0:15 so those naxxramas invasion shadows still follow people? and yes, im talking about year 2020 and 40 man naxx, i remember it's then they started to appear and pretty much never gone...
From multiple beta experiences, I've come to know that each playable state of beta is in fact about 2 versions behind of what blizzard has in their hands. PTRs are 1 version behind most of the times. So what you see in the Beta right now is NEVER what will be released. Also, I can't remember a single piece of content or system that was completely broken from release. Expecting blizz to release the guild system the way it is in beta right now is a historically inaccurate assumption. Lots of things you see right now in the beta have already been fixed, they just havent updated the live beta version yet. That happens every 2-3 weeks most of the times.
Every time the beta server is down, I cross my fingers and pray for a miraculous storm, blizzard if you will, of changes, fixes and adjustments. Only to find minor changes that doesn’t really make any impact. I’m disappointed and scared. Disappointed in the pacing schedule they have presented, it is WAY too fast. 8 months till last patch?! What the actual &7+’. And I’m scared the first 2 of those 8 months are going to be riddled with bugs and broken stuff… Blizzard please give us some information on your progress and problems, so we can sleep at night! Ps. Love your content Karrot. Quality + fun, you can’t go wrong with that and great to see you on Scottejays podcast. Keep up the great work 😊
I am honestly not as worried about the state of the BETA as I am worried about the terrible communication from Blizzard. They could not make it any more obvious that Cataclysm is a neglected scalding hot pan on the backburner right now. From the things they HAVE communicated there are valid complaints that the community has brought up. For example, most of us want more than three months of Firelands. There is NO reason to rush us to Dragon Soul (the worst part of the expansion). Can we trust Blizzard to listen to this? As it is now...I highly doubt it. I understand they want to rush forward to MoP. I get it. I really do. Rush Dragon Soul though, not the good fuckin' bits like Firelands.
Kinda feels like their expectation is for us to keep running Firelands well into the Dragon Soul phase which is... not what the majority of people do or even WANT to do.
The real issues you have regarding the beta is the expectation that reported issues will be remedied immediately and that we're playing on a fresh build. YES, this beta is and especially was in a rough state... No! The Cata UI was in a rough state. We all know they've updated to a modern client, the UI isn't just plug n' play, but that didn't keep us from questing in the shattered world, did it? Especially considering how much of the UI was running with Wrath UI files. It's so clearly not an area we should be focusing on! While we can assume Cata is feature complete, the feature completeness of this beta was clearly to test the world / leveling experience, NOT the UI. The latest patches has added loads of cata UI files. The update from a few days ago added lots and left lots missing causing lots of lua errors. Even one during the login screen. An error that simply complained that a .lua file couldn't be loaded. Simply because it didn't exist! Something any developer/tester can verify themselves by extracting the interface code through the console. The next update added lots of these cata files and functions, but we're still missing stuff / stuff still hasn't been updated to the new client. Your expectation is that the game is feature complete, like working feature complete with a few bugs. Fact is that they knowingly released the beta as a feature complete world with quests and known missing features, especially with the UI. I'm not trying to defend Blizzard, but the beta itself isn't bad in any way, what's bad is the lack of communication from Blizzard. That's truly what people should complain about. As a developer I both understand your point of view and I also don't! There's lots of valid criticism against content creators like you and Scottejaye for the lack of understanding what has focus and not during a test like this. Blizzard deserves a big chunk of that complaint as well for lack of communication, but if you aren't a content creator but an actual developer / QR tester, you wouldn't really be surprised! They might call this a closed beta, but it's as public as it gets, you won't have 1 : 1 communication with them. You're nothing but cannon fodder set to test the world and report back what doesn't work, so Blizzard can work on that with a smaller internal team. It's quite normal not to be deeply involved in a public test like this! Lots have been reported, we've done our job, we've identified areas with issues. Don't expect it to be considered critical and fixed quickly. It's one thing for a small team of developers and testers to test all quests and find issues in a big world, it's another thing to go through and thoroughly test reported issues. We've done the hard job! Identifying broken parts of the game they might have missed. This was never intended to be a way for content creators to create guides and shit for their community. This was to test the damn game! Content creators - I actually think it was Scottejaye - complained that too many non-content creators was invited to the test... I honestly think the biggest issue was inviting content creators in the frist place. Especially considering the state of the game. They should have focused on actual testers instead!
