Burial at Sea of Soviet K-129 Submariners - US and Soviet Anthem 1974

  • Soviet Submarine, K-129 was a Project 629A (NATO reporting name Golf II-class submarine) diesel-electric-powered ballistic-missile submarine that served in the Pacific Fleet of the Soviet Navy-one of six Project 629 strategic ballistic-missile submarines assigned to the 15th Submarine Squadron based at Rybachiy Naval Base near Petropavlovsk.
    On 8th March 1968, the K-129 sank on the northwest of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean with all 98 hands.
    The K-129 was partially recovered in covert salvage operation by the American CIA in 1974.
    The remains of the sailors from K-129 was recovered by Glomar Explorer Seafloor Mining ship owned by Howard Hughes as a part of CIA’s “Project Azorian” secret mission.
    The Burial of the remains ceremony was held on the 4th September 1974.
