How many of you grew up eating Arroz con Leche? If you did, I'm curious, did you have it as a dessert or as a hot breakfast cereal? Let me know in the comments.
We ate it for any and every meal. Sometimes hot and sometimes cold, depending on the time of year and depending on if we had the patience to wait for it to heat up. 😂
One of my favorites. My Mom always made it with raisins. My grandkids don't like raisins so I now make it without them. We have even had arroz con leche for dinner. Yummy!
My grandma made for a dessert for me and my brother and my mom did to i miss them all there in heaven with my dad 😢thankyou so much for cooking this love you God blessing❤😊
THANK YOU! I'm New Mexican and I've seen so many recipes that have the sweet and condensed milk and that's not the style/flavor I am accustomed to. I'm just so grateful for your share and your stories of how you grew up here❣️👏💯🎉
As a kid my best friends family made arroz con leche in a big pot. I just remember the smell and looking in the pot with the cinnamon sticks. I will definitely try this recipe
Gracias for honoring your mami in your narrative. I never miss an opportunity to honor my parents and I love it when others do. Love your recipe. Thank you. My abuela made it with evaporated milk but other than that same.
Thank you, Marcy! There must be a thousand ways to make this recipe but you were my missing link in re-creating my grandma's version. I just had to use a can of evaporated milk and the rest of the measurement I used whole milk. I also added an egg yolk at the time of adding milk. I never temper-lazy or genius? I beat the egg white into a froth and poured on top of the almost boiling arroz pudding, in a bowl. Lid up and wait 15min for the top to cook through. I miss my gramma so much, so this means the world to me. Thank you soo much.
I grew up eating this. Plus, when my husband had to go out of town for work I would fix this for dinner for our 5 kids. Toast on the side and everyone was happy.
Yes, I grew up eating a lot of it….my Mom too would make it as dessert and we all loved it. There were 9 siblings in our family. I learned how to make it but I did not make it consistently so now I forgot how to make it. And yes my Mom would some times include bay leaf and definitely use a can of carnation milk, it was so yummy. You’re video really helped me and first chance I get I will make it again, thank you!
Thank you for sharing this, my late Mother used to make this for my dad and siblings - I've always wanted to make this, now that you've shown me how I am for sure going to give it a try!
I'm sorry your mother is no longer with you. I hope making this brings back sweet memories of her, and that you enjoy it enough to continue making it in her honor.❤
Thank you so much! And it for sure will bring back sweet memories of her, so thank you for making it possible - without your awesome recipes, I couldn't do it! My Dad loves the green hatch new Mexico pork stew Chile I started making after watching your recipe on that! Thank you thank you keep up the stellar videos 🙏
Thanks for this recipe, been searching for this for awhile. my mom use to make this for us kids when we were younger, with raisins. It was a great treat.
Hi Marcy, I thought of looking up your recipe for sweet rice to see if yours was different . But you made it the same way as my mom showed me how to make it. It was the same thing and delicious! So watching you make yours I know mine is perfect too. Thanks 😋
I love this recipe. I’m gonna have to try it because I like that it’s easy and sounds really good. Love the bond you have with your mom , mine was the same ! Thanks for the great video ☺️☺️
Hola Marcy, soy una norteña (Las Vegas/SF area) and a lot of your recipes are quite different from what I grew up with, however, *this* looks exactly like how my grandma used to make her rice pudding. I've tried to replicate it for years, and online recipes never helped bc they always had too many ingredients that I know she never used and store bought versions could never compare. I cannot wait to try making this version. 😊 Thank you!!
I grew up in southern New Mexico, so my cooking is a blend of influences...from Mexican, to Spanish, to even Native American. It's fascinating how a foods can change from region to region. This arroz con leche is a simple recipe, but it's really good. Hope it's close to your grandma's version.
@@marcyinspired1442 that's exactly how I explain to non-native NMs - that the further south you go in the state, the more Mexican influence you'll see in foods. It all tastes good to me because I can appreciate and anticipate the regional differences. Thank you for sharing your recipes!
Love your bowls!! I've been binge watching rice pudding recipes and I like that your doesn't have the different milks and other ingredients!! Best day 🌶️🌮🥑
My mom made hers pretty much the way you did except, she used evaporated milk. She would make a big pot of it for breakfast and refrigerated what was left. We would have the cold arroz con leche for dessert. We loved it hot or cold.😊
Hi Marcy, I've been looking for a sweet rice recipe and this sounds and looks like my Daddy and Mama's recipe. So glad I found your channel. Thank you! PS my Mama and Daddy use to make a dish with peas. It was just peas and a look like a rue but it was so good n sweet. Would you by chance know the recipe? If so can you please share it with me. Thank you in advance Blessings always 🙏💜🤗
Did I miss the link to your mother in laws rice pudding recipe? My mom used to make arroz con leche for breakfast but she did use evaporated milk, maybe because it keeps longer, and raisins. I used to make it for my now grown children and flown children and now still make it for my husband and myself during winter. I remember when it was really cold in winter, my mom would bring it to our beds and we would eat in bed.
It’s 2:22am lol it’s that time of the month I was thinking of my mom and thought of this and I just wish I knew then to learn and engage in her cooking instead of be spoiled and let her feed me 😭 making this now
The story about your sisters and your mom choked me up. Real life. Very sweet.

I enjoyed the video you made with your mom. She is a great woman. 💯
Awe. Thank you. My Mom is so precious to me.
I love to use Jasmine rice, no salt and the same ingredients. Except i use 1 c rice & 2-1/4 water.
I love this video. It's so relaxed and just feels genuine most recipe videos where it feels so commercialized

I worked with the Extension Service for 25 years in Indiana.
This is the recipe I was looking for, i don’t buy evaporated milk, and I’m not a big fan of sweeten condensed milk. Thank You 😊

So true about it being good hot or cold. Love that we share similar upbringing.

I always buy those little cups of it so I can have a snack of it at work, but homemade is always better!!
I know exactly which ones you mean. I always see them, but I’ve never bought them. Are they good?
@@marcyinspired1442 yeah, the Senor Rico brand (Costco) is good! At home I put extra cinnamon!

Because I am lactose intolerant, I will try using with Almond milk. I will let you know how this comes out! 😊
Please do let me know. I'm guessing almond milk will work just fine, but it would be good to know for sure in case someone asks me in the future.

What is the difference between recipes that use evaporated milk and condensed milk?? VS just milk?
Lol. That's how I add vanilla.😂❤
Ha! Love it. I felt like I kept embarrassing myself over and over again with this video, but that's how I really cook when there's no camera.
I loved it.
I like it runny wife likes it thick , if its thick I will not eat it .
