Honestly as soon as I saw the video I instantly knew it was going to get backlash. I was also a bit shocked. I think it was the combination of it all. The wardrobe, song, lil Kim persona, & an 8 yo doing it. I think there may have been a lapse in judgment but I definitely don’t agree with the comments coming for y’all character.

A lot of people feel a certain way about Envy, especially after his recent controversies. I don't know what they are defending, honestly. To be honest, maybe they should stop sharing their family. The world will be ok if Envy doesn't post his family. Him and Gia say they don't care, but you're making a whole video explaining. Envy has a point to prove what he doesn't understand is that nobody cares.

@shadyzbabii420 Envy and Gia are great parents, but they are also human. They are not perfect. Envy and Gia like to over share their life on social media and the radio. Posting that video was a poor choice, and they received backlash. Usually, when they post their family, they get likes and nice comments, and the backlash is new to them. They should have kept that video to themselves.

There's no need to be defensive. Dressing your daughter as Lil Kim for Halloween is inappropriate.

I don’t doubt YOU & YOUR FAMILY viewed it as innocent but it wasn’t kept between you & your family it was released to the public . To double down is tone deaf , to not be able to see even a ounce of validity in the criticism is telling . Kim is widely identified as a sex symbol , you dressed your child as Kim & had her perform a censored version of a explicit song & are surprised at the reaction .

It’s kind of scary how y’all missing the point on purpose. I love Gia and this is very surprising. Y’all probably should have kept this video in the family. Dance competition, swimming, and sports are very different from a song about sex by a grown woman known for selling sex. It’s just weird. A lapse of judgement. Y’all still amazing parents, we all know that.

I am surprised at the comment they made about swimsuits. I remember some years ago there were comments about her eldest daughter's swimsuits.. I notice all the negative comments were being deleted. So for them to say it is all positive. That is not true. Alot of folks had a problem with the way they portray certain things. The doubling down behaviour they are portraying now is the same behaviour they had when Desus and Mero made fun of them. It is wild and I truly wish the same way they want folks to participate and support their content and initiative.. The same way they should take a step back and respect constructive criticism from the public.

Oh Gia, people looking at it through a negative lens are not sexualizing children 😓 I certainly wasn’t…maybe they are aware of the world we live in.
Think of it like the care you took to make sure Madison lives in a safe neighborhood and building - you took those steps because you know that, even if most people are good, there are some who aren’t. The internet is kind of like that too. I’m surprised no one said that to you two before you posted it…Most people online are there for the right reasons, but unfortunately, there are also people out there who could misuse photos of kids in ways we might not even think about.
Law enforcement and child safety organizations have found that even innocent photos, like kids in bathing suits, sometimes end up on sketchy sites or are used in ways that violate their privacy. These people might take images from public accounts and repost or misuse them. It’s really unfair and upsetting, but it happens.
I’m not saying this to scare you, but just as an extra layer of protection for your beautiful children, the same way you’d lock the door to her room or make sure she’s in a safe environment…It’s sad that we even have to think about this, but just being aware of it helps us keep them safe.
Maybe if you still want to share those moments, you could use private albums or apps that only close friends and family can see.
Just thought I’d share, knowing how much you love and protect your kids.

I was shocked by the video because on a previous Episode of the Casey crew, Envy expressed he was uncomfortable bringing his daughter into the dance studio. He also said it was because of how they are dressed, it's just not a comfortable situation for him. Envy and Gia had a whole disagreement about it. So my initial thought was if that's the case how are you comfortable with your daughter portraying lil Kim.

WE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM! WE SEE THE PERSON SHE WAS PORTRAYING, which is the whole idea of the costume. Y'all are missing the point! She portrayed a hypersexualized person. Most people-Lil Kim included- do not let their kids listen to that type of music! As a certified, highly qualified teacher please know that putting her hands over her mouth means nothing!

  • @stachafi3rc3
    @stachafi3rc3 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

I was surprised at the choice of character portrayed only because Kim was so hyper sexual. I think the viewers are less sexualizing your daughter themselves but almost feel forced to do so because she is embodying a woman that was overly sexualized. I literally told my boyfriend, I do not want to look at an 8 year old and think of Lil Kim. Older daughter, fine it was just something I think that felt conflicting enjoying the video but seeing such a young girl portraying her. But no one should be disrespectful vocalizing that.
This comment comes from someone who does not celebrate Halloween in any capacity and does not have a daughter who dresses inappropriately. There are some of us who just genuinely felt it inappropriate.

