      Why godless alone people are obsessed with God?? and talk about him more then a believer? Well for many reason.... 1) About that BS called atheism there is not much things to say, no value, no sacred things and and it leads to nothing. 2 And then because they know they are so many godless alone people that will run to kiss their ass... 3 they do that so this cult can be alive, otherwise is destined to vanish, exactly from the nothing it comes... because is nothing but a cult that has nothing to offer to us and neither to the godless alone people who belonged to 4 And finally this cult will be vanished without those videos and those godless alone people will be just alone.

    I can't hear about the Sabine women without thinking of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." For those unfamiliar with this musical, 7 brothers live in the mountains. The oldest one tricks a woman into marrying him, then the other 6 kidnap girls to be their wives. At one point the brothers sing a song about the Sabine (pronounced Sobbin) women.
    Change of topic: the outright lies that biblical apologists tell about the people who lived near the ancient hebrews is awful. Even if all the crap they say is true, it still wouldn't excuse the alleged actions of "god's people." And that preacher was essentially saying it is ok to kill lgbtqia+ people. Wow.

    In order to convince believers that it was indeed a loving action the more modern Roman apologists would point out that the women would otherwise live in poverty and sickness, had they not been given a home and children in the Roman empire.
    "Isn't this better? Isn't this your natural state?" - Loki, in The Avengers, just before an old man points out that fascism is of all times and that it has always failed because it misses the core of our humanity: cooperation works. Empathy is sustainable, and subjugation has been proven not to be sustainable because you can't eradicate empathy.
    Or in other words, religion is intrinsically supremacist and fascist, but more to their own than to others. Most religions don't seek to dominate outsiders anymore, but they still do so with believers of their own religions, giving supreme power to whoever is believed to interpret the god's will and submitting to the interpreter, for they have more power over the lives of believers in the community than all the gods combined have
    Fail to appease the leader and your life will be miserable, that's the promise of the fascist and one echoed by the apologists.
    And all of it is born out of mistrust and the expectation that if people are free, they will drop their thin layer of civilization and create a chaotic, lawless, and barbaric society, like we see in all secular countries, obviously.
    Hm? In their freedom they created a democracy and they increased their well being and happiness? Oh... yeah, did I mention that fascism is fragile and dysfunctional because our nature is actually social and cooperative and not barbaric and selfish? The mistrust is pure projection of some fearful people who fear losing power more than anything.
    So now you know why apologetics isn't just a weak projection of a weak mind, but intrinsically fascist, and unable to fathom why it always inevitably fails. It can't leave room to understand that we are all better than their projections, because that would prove it is the weaker position, and the whole point is to pretend it's the stronger position and that might makes right.

    A few days ago I had a Christian lecture me online about how the Bible didn’t allow chattel slavery or rape. When I quoted Leviticus and that passage from Numbers, she insisted I was taking it out of context without explaining what the proper context was.
    She also cited one verse from Exodus about how people would be punished if they killed their slaves, yet ignored the next verse that was part of the same sentence which said there was no punishment if the slave didn’t die from being beaten because they’re property. But yeah, I’m the one who took it out of context.

      You did take it out of context. If you read the immediately previous verse, you will see that the punishment for harming a free Israelite in the same way is limited to restitution for lost wages. So the slave, who earns no wages, also gets no restitution.
      In Biblical slavery, the master owns only the proceeds of the slave's work. He does not own the slave's body.

    • @DoctorBiobrain
      @DoctorBiobrain ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@fluffysheap First off, I didn’t take anything out of context. She was the one who cited Hebrews 21:20. All I did was say the second part of the sentence that proved her wrong.
      Moreover, you got the context wrong. Hebrews 21:18-19 are about two men fighting, while the verses I was referring to are about a man beating his slave. How are those the same things? It also says you have to pay the free man’s medical expenses but doesn’t say that about slaves. And it specifically says the slave is their property. Where do you get the idea that they don’t own their body?
      And this is only about Hebrew slaves. Leviticus makes it clear that Israelite slaves are different than non-Israelite slaves. Leviticus 25:45-46 says non-Israelite slaves are permanent slaves that are inherited as property.

    When I was a Christian I took it on faith to believe a lot of things I didn't understand in the Bible. I'm glad this was not one of them. It never made any sense to me how all the horrific acts in the old testament could be justified. Now that I'm out of the religion I see it for what it is. Religion is the tool that allows good people to do terrible things. After all if morality is dictated by God then genocide is ok because God said so.

    It's actually quite a hard challenge to pick the most horrific story from the OT. The rape of those women is right up there, and of course multiple genocides including the global flood, but don't forget the other immoral stories such as setting bears to tear 42 children to pieces, killing the first born of Egypt, butchering the followers of Baal for being wrong, stoning an old man to death for collecting sticks, killing the guy who didn't want to impregnate his brother's widow, killing the guy who tried to stop the Ark from falling, hardening Pharoh's heart so that he would refuse to let people go and result in the deaths of thousands, butchering the Israelites who worshipped the golden calf... The failure to reconcile the war god of the OT to the hippy god of the NT was one thing that really left me thinking these two works are incoherent.

