A producer can do everything inside DAW if he wanted to. Just ask yourself what title is on the credits when royalties are being payed out.

If you’re just sequencing/arranging a loop and throwing drums and an 808 on top, that’s still making music. Producers that have an ear and hire musicians and guide them are still making the loop. The musicians don’t have the vision and the same taste. That’s the importance of a producer.

I will never forget.. I was an instructor at a small college for audio engineering and music production and this one student was getting all this clout from some of the teachers and local artists and I was happy for the kid for sure, good dude and works hard. However… one day I was sitting in while he was cooking up a beat and he was using loops… for EVERYTHING. This man didn’t even program the drum pattern, he wasn’t tweaking anything outside of some EQ and compression… Now, I’m not hating but come on man… you can’t call yourself a beat maker MUCH LESS a producer if your entire beat is made with pre-made loops. Period. Bro, I was thinking the whole time that this kid was better than me (I was 23 at the time) only to find out I have probably forgotten more about producing music than this kid knew entirely. Splice is a fantastic tool but it can give beginners way too much confidence. What happens when that kid is in a situation where he has a client but the internet is out? I make pretty good instrumentals on par with industry music, I'm 36, went to art schools from middle through highschool and can tell you it takes years to get to this point. FL studio was a journey from plugins, a wide range of vsts and then mixing and mastering is a whole other beast to tame. I hate to hear that so many people are just faking it now.
I grew up with sizzle cuzzin literally one of the guys to me but anyway sizzle was making his own beats when we was in high-school....it's so funny cause bruh really legendary before the fame
I'd say it still takes a skill to put these loops/samples together in a way that makes a good song And as for one-shots, anything royalty-free can be used by producers and that's the point of them existing

Basically every hit out of LA, Nashville, and NYC used session musicians who got paid per session, and lived regular middle class lives. Everyone from Johnny Cash to Frank Sinatra used them, and you can still make a pretty damned good living in Nashville if you can sight read, hell a lot of the guitars, drums, bass, strings etc you hear on modern songs out of Nashville were played by college music students trying to make rent, and maybe pay their phone bill. Hell I’ve worked as a session guy on rappers stuff, and some of them have been kind enough to give credit, some just paid for the couple hours it took, and both are fine. What I eat doesn’t have to be lobster, steak, and crab legs. Sometimes just feeding my family, and not having to turn the wrenches so hard that I bust my knuckles is enough. The best producers I know, curate the best musicians, and feed off of them for inspiration, and in return they get us anytime they need us, and we all have a good time, and we all eat without needing to beg some asshole behind a cheap desk in a $20 shirt for a 50 cent raise. It’s a grind, but at least it’s a fun one.
I got a real modest setup. Just an electric guitar, a bass, and a Komplete control 49 key midi. I make every single sound that’s in my music and I like that. But I also appreciate somebody who could chop a soul record up because I’m just not good at it lol

I make pretty good instrumentals on par with industry music, I'm 36, went to art schools from middle through highschool and can tell you it takes years to get to this point. FL studio was a journey from plugins, a wide range of vsts and then mixing and mastering is a whole other beast to tame. I hate to hear that so many people are just faking it now.

He just described the entirety of the music industry. How do you think any of those songs from the beginning to the computerization of music got made? Basically every hit out of LA, Nashville, and NYC used session musicians who got paid per session, and lived regular middle class lives. Everyone from Johnny Cash to Frank Sinatra used them, and you can still make a pretty damned good living in Nashville if you can sight read, hell a lot of the guitars, drums, bass, strings etc you hear on modern songs out of Nashville were played by college music students trying to make rent, and maybe pay their phone bill.
Hell I’ve worked as a session guy on rappers stuff, and some of them have been kind enough to give credit, some just paid for the couple hours it took, and both are fine. What I eat doesn’t have to be lobster, steak, and crab legs. Sometimes just feeding my family, and not having to turn the wrenches so hard that I bust my knuckles is enough. The best producers I know, curate the best musicians, and feed off of them for inspiration, and in return they get us anytime they need us, and we all have a good time, and we all eat without needing to beg some asshole behind a cheap desk in a $20 shirt for a 50 cent raise. It’s a grind, but at least it’s a fun one.
I got a real modest setup. Just an electric guitar, a bass, and a Komplete control 49 key midi. I make every single sound that’s in my music and I like that. But I also appreciate somebody who could chop a soul record up because I’m just not good at it lol
