A good 70 years ago I bought a 4d (that’s old pence) double bladed swivel potato peeler on Barnsley market. A miracle, rather like the transformation that has made the whole place unrecognisable! Never sure about current architectural trends that annihilate identity, but it is comforting to get an impression of urban optimism. Remembering the era of George Robledo, Skinner Normanton, Gordon Pallister, my weekend humour still depends to some extent on how the Reds do! As now a lively 87 year old I so cherish those early years, despite then coughing soot and grime, spent, for example, roaming the Hull and Barnsley and early trysts at the Ritz! Accents are our proud identifiers. My childhood elderly neighbour’s invariable greeting: “Ows tha gooin on sireee, reight” is ingrained in my soul! At this distance in time, your video only reinforces the privilege I had to have spent my early years in such a community.
My adopted home for the last 14 years and I wouldn't live anywhere else. Still the friendliest place I have ever lived. Barnsley went through some rough times in the 80s/90's after the miners strike and deserves it's regeneration! We're all Tarn !
Danny lad, you are fast becoming a great ambassador fo' Tarn. You just ooze chirpiness and a radiant happiness that makes my viewing along with, i suspect many others, very warming. Keep up the great work both of you. Love the channel 👍
@@daryljackson3430I agree, they have moved Marks and Spencer’s from town centre down Harbrough Hills ,but my Dad gets bus into town as a few pints ,and he used to call and get something for his tea from marks, he can’t now because he can’t drive now ,it’s just aimed now at pubs not shopping
The town is great, with the recent news the council have taken over ownership of Oakwell and the new 13m iconic bridge linking the town the future events what will be organised at the football ground will make it a super town to host music and sporting events.
Wonderful channel btw had to subscribe, carnt believe I've only just come across you guys, Anyway back in my day the nightclub was called The Japanese Whispers... erm I think it was anyway ;)))
I’m a Darfield lass, & can remember bus fares on Tracky buses were 2p!! 😂 Nightclubs were Rebecca’s near bingo hall & Japanese Whispers on Regent St 😊 Tarn’s changed so much now, no mushroom to meet ya mates under 😂 No Dolly’s off bus to meet too! 🤣
Sophie's accent isn't a traditional Yorkshire accent. She using the recent mutation where people don't pronounce the letter T in words. It's horrible. The letter T is always pronounced in a proper Yorkshire accent.
Ho my god watching this brought back memories when I was a kid.from Brampton mi sen.Can you remember when they use to have MacDonalds on corner in middle of Barnsley. They was times catching bus to Barnsley going up to metro dome for day hot chocolate out of vending machine for 10p and a bag of salt and viniger french fries use to take a fiver out and come home with chnage.İ used to go heaven and hell.We went round Rotherham a lot aswel for pop and crisp night everything has shut down there nar.oh yeah best chippy going in Barnsley beef dripping aswel remember seating over road were you used to plonk ya sen on