    Second, the thing about the Bible stories you mentioned is that someone wrote these stories well after the supposed events as part of history. And they had such confidence in the righteousness of the action that they didn't even clean it up. And later editors decided that it read just fine. No problem, we're the good guys. They said this in the specific context of a discussion around the modern attempt at genocide against trans people here in America. They gave the caveat that they didn't think he had given that order, but were VERY clear that it would have been their moral obligation and a good thing if the order indeed came from God.

      That’s no written in the Bible but surely you can read between the lines. Or do you actually think an orphaned teenage girl would be willing to marry an enemy soldier after only a month? Not that women of he time had any choice regarding marriage.

    6:48 incidentally the act of kidnapping young girls and taking them as wives is also one of the many traditions in Africa, my mother told me that when she was a young girl one of her friends had that happen to her and my mom and her other friends went to tell the parents of their kidnapped friend, they were shocked to find out that they knew and they let it happen. The tradition is no longer practiced thankfully.

      It's still practised in central Asia sadly, the moms and sisters of the kidnappers would convince them by shouting at them for an hour to marry thier son. Today its done when the partners agree to marry eachother before doing the tradition but they do it when the women have no idea when it's going to happen and can never back to thier old life. Its messed up but for them it's tradition is how they try to justify it.

      @@TheMilitantMazdakite I would certainly hope that not all Christians believe or follow everything in the bible. The world is already sufficiently messed up as it is now.
      But paradoxically, theirin lies both their salvation and demise.
      On one hand, by not following the bible completely, they are free to rise above the questionable morality written in it.
      And on the other hand, it enables them to pick and choose the parts they happen to agree with ... and end up with the most attrocious world view possible ... and be fully confident in it because "it's biblical".
      This is because every moral proclamation in the bible is not unique to it. But every unique poclamation in it, is not moral.
      Combine this with divine command theory and an absolute religious convinction and you have the perfect recipe for disaster ... as evidenced all over the world.

    The truly horrifying part is that while the events decribed in the Bible almost certainly didn't happen you can bet that something similar did in order to inspire such stories.

  • @RojirigoD
    @RojirigoD ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I recently saw Inspiring Philosophy adding a new interpretation to Numbers 31. IP says that several Christian scholars know that this is really not an order from God but from Moses acting alone, adding details to God's orders. That God ordered only to declare war on the Midianites but Moses disobeyed and added the massacre and kidnappings.
    I mean, the apology continues, but now when the Bible says "God commands" or "God said" another type of apology is to reexamine the facts under the filter of the examiner's morality and if you don't like what it says, then they are not God's orders. but either Moses or another guilty biblical character mentioned. But it's not that the Bible is wrong, it's that only one part is what God said and another part is describing human orders or additions...
    This is supposed to be so because in Deuteronomy 20 God gives the principles of not doing that, and since the Bible neither God obviously has no contradictions... it is obvious that Moses added bad things to God's orders...

    • @RojirigoD
      @RojirigoD ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In a new type of cherry picking, when I like something it's what God says and when I don't then the Bible is only describing what the person says, not necessarily God...
      Another could have done it the other way around for those who prefer to justify massacres and kidnappings, they could say that in Deuteronomy 20 when God says that this is not to be done they are added by Moses and that in numbers 31 it is what God really wants, or well, there are reinterpretations and rationalizations to give coherence to the contradictions. It's just choosing the one that causes less internal moral conflicts...

      A Tale Told By Lot - The Victim - 2 Angels showed up. Lot saved them from being raped. Mrs. Lot escaped the town, but died by becoming Salt. Lot was raped by Daughter #1 on one night and raped again by Daughter #2 on another night. These are the tragedies that Lot suffered during the walk from the next town over. Makes as much sense as anything else presented as an example of Christian morality and justification for having Christians write laws that control the actions of everyone.

      Is that impossible?
      No.
      Is it believable?
      Why would anyone take lot's word for it?
      He was the most moral man in a town destroyed for being "too immoral" according to the Gods who saved Lot as their pillar of morality (as opposed to Mrs. Lot, who was made a pillar of Salt as an example of the punishment for reacting to a loud explosion behind them - reflexes are sin!)
      These are the same Gods that hardened the heart of Pharaoh, to justify killing Pharaoh's first born and all of the other first born children in the land.
      Maybe Lot is being set up as the dupe. Maybe the fiancees both impregnated the daughters and mysteriously disappeared. Maybe Lot slept through the nights and did not engage in sexual activities with his daughters. Maybe the Bible really makes sense./sarcasm

    Having lost a daughter to the self-destructive behavior caused by struggling to live with the resulting PTSD due to rape this story in the Bible is especially disturbing. How these idiots can justify this horrific “God” is beyond me. If I hadn’t quit believing in “God” before my daughter’s death I would hate him now. Everyone should know the story of Daisy Coleman and her mother. Like Daisy’s mother I have attempted suicide but, my husband found me so I didn’t succeed. I am honest and open about this in the hope of someone else learning about the far reaching consequences of rape, there is more than one victim - it affects the entire family. For that reason alone the Bible needs to be relegated to the garbage heap because it is garbage.

Then the rapist can be sure any future children conceived by his act of rape of the woman or little girl is his own rape baby.
