The big thing about Sarah still having her power is that she never needed the 4 corners to get her magic. She’s a natural witch & had magic before she met the girls. Without Sarah, I don’t think they would’ve been able to make anything happen. Sarah always had magic but you’re right, she was able to keep her elevated powers bcuz she wasn’t abusing the “gift”. It was another great reaction guys!!

There’s a deleted scene that shows Nancy strong armed Rochelle and Bonnie into following her. They tried to stop her but she reminded them of their trauma and how she was the one who helped them when they had no one. It really should’ve been left in the movie. Doesn’t excuse what they did, but it explains their switch up better.

The mirror thing was a moment of self reflection, like her inner self judging her actions and refusing to make eye contact with her. But she ends up corrupted by Nancy, they shouldn't have cut the scene where Nancy cruelly explains how she became her group's ringleader. It makes so much more of the movie make sense. Nancy was the only one who wanted power, the others just wanted to be/feel normal.
I also get the impression that when he was with Nancy that she didn't want to based on how personally she took the word "sorry" and how he's pretty consistent about being entitled to women.

I'm super glad you guys watched this movie! Was really looking forward to this reaction, I’ve watched this movie since I was a little girl and was obsessed with it! Bryce was spot on Chris was one of the killers from Scream, he was Billy Loomis. Fun fact the girl who played Sarah actually wore a wig for this movie because in her last project she needed to have a shaved head. Didn’t know til recently! Also too the actress who played Nancy had background knowledge of Wicca and had a lot of play with the movie knowledge of witchcraft. Half of what was shown in the movie was made up, so the viewers wouldn’t actually want to recreate what the movie showed.

I know a lot of people were all about being just like Nancy (I get it) but I was always a little more aware of my surroundings if that was the case. Thank you for reacting! This is one of my fav 90's movies! I relate to Bonnie so much for different reasons, but also Neve is a Queen! Just wanted to point out that the scene with Rochelle looking in the mirror in the showers, her reflection turned away because it was meant to show that she couldn't even look at herself. Plus fun fact, $175,000 in 1996 is worth $332,390.69 today in 2022.

I can remember when this movie came out (1996) I was deep into witchy stuff and The Craft even got a favorable review in The Witches Almanac (an annual book similar to a farmers almanac, with events like the lunar cycles- important in spell work, or information about particular magic ingredients or traditions). The writer of the review said it was refreshing to see the witches not only portray the villain, but the HERO, and for the conflict to be between witches, and not some religious or pious figure vs. witches.

Rochelle's character was originally written as being chubby and made fun of for that, but Rachel True's audition made them re-write it for her. That kinda explains why they try to make it seem like it was mean to get revenge on the racist girl, before it would have been reversing the role of ridiculing someone for not being conventionally attractive. To try to frame the literal racist as sympathetic for going bald... not the best writing imo, iconic movie but... that part, that ain't it.

    • @Ivy94F
      @Ivy94F 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

That’s probably why they showed that character trying to be a better person after all her hair falls out. Because alopecia definitely isn’t enough to make a racist sympathetic. Lol. But this character decides on her own to interpret this trauma as punishment for how she treated Rachel True’s character, and decides to try and correct that. They needed to put that part in to make any case for sympathy for the audience, no matter how feeble it is. It KINDA placated me, but now that you’ve told me this part it makes a lot more sense why it was even there as a plot point.

There's a deleted scene that kind of explains why Bonnie and Rochelle stick with Nancy (it's on youtube, called 'confrontation'). I can see why it was deleted as it lays it on a little thick, it's probably the first time where Nancy is genuinely unbalanced and she guilt-trips Bonnie and Rochelle that she was there for them when no-one else was and now they are going to abandon her for Sarah.

It's kinda wild to see you watching it for the first time at this age cos I've been watching it since I was 7/8, I love seeing a fresh perspective and it was fun to see your heads turn at the magic! It does bum me out the girls didn't reunite as friends because they had spent so much time together and seemed to connect/understand. The lesson certainly isn't about the sisterhood here lol. I love the wood scene where they officiate the coven. "We are the weirdos" is an iconic and well known line. And the last fight between Sarah and Nancy; I love the mirror trick and when she finally calls Manon. Thank yall for watching, very excited for the next!❤‍🔥❤‍🔥

As a teen in the 90s- people were that awful, yes. Considering F*g and G*y were used as casual slang and insults, as common as rolling your eyes.
I used to play "Light as a feather, stiff as a board" with my friends all the time. That and trying to call Bloody Mary in the bathroom. We were baby witches. I'm still Pagan. I was called Satan worshipper a lot, even before I got into witchcraft. Being tormented by bullies- super common. I was targeted a lot. I think that did more to push me toward witchcraft/Pagan stuff than anything else. Being shown "Christian love" has been about the most horrible I've ever been treated across the board. Being Goth and whatnot was extremely inclusive and welcoming. They didn't have fun hair colors back then, so I dyed my hair black.
Nancy's step-dad is the one who died- he was physically and sexually abusive. In the 90s, that could have bought them that condo for like $50k outright, the car would have been about $20k, with the rest left over. Her home life and being tormented by bullies is why she turned to witchcraft in the first place- to get some control of her life.

It's so interesting to see people who grew up in later generations react with astonishment at bullying... e.g., wondering where the gym teacher was. For us in the 90s, bullying was part and parcel of the high school experience. An authority figure would have witnessed it and turned a blind eye.

@@aj32384 Sometimes I forget how casually racist/homophobic/misogynist people were when I was in middle and high school. I think it's a good sign that younger people now are shocked by it. Shows that there's at least been some progress.

@@aj32384not necessarily different from these days, perhaps teachers are More likely to put a stop to it comparatively. But I was in middle school in the mid 2010’s, I’m only 21 by the way, and just as an example one kid was mocked so badly in gym repeatedly that he burst into tears and ran out the building to run home, and the gym teacher joined the bullies in calling the kid a cry baby and laughed. There were many kind hearted teachers who did stop bullying when they saw it though to be fair, but there was an equal number of teachers who simply didn’t care.

@@jaynahoffacker2557I was bullied for being gay in middle and high school in the 2010’s, when I hadn’t even come out but they saw the stereotypical traits I apparently had and went for it. Warranted I didn’t get beat up which I know many older gay people experienced in school, but the sneers and constant picking weren’t great. A lot of kids at my school were actually pretty conservative and bigoted in their mindsets unfortunately. But I have no doubt it’s probably better compared to decades past.

to all… this movie was so real…. actors/actresses had to go through alot…..or get into character, some of them really did. These were the weird kid’s school hated… i think it had a lot of reshaping for the actors/actresses in real life.

Haven't seen this movie before but I got invested in the start of it. Great reaction guys.

Me and my friends were a group of four at the age 11 or something and we were sooo into this movie (in the 90's). Tried our own witchcraft as well, but didn't get any results for some reason :D There was definitely a Nancy on our group as well.

So, this movie came out the year I graduated high school, and I can attest that some people, especially rich popular kids, were super mean and bullying like that during that time. It was miserable being the victim of that kind of treatment because there was nothing that could be done about it back then.