To double down and deflect is kinda crazy. You don’t have to necessarily be looking through a negative lens to think it was inappropriate. A competition vs Lil Kim is not the same thing. Like at all. It’s insane to me that they don’t get it. It’s Halloween. Yes Lil Kim is an icon, known for provocative lyrics. But an 8yo dressing as her for Halloween is crazy to me. And by their logic, it’s just a costume. Would they put her in the slutty school girl outfit? No. I’m not putting my kid in a position to let anyone look at her crazy. Especially online. There are too many pervs.

They likely have no frame of reference (I would understand if they wanted to be Cardi or Latto) Seems like a clearly misguided choice on the part of their parents. Do what you want to do. Dress them how you want. Be it Halloween or otherwise. Also, sports competitions aren’t the same. I mean I still think it’s very easy to see why it’s also inappropriate. That original video and artist is meant to be sexy. And yes it’s a bathing suit but I think everything TOGETHER is what made it on the edge of too much. People who know yall know you wouldn’t purposely do something you found inappropriate with children. But as parents I think the knowledge that people are sharing this video and watching it and getting off to it or have some perverse satisfaction would have been enough for me….

It's concerning to see that only positive comments are being liked by the content creators. Constructive criticism is a valuable tool for growth. If you're seeking feedback from others, it's important to be open to diverse perspectives, including criticism. This isn't the first time this behavior has been observed, particularly in response to feedback about the Desus and Mero situation.
While it's understandable that you may have strong feelings about certain topics, it's important to maintain a level of professionalism and be receptive to different viewpoints. The public's concern about the over-sexualized song for a child(ren) highlights the need for careful consideration of content, especially when it involves young audiences. I am disappointed on your portrayal in this episode.

Im not questioning your parenting, but i was very shocked especially with Gia bc she comes off staunch. I didnt expect this. When sdot popped the original bathing suit photo, i admit it didnt look bad, but if you are at the beach/pool it is appropriate.you dress for the occasion. like you wouldnt wear something skimpy to a 5 star restaurant, and you wouldn't wear a ball gown to the beach. Kudos to them for loving their craft and mastering it, but better song choices could’ve been selected. I can’t think of a lil Kim song that is appropriate, but certainly Aaliyah, Try Again, possibly could’ve had the same visual nostalgia. To accuse adults who are absolutely Not sexualizing kids, of sexualizing kids , when you’re literally recreating a video with a sexual nature and lyrics is insane.

At first when I heard the hype, I hadn't seen anything (Instagram sucks with my feed) but once I saw it, I knew why you guys got that backlash. It's not the fact that she was just dressed
as Lil Kim, it's the fact that you had your underage daughter lip syncing to lyrics that are not appropriate for someone her age even with her covering her mouth.
Actually, what made it much worse was that the covering of the mouth came from you so you knew the lyrics were inappropriate.
Let's just keep it a buck and say you guys made a bad decision and leave it as is. I,however, don't agree with folks coming for your character; it was just a lapse in judgement

I believe that kids should be kids until they are not. Lil Kim’s whole persona was for adults. Her music, her look, etc. was adult content. I didn’t think it was appropriate but in no way do I think that reflects badly on them as parents because I know they are amazing.
Furthermore, I think my instincts as a father is to protect my daughters from other people’s evil. It’s a sick world we live in unfortunately and while we may think it’s just innocent fun, I have to think how others may perceive it in order to keep them safe.

Since you chose to address it, It was uncomfortable for me so I clicked off of crush on you in less than a minute. Who cares. After that I chose not to click on one in a million when I saw a preview of the older friend or family member dancing with your daughter. Again who cares.
Like you said, you can get millions of positive comments for years then maybe a few negative at some point. I'm one who always ❤️ your Instagram uploads when I see them.
The discomfort is not from personal trauma or projection. Just awkward bc the actual videos had mature words & themes.
    To each their own.
Youguys are clearly a loving and talented family & won't let comments from viewers stop your flow.

