  • Hey Guys, hope you are doing great! Welcome to another episode of What's in my finds bag. So going to be straight, we were not literally Metal Detecting on the grounds of Harvington Hall but we were literally just a couple of fields away! So it wouldn't be a stretch for the the period stuff we found to have come from the residents or even the Priests that sought refuge there!

The tail is just large enough to be about right for a 1/32 scale horse, which was a common scale for toy soldiers. Is the tail lead? That would have been one of the most common materials for that sort of thing. If it is another metal, I would think then it might be some kind of sculpture part... given the size, perhaps part of a windvane maybe? The unidentified bronze bit that you found makes me think of a fitting for a sheathe of some kind of blade, specifically at the tip of the sheathe to protect the point of the blade but it also seems to me it would be more likely that something like that would be made of brass. Who knows, given that it is bronze it could be something incredibly ancient! The Charles I shilling is a stellar find!

Hey you might be onto something with the bronze bit you know, I'll see if I can get some of the dirt out of the opening for a better look! The tail isn't lead but I'll have look into the toy horse suggestion as it makes sense that's what it would be! Thanks as always for taking the time Gev always appreciated 👍
