First backflip in 2000, first double backflip in 2006, and now first triple backflip in 2015.. Just to think people thought a single backflip was impossible 15 years ago
yes but nowadays it's more about precise engineering of the distances and speed, autoCad projecting on a PC about the inclination of the take-off, total lenght of the landing, etc. back then he got only a natural ramp and his own balls ;) Respect for him
I was FUCKING THERE. I looked this up just for the nostalgia. This is in Providence, RI during the gravity games. He did it after the competition so it was off the record. I was 8 years old. Got my first dirt bike at 6. Watching this almost brings me to tears. ahh the memories
Yeah people can do doubles now but he paved the way and that's what's important. Once someone does it it's easy, but to be the first is a real challenge
It bottomed out the suspension. It was virtually impossible to land and keep riding after a flip like that, with the suspension configuration the bikes at that time were using. It's still amazing to watch considering there was no baseline for him to practice with, no video footage for him to study or reference, and no knowledge of how the suspension should be configured for that type of stunt.
@@tiitkrutto4507 Yeah, god this it the first person with the courage and skill to try it and the first time anyone saw it, of course they flipped out. Ever see video of people reacting to the first time a monster truck crushed cars? All it did was get up on the cars at 5 mph and the whole stadium went bananas.
I was there front row. Providence water place. I remember there being a rumor all day that he was gonna try it and seeing him do it was so surreal at the time. wow the first ever backflip which is now an every day trick for famous FMX'ers. its hard to believe how the back flip has come so far all starting with this one dude. its all amazing how this was a first time trick and now it used all the time in competitions
Just remember this was the first time it'd ever been done. Many said it was impossible since it'd bottom out the suspension of the bikes at the time, potentially causing severe injury to the wrists and spine since the impact might not be softened enough with the suspension bottoming out. So this is really as good as you could expect it to look at the time, especially with no baseline to go by or practice with.
People now don’t realize; foam pits weren’t a thing back then. So if you wanted to learn a new trick on a dirt bike, you had three choices: 1) set up a lake jump and learn it on a bmx bike first. Then try to translate that trick to a motocross bike 2) fuck your dirt bike up over and over jumping it into a lake instead. 2) Just fucking go for it on dirt. For Carey Hart to attempt this trick was completely insane, and it revolutionized the sport of freestyle mx forever. For years, no one though these kinds of tricks could actually be done on mx bikes. And he just said, piss on it. Imma go for it.
Yes people were using foam pits back then..... you make it sound like this was the 70s.... what are you talking about?..... and he's not even the first person to land a backflip on a dirt bike..... Caleb Wyatt is..... you can look it up if you don't believe me..... I met him at the X Games in 2004 and there was a whole documentary about him Landing the first ever backflip on a dirt bike
Why would you say something like for years people didn't even know something like this was possible he's not even the first person to do it..... there were people trying it for years leading up to it being landed successfully..... Mike Metzger was trying it lots of people were trying it and Caleb Wyatt is the first person to ever land a successful backflip on a dirt bike..... you can look that up..... so I don't know why you're saying what you're saying because maybe you think it sounds good or something but it's not true cuz you can actually look up what I'm saying
Listen to how intense these announcers make it for a fucking backflip... Now dudes do a tsunami double backflip no hander lander and the announcers like: "solid".
In 1991, Jose Yanez became the first person to backflip a motocross bike. He practiced for it by flipping his motorcycle into the Salt River, just as he had done with his BMX bike. (internet)
that changed the world. orthopedic surgeons made billions after that day. they damn sure made money off me! cary made his place in history and earned it!
I've just found from another comment that he wasn't the first. Incredibly a guy Jose Yanez was the first to do it, many years before this judging by the footage and bike he did it on.
For all of you saying that Jose Yanez was the first one to backflip a motocross, you are absolutely right.. It was pretty incredible back then and he absolutely deserves all the credits and recognitions for all of his bike and motorcycle exploits and i'm sure he was a huge inspiration for many after.. The dude had huge fucking balls and he forever changed freestyle motocross that day. I mean once it happened there was no going back.. Half of the riders retired not long after and the other half had to step up their game real fast.
