2024 Cornell Hemp Webinar Series
January 24, 2024
Abstract:
Interest in fiber hemp for textile and nonwoven applications is growing among North
Carolina farmers and end-use manufacturers. North Carolina is currently the only state
to house both large-scale decorticators and degummers. In order to meet current and
future demand for textile-grade fibers, sound, data-driven agronomic recommendations
need to be developed. This presentation will highlight some of the fiber hemp research
and extension work initiated at NC State. We will discuss agronomic and processing
challenges, results from preliminary field trials, and areas requiring further investigation
to ensure that fiber hemp persists as an economically viable, socially equitable, and
environmentally sustainable crop of the future.