Blizzard's beta build is much further along then what the public gets. Blizzard beta's are for advertising purposes not testing purposes. They already know and have the game working and ready. Its been this way for over a decade at this point. Its hilarious that others haven't figured this out still. I swear they release "buggy" beta's on purpose. It gets people talking.
I shouldn't make assumptions about what has or hasn't been fixed, but I know for certain that the public client and blizzards internal client are 2 different things. It is very likely many of the bugs you experience have already been fixed but the public client hasn't been updated yet.
Not gonna lie, im also starting to get slightly worried BUT hear me out. I feel there's a misconception on what the objective is for us, beta players. Our role, or what Blizzard gets out of having an open/closed beta, is for us to test what doenst work on its original state, not test fixes. I'll use Rise of the Brotherhood as an example to explain what i mean. We go into westfall and do 50+ quests until we get stuck in Rise of the Brotherhood cause its bugged, then we report it. We just saved QA 50+ to test, they can go directly to Rise and fix that, then THEY test the fix and make sure its working. Theres no point for us to test it again with the fixes cause they already know its now working. Even in cases where something bugged prevent us from testing further, its already a massive narrowing of QA testing, like Resonating Blow in Deepholm. We cant progress further into the zone, sure, but we already did like 3/4 of the zones by that point and the rest can be handled by their team. Lack of communication is definitely frustrating, specially with Aggrend tweeting hourly about SoD random bullshit, but i still expect the game releasing in a decent state despite what we are seeing
For those arguing saying its a beta an Alpha build is very early on, mostly playable. A beta should be pretty much a nearly complete and relatively fully playable build that isn't quite at release level..
if people expect the bug they report get tackle in the same beta live server you're up for disappointment. what you are playing is not the current state of the build they are working on.
i think they're mostly ripping out guild leveling and gating perks behind them -- they've previously stated that the system itself was a mistake and they didn't like how it made creating a new guild harder
Buddy maybe I'm the crazy one but I honestly think they don't need to show you/us which bugs they have fixed or haven't fixed. They can have whichever approach they decide to have right? It's their company. I really think they know far better how to build/develop the game than you or me or most of the players. Meaning 99% of the bugs will not be there at launch I'm pretty sure of it and it doesn't matter in which state beta currently is. TLDR: They are using beta players as free interns to spot most of the bugs and fix them before launch, they don't fix beta version for interns.
I am also pretty sure they will fix a lot of bugs if not all reported bugs for the launch, but one could expect a multi dollar company to communicate with their players who took on the role of beta testers
Every decent developer knows an assumed fix might have introduced a plethora of new bugs a needs a verification. Does Blizz have enough manpower to test all fixes without showing to actual beta testers? I'm in doubt.
My thoughts are this, they don't care. They absolutely could communicate more if they really wanted to, they have proven this with SoD. Season of Discovery get will direct feedback tweets frequently, almost everyday. In the beginning of Classic, this was also the case. During most of Wotlk, they simply stopped communicating and bugs that were in the beginning of the game, mostly stayed in the game. Everything they do in Cata will most likely be extremely half ass'd, as most of their attention is focused on SoD. Is this completely the fault of the Classic Team? I'd like to say no. From my understanding, the Classic team is very small, and now having to work on multiple games, Classic Era, Classic Wotlk/Cata, and SoD. But is Blizzard proving again that they are a really bad company? Yes.
Prot paladin is unplayable It doesn't learn the class skills when you select prot specialization and put talents on, and when you turn righteous fury on, every spell, and I mean EVERY SPELL turns righteous fury off
I don't know, but I genuinely think Blizzard has an As under their sleeves... They're going to implement a vast amount of fixes last minute, I don't know why... But I think that's what going to happen.
@@SirPhteven feels like that's what blizz is hearing up for, yearly classic releases. I'd like if at some point we were forced to start again, fingers crossed sod maybe goes down that path

Yeah, Bliz is doing a a wonderful job of making Cata as awkward and noncommunicative as possible. You'd think they could put more than the bare minimum of effort into it - even a single person posting a bug list or weekly update would go a long way. It's pretty terrible customer service.
