    My biggest problem with so many of these wallets is I can't put paper insurance style cards in them. I ended up buying a $5 business card holder and ripping out the spread in the center, holds about a dozen cards lose and virtually indestructible

      You just put your insurance, credit cards, loyalty cards etc on your digital wallet and only carry your drivers license and your bank card in your Apple wallet with a carbon fiber money clip. (Steel ones aren’t as good) Minimal, functional, attached to your phone. If it’s disconnected the phone drops a pin. I epoxied an AirTag on the money clip and can locate it with NFC, GPS, ( FindMy) and make it play a sound.

    Clever way of reducing the number of layers over lapping.
    I used an envelope design with sides and bottom over lapping in the middle held by one Chicago rivet and no stitching The top flap being the closure but this origami style has five layers (with the back). Using cork leather reduces the bulk and weight. I used sides of 90x60 mm. Stitching could reduce the layers to three.

    The main problems with minimalist wallets is they don't have the capacity for what I need to carry and their lack of organization too often leaves one fumbling. They look great, fit in the front pocket easily--I don't deny their esthetic appeal. But in the end they to have to work for you.

    • @dubester1982
      @dubester1982 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of them I'd agree. I like organization too. The ones that scratched that itch the most for me was the Tauruscamp Grain and Open Sea Leather Houbei. Plenty of capacity and easy to keep organized. Cash capacity and access are pretty seamless too. I carry 10 cards daily btw, and at times 10+ slips of cash

    I have a wallet that can hold banknotes and some spare change, that I made out of some spare textile. I keep my cards between two slices of wood held together with a wide textile elastic, which I also made. Keeping your cards and money in the same place makes it easy to lose both at the same time lol.

    A leather envelope... My grandma taught my aunts to carry envelopes inside a bag instead of wallets. As a consequence, most of my cousins carry paper envelopes around. It does work.

  • @RPL8M24
    @RPL8M24 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I made my first minimalist wallet, out of leather, but I had different problems, it was designed by someone else to only be a two compartment wallet, with only 2 pocket to keep stuff in, however I thought I could improvise a third pocket into it and get away with it. I was quite wrong, adding the extra pocket compromised the structural integrity to the point that whenever I put something else in the same pocket, it often catches the edge of the object going in and the wallet essentially is forced to bend in strange ways. I will be careful not to make such mistakes again. I still use mine as a daily driver.

    • @geraldmcmullon2465
      @geraldmcmullon2465 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use three compartments that holds cards, quick access, coins and bank notes and papers with no stitching and three pop button fastenings. I use cork leather. So far it had held up well in materials and daily carry. Reducing the bulk of the layers has other compromises. DIY allows me to pick how many cards to cater for. A depth of 5 to 20 mm is very easy to do.

      @@geraldmcmullon2465 I don't have any experience with push/pop buttons yet, I plan to try and integrate into my work in the future. My mother bought a FireBox camping stove last year and the package she got came with this weird leather thing that she thought was a potholder at first. Did some looking into it and realized it's a minimalist wallet that looks kind of like this, basically a pouch with a foldover flap. She gave it to me and I decided to give it a try, and it's been my daily use wallet for half a year now with no complaints.

    The reason I like minimalist wallets is because of their ease of use. I hate looking through my wallet for something that should be easily accessible and the fact that I have to 1) open the wallet 2) pull out of the cards looking for the one I need and 3) close the wallet defeats the purpose to me. Maybe if it had a slot in the back so it could fit a quick access card it'd make the wallet a lot more usable without adding any element to it.
    Just my 2 cents tho, great work regardless

    Been using an eagle creek silk undercover bra stash as my wallet/card holder for the last 10 or more years. About as minimalist as it gets, just a cradit card sized envelope with a snap. Can fit a few cards and folded up cash in them. I started using that when I went cycling around the world and wanted something I could hide easily, and it worked really well. Proba ly going to switch to something close but made of leather as the silk doesn't last as long as I'd like

    My biggest issue with the aluminum sandwich minimalist wallets is they require two hands. If I’m holding my daughter and I need to get a card out, it’s a pain in the ass. I love my Trayvax Ascent wallet. I use it all the time. My next favorite is TRAVAX Original.2.0. Both are fantastic. You cannot beat these wallets for connivence and durability,. Best wallets ever! No more back-pocket wallets EVER!

    I'll tell you one little secret, all phones have an NFC module. That's it, the wallet is no longer needed. Do not thank)

      You are kind of screwed if your phone dies though. But you can always just use one of those wallet style phone cases that has a space for a couple of cards to just always have your ID and main payment card on hand if needed.

      @@GreatGodSajuuk My passport will not fit into such a wallet, unless a driver's license.
      The phone is always with me, and I can forget my wallet at home, especially if there is no need to go somewhere.
      And I'm not in the habit of walking around with a dead phone. I always put it on charge at night, I have enough for a day.
      There have been no problems for many years.