It’s ok if you don’t agree, no one thinks you guys are bad parents but to act like you don’t understand why people would think that was a little too grown for an 8 year old come on…also remember once you put something on social media you invite others to give their opinion. That being said we still love to see your family 😍😍

@ I honestly believe it doesn’t bother her. She’s an extremely strong woman who thinks independently of other’s opinions. However, she may not want the hate displayed on her page to possibly affect other readers in the comments in a negative way. And she’s very fair when it comes to blocking people and or deleting comments. If one shares a different opinion than hers, she’s totally here for it. However, if something is rooted in hate with no other intention but to spread hate, it should be taken down. By her, by TH-cam, or anyone else for that matter. Just food for thought ❤️

@@DutchessMontgomery I believe anyone who disagrees with her she sees as a problem, even her husband who doesn't seem to be allowed to have his own independent thought. Im not a mean person nor was my dislike on her Instagram post. Someone doesn't spend almost an hour explaining something to ppl if it "didn't bother them". Being a strong woman doesn't mean you are void of feelings and can't be bothered by something.

Nothing came across as “bothered” to me. Seems like you’re bothered by her unbothered-ness lol

I can honestly say when I first saw the video I was hyped! And I reposted it on my IG story because this was one of my fave videos back in the day… I am naturally protective over children because of the world, so I got nervous over the backlash I saw coming… Also I was nervous over the backlash and judgment over my bff Gia (in my head) lol. I do believe this was done in fun and creativity. Most will not see past the sexuality of “lil Kim”, so the bathing suit didn’t appear as “cute” as it did on vacation. Yes many people may not be comfortable but I’m happy it was addressed. Gia you are always calm collected and graceful regardless of anything and I’m sure that ruffles more feathers. Your children are the sweetest I don’t believe they will wake up different after one Halloween production.

However, given the unfortunate reality of the world we live in, where there are real dangers for children, I take extra care to protect my kids. For that reason, I don’t allow my daughter to wear crop tops or short shorts. While I understand that many people wear bathing suits at the beach, I personally feel that children should be dressed appropriately for their age and stick to activities that are suited for them. To each their own but I’m respectfully giving my point of view.

The comparison between white and black is not my favorite. Yes, in our community, Black kids have been oversexualized because of others (slavery). I do agree that the ideology needs to be stripped.

    • @dallen8605
      @dallen8605 หลายเดือนก่อน

@cburston3653 also bc of things like the rap industry which is being "uncovered" in real time before our very eyes. It's nearly the definition of misogyny, oversexualization & demonization of black girls and women. It can only be compared to the violence & greed that alot of it represents.
Yes slavery did a number. I wonder at any point are we going to collectively stand up & scream enough is enough.
And yes of course non black people do what they do....on anneven broader scale. They also get criticized sometimes with constructive & non constructive criticism & consequence.
I think it's harder for black people to swallow it bc there are so few that "make it" so we want to try to keep them lifted no matter what.
I truly enjoy the Casey Crew and support their podcast, social media, interviews and book.

I totally agree with one thing Gia said, we like to pick and choose when we will follow what’s considered “right”. Spiritually, we shouldn’t be celebrating Halloween at all! Let alone the billions of other Halloween costume choices that are way worse than Lil Kim. Who was an artist! Also, God doesn’t measure sin. So I guess it’s correct for her to feel “picked on” so to speak. Also, I have always side eyed all people when they choose certain bathing suit styles for children. Another also, I always give a side eye for all people who choose to post their children online in a bathing suit. Now to say my opinion on another persons family especially child, is a whole different topic. Ever since the internet, people think they can give all type of unsolicited advice these days 😅 just scroll and think it in your head and keep it moving. Geesh!

@maryannanderson5964 With respect, so many people admire, respect & enjoy what this couple chooses to share. This was a rare time that I was uncomfortable. It's zero to do with being jealous or projecting any twisted thoughts. But I'm also one that when I see their fabulous family photos, I wince a tiny bit when I see the little ones in their swimsuits. Again not bc of me but bc of the perverts.
But certainly, as is the case at most points in our lives, everybody is not going to love something that we share.
However, ultimately, I know you're right. This gave actual "haters" (as we all have) an opportunity to do what they do.
I think for some, it comes with the uncomfortable time we are in regarding children. I would've felt the same regardless.
Either way, this is clearly a loving, attentive family.
