Lord shiva is the source of martial art. Lord shiva trained lord parshuram and his son kartekiya. Kartikeya taught this art to rishi agastya (founder of tamil language). The art learned by lord parshuram is known as 'kalaripayytu' and the art learned by rishi agystya is known as 'silambam'. Today animal form of kung fu in Tamilnadu is known as vermi kalai. Later this art went with bodhidharma to china and rest is history.
