Palm Sunday 1965 is THE weather event that shaped my life. I will never forget how the sky looked that night. And every spring, when the day dawns unseasonably warm, I get nervous. Because that is how Palm Sunday 1965 started out. If you lived through it, you understand.
Now it should become clear WHY storm chasers are so very important. Having a visual eye on the storms as the tornado begins to develop, describing it to the meteorologists.
Yes, it is possible for two or more already formed tornadoes to combine. Actually, many larger tornadoes aren't actually single ones at all but rather are multiple vortices that eventually merge together to form the main bulk of a very large, wedge-shaped vortex. This is why you'll sometimes see sub vortices hurtling around the main one and these can be pretty big and just as powerful as the main vortex. I say "see" but you don't always see them all the time as they can be obscured by the main funnel.
My father was in high school the year this happened. The tornado that hit near Grand Rapids, Michigan left a lot of damage. I remember my dad telling me about the sky being an ugly green color. He and his family went down to the basement for a couple of hours.
I don't remember the green sky, what I remember is a sickly mud yellow color. We lived on the west side of Kalamazoo. I was about 9 years old. The clouds overhead were boiling and black. At one point my father made us all go in the basement because he said a funnel cloud was passing overhead and the trees were bending over. I learned many years later the mud yellow color was from dust kicked up from tornadoes in Iowa and Wisconsin.
At 8:00 when you said you see both funnels at once -- possibly, but they were 7 or 8 miles apart at that point. (one of the benefits of having land surveyed into 1 mile squares, it's easy to figure out distances from aerial photos)
Yes, tornadoes have combined before, have a look at the footage of the Heston-Goessel twin F5 tornadoes, where the dying Heston tornado combines with the new Goessel tornado.
there are cases of tornadoes merging. for a crazy example the end stage of the f5 that went through hesston kansas in 1990 merged with a newly developing tornado causing it to rapidly strengthen and also reach f5 status.
There is some docuemnted cases of tornadoes combining, one particular one involved an f5 that impacted Hesston Kansas on March 13th, 1990, when this tornado began to rope out after destroying north Hesston Kansas, a new large tornado would touch down and the old hesston f5 would begin roping out and feed the largeer Gossel tornado making it even more powerful than it originally was, before both vortexes collided, this new tornado would be even more powerful than the Hesston F5 and would hit Gossel Kansas causing 1 fatality, thankful it tracked through mostly rural areas and caused minimal destruction
It seems this year... EVERY time it rains, it turns into a deadly situation... wind, hail, flooding tornadoes, now derecho. Im 60 yrs old, born and lived in Tornado alley my whole life, and I have never heard of that term before!?!?
Derechos have happened before, they’re just an uncommon weather phenomenon. In 2020 I believe Iowa got struck by a particularly powerful one that was the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane. All in all though, it definitely does seem like each time we get even the slightest bit of rain, it turns into severe weather
We definitely had cameras back then, but they were not as convenient to use. Parents used super 8mm moving cameras. They were large and they were quirky, often without sound. Film had to be sent away to be developed. Anyway, unless you were loaded and ready to go, you probably wouldn’t get much.
It's concerning to see some of the actions taken by the New Zealand Family channel. While they react to other people's videos on TH-cam, they issue copyright strikes against those who react to their content, risking the deletion of channels like The Beasleys, The Graham Family, and Lav Luka. This behavior seems hypocritical and unfair. Additionally, they reportedly delete any critical comments and ban users who speak out, which raises further concerns. Given these actions, it might be worth reconsidering your support for their channel.
I've been reporting every reaction they (NZ Family) upload. New & old. Just to see how they feel on their hypocrisy. ---------------------------------------- But yes, if I were Luka, I'd outright delete any NZ Family reactions. Just to be on the safe side. To be even more safe, I'd ask any video makers if it's okay to react to their channel. From here, onward. ---------------------------------------- I asked Mr H & Friends, but got no word from them. Unless if they will address it in their next livestream. ---------------------------------------- I do know Lost In The Pond, Beesleys, Fat Electrician, and some others don't mind reactors reacting to their videos. I'd still ask those video makers, to be safe.
Yea, I think I'm gonna have to pull my support for them. That's just a straight up dick move to react to other content, especially like Nic, TFE and then striking everyone else who reacts to them. I guess reporting their videos is the only way to lodge a protest.
so stop watching. Why go on other videos and make comments about it? TH-cam does it all the time and you don't say "Stop watching TH-cam". Why are you so upset?
Yesterday, the town of Greenfield Iowa was hit directly by a violent tornado, at least EF4 strength but potentially even EF5. There are 9 confirmed deaths and multiple homes were slabbed and many others destroyed. Mobile radar indicated winds of 210mph
I imagine a Native American tribe has a legend somewhere bout an absolute monster of a tornado that makes el Reno 2013 look like a joke Ted Fujita knew how strong winds affected structures because while he was a graduate student back in Japan he was tasked with studying the damage to Nagasaki after the atomic bomb was dropped
Well-done video and a typically good reaction by our dear reactor. I hadn't realized that this outbreak was significant in the development of the Fujita Scale. I'm also guessing "denuded" and not what the narrator repeated several times?? I assume the narrator is a real person and not AI. You can tell the narrator is not native to the Michigan/Ohio area since he mispronounced a number of the placenames. My hometown was one of the many majorly impacted by this event.
Please react to the (paramedic force 5 bridge creek and moore, Oklahoma tornado May 3 1999). It's the first responders response to the 1999 moore, Oklahoma F5 tornando. I currently work as an EMT with EMSA in tulsa, Oklahoma. We use this video for training new hires on mass casualty response. The camera crews riding with these ambulance crews were making a Tv show on the day and life of first responders the day moore got hit. Most people have no idea what happen in the aftermath of a tornado. This video is a great watch to understand what it takes to triage a mass casualty incident.
Warning, I'm writing this in the nud;-) (AI is coming for your job) Reed Timmer has been releasing jaw dropping tornado videos today. It is of a cool multi-vortex tornado but what really stands out is how flipping good the videos are, especially the drone footage. In know you can't react to it, but you ought to have a look if you haven't already. I've been having fun wondering about prehistoric storms. I wonder if there were types of storms we have never seen. Like when America, and Europe and others were part of a super-continent, I think much of the interior land was a huge desert. I wonder if there were something like sand hurricans that would make today's sandstorms look like pipsqueaks. Also wonder with a bunch of dry sand blowing around, could there have been strong electrical currents and magnetic fields making shaping the storm. Presumably the oceans were huge too, so maybe freakishly huge hurricanes. I haven't heard any scientific claims about such storms, just sort of wondering what might have been possible.

I grew up in Indiana and every Palm Sunday we had tornadoes . I was 2 and my parents would talk about this for years

That was about the size that took out my aunt's and uncles town of Monticello Indiana
Yes. Two tornadoes can in fact combine into one giant tornado. That has happened before
Tornadoes can happen nearly anywhere, but are most common in the central and southern USA
I remember that storm. I was 9 years old, living in the Toledo burbs. Crazy day.
we just had a likely violent tornado go through greenfield iowa lofting debree to 40000ft which is extremely rare.
As of about a half hour ago there were 14 tornados on the ground in Colorado you have 57 degrees on the other side you have 85 degrees

You have to watch and react to "A Lady Called Camille", about Hurricane Camille hitting the Gulf states and the harrowing aftermath.
@Lav Luka you should do a reaction video of Shipwreck depth Comparison. Or even Naval Legends IJN Yamato or DKM Bismarck or USS Missouri
You need to react to the Greenfield tornado from yesterday
For non Americans, watching these videos on tornados, do you still want to visit America?
