in them and they were called 'precious mitres.' Todays' mitres are called 'simple mitres.' The precious mitre still exists only it's just a fancy mitre, short in length and no gemstones. Today, cardinals and bishops are only allowed to wear them in the presence of the Pope.
Yes, prior to Vatican II, all mitres were like that. Some even had real gemstones in them and were called 'precious mitres.' Pope John Paul II shrank the size of the mitre down to almost nothing. They are called 'simple mitres.' The precious mitre still exists only its small, no gemstones (it's just fancier cloth) and can only be worn in the presence of the Pope. To be honest, they've pushed the envelope of Vatican II reforms so much, I'm surprised Pope Francis hasn't done away with the mitre altogether. He always acts like he can't wait to get the thing off his head.
Cardinal Burke in modern vestments doing a Novus Ordo Mass in Latin? Mama Angelica must be spinning in her grave! I thought he'd do one of his famous Tridentine high pontifical Masses in Latin. 25 years already. I remember when this church first opened and I watched it live on EWTN when they cemented in the altar stone and the Bishop consecrated the altar.
@@raissajenna9638 Yes, that's true. The Novus Ordo can in fact be said in Latin. In fact, that is what the Pope uses when he says mass in Saint Peter's Basilica. I'm curious as to why, despite all I said in my comment, you only chose to address the language in which the Mass is said? It's well known that Mother Angelica hated Vatican II, all the reforms and did not like the Novus Ordo. She built that church. Cardinal Burke is also known for hating Vatican II and the Novus Ordo and has sparred with the Pope numerous times and has even been punished. He's famous for traveling around the country doing high pontifical Tridentine Masses and wearing pre Vatican II vestments. He even has a cappa magna he wears when processing up the aisle and is known for vesting at the altar. That is what I meant by my comment about mama spinning in her grave. Why didn't he do one of THOSE Masses which I'm sure would have pleased her?
I should add that given the prohibitions/restrictions by Pope Francis regarding THOSE MASSES, this would not have done any good and in fact would have further harmed Cardinal Burke and the Shrine.

It's absolutely sublime!

She’s fine. You’re the one who has an issue with this. Novus Ordo can always be said in Latin.

@@retroguy9494 You made the point that Cardinal Burke celebrated the [NO] Mass in Latin. And, I’m sure she’s not spinning in her grave.

Hes a joke ....
Does anyone know what (Votive?) Mass was being offered? I couldn't quit make out the Introit?
