Do not buy a Genesis G80. I had a 2021 G80 bought used with 4k miles and sold it after 1 year since it was so bad. 1) Front Headliner was not secured to the roof. It looks like they made an EV with all off the shelf type components. That's why the Inverter is so large (not a custom PCB), why all the coolant system is so large and weirdly routed, etc. To be honest, I think it can be a positive at times, since it should be easier to source or replace broken things. Unlike very integrated custom parts that are very expensive, because you can't just replace the one broken thing of the part.
I gotta agree with the comparison with the Tesla and I’d have to go with the Genesis over Tesla. (Which will never happen, hybrid is as close as I’ll ever get to an EV!)
I agree about the leg positions while in the back seat - but I disagree that the seats are uncomfortable. I sat in the back of my car just to test it and while I would love for the seats to be positioned with more support under the knee area - the seats are luxurious and comfortable.
Awesome breakdown! I'm very interested in this car. The panoramic roof is a sad face omission but from what I've learned, the European spec has an integrated solar panel roof which, in conjunction with the raised floor (due to the battery) squeezed the cabin a little too much. I speculate D.O.T. regulations also played into the omission. With that, I speculate that the rear inverter being placed so high was also due to D.O.T. requirements for weight distribution? In either case, it's a bummer but still intrigued with this car. Thank you. Great channel

I take that back I just read on the Internet cost of this electric cars cost on this batterys is between 20,000 to 40,000 dollars to repair them or replacing them, depending on the model you have.

Any manufacturer that is not taking advantage of proper use of space, as Tesla and Lucid do, are at a disadvantage and shows poor design philosophy. Seems like these EV's are converted from ICE designs.
Genesis is already taking advantage of the E-GMP platform with the GV60 and upcoming GV90. As for the Electricfied G80, this is more of a experiment and place holder to see what is working or not on the GV60 and it cousins. Hyundai fixed the issue by building the new Kona as a EV first, then convert it over to ICE. The brand is not perfect, but they're willingness to correct and adapt exceed all other brands.
Having owned a Genesis G80 (previous generation, G80 Ultimate), I think there’s another important consideration to this brand beyond the mechanical pluses and minuses that Car Care Nut explains so well. Not something that normally needs highlighting when discussing purchase considerations - especially for luxury car brands. That is the ownership experience. In my 3+ years of owning my Genesis, I’d describe the ownership experience as poor. Like Car Care Nut, I live in suburban Chicago. Over my 3+ years of owning my Genesis I dealt with 3 different Hyundai / Genesis dealers. The best grade I would give to one would be a D+, while the other two would definitely be D-‘s. None befitting neither a luxury brand nor a mainstream brand IMHO. And, the poor dealership experience is especially accentuated when dealing with an issue that’s other than routine maintenance on the car. With Genesis vehicles now priced at the level of the big 3 German luxury brands the ownership experience is anything but luxury in my experience. I was told during my purchase that Hyundai revised their Genesis franchise agreement to require dealers to commit to build stand-alone dealerships in order for dealers to sell 2019 models and beyond. Perhaps there are some in other regions, but I’m unaware of any in suburban Chicago - one of the larger car markets in the country.
The looks of it are really great. Way better than the stupid normal EV look. That grill is really neat. Only thing I'm worried about is being a beta tester on the systems.
Great review as always. I just feel these EV's are just too complicated. Do we have a service force that is capable of handling all of this? I'll take my internal combustion engine any day over this technology.
man, is it possible to review the gasoline Genesis AWD? Basic Trim with the AWD. That would be awesome. Regarding Kia / Hyundai and Genesis vehicles. reliability is always a concern. but I have to say some of their design looks cool!! thank you very much for such a fantastic informative review. I have to add. there is a rush toward electrifying Vehicles which is the cause of missing opportunities. especially regarding energy management design, it does require more profound engineering and design. that not given enough time. at least in this case, that is what I think.
They are very different in the sense that the G80 has AWD, it requires premium gas, it cost more but drives better. The interior and exterior looks better on the G80 but reliability is outstanding on the Lexus. Either car is a great choice but you will get more compliments on the G80 because it's much rarer than the ES350.
@@kokopuffs5789 I agree. The G80 is more luxurious and the ES is more reliable and trouble free. The prices are actually very close for these two either new or used. I quoted a fully loaded ES350 FSport and they are asking 60k+ before tax.
The rear seat is too low? Dude, you're a half step up from a dwarf...with your stubby legs, it's near impossible for ANY seat to be too low for you? Dude, you gonna hate unnecessarily, it'll come back. I've sat in this car and that's a bunch of BS...
I love the videos but on the legroom thing, I'm 6'3" and I can't phathom why short people feel they need to have the front seat all the way to the back to put their legs straight. I bet you could move your front seat up at least another 4" and you'd be perfectly fine. But given all the other points I would Def skip this car.
Where is your Toyota BZ4X review? Undoubltly the WORST EV on the road next to the Mazda MX-30 EV...with all of the recalls and tires falling off? An absolute DISASTER and PR nightmare for Toyota...
No, I would not buy or accept a 2023 G80. I had one for two weeks. It was a living nightmare. Finding a charging station was a challenge. In my opinion, you have to have a lot of time on your hands. Let me say the design and style were superior!
I actually think that luxury cars should have a sunroof and no sunroof option, I believe many luxury cars used to be that way. Personally I hate sunroofs and they heighten your risk of ejection in a crash, no thanks.
im in the minority in that ill never get another sunroof car again. unfortunately in some models the sunroof comes with the same packages that have other things i want. g 80 is basically a Stinger, known for not having a generous back seat. But i can tell you, i sat in the back of a 2021 camry and i couldnt sit up. I was amazed, first time sitting in a camry and i dont fit. I had to slouch downif i didnt want to tilt my head. front seats were fine. In a stinger i have headroom but not much knee room in back. then again no one buys these cars for adults to sit in the back, thats what ES350, Avalon, even K5 are for. Interesting tip about the rotary knob in hyundai/kia hybrids and electrics, you dont have to put it in park yourself. Hit the Off switch and it will move t he 'transmission' to park for you as it shuts down. So you dont have to worry about forgetting i guess. my issue with these electronic shifters is, how to you put them in neutral so you can move a car when the battery is dead? There is no 'shift interlock' hole next to those knobs and buttons.
Lot of good information on batteries can't wait to see when Toyota comes out with a solid-state battery there's a lot of talk about this that oughta be a good topic longer-range quicker charging longer battery life
An answer to your title: "No". The Genesis brand, just like Toyota, does not have a proven good track record for EVs. Hyundai vehicles have been the subject of numerous recalls, in regards to their EVs, even though they have been building EVs for a while. My advice to anyone considering an EV is to don't be impulsive BUT wait, wait, and wait. EVs at this point of development are at the point of an internal combustion car of the 1910s and like early automobiles of that era, the infrastructure and cost of ownership is also terrible when considering purchase price... you will never get your money back. Buy a used Prius instead.

Great review as always. I just feel these EV's are just too complicated. Do we have a service force that is capable of handling all of this? I'll take my internal combustion engine any day over this technology.
I like everything about the interior except the steering wheel. Dire.
I keep seeing that older white LX in the shop and I worry there's something wrong with my favorite vehicle model!
I think the Genesis logo looks much like the Bentley logo.
I'm pretty sure it's the high current of the motors and inverter that generates heat and not the high voltage.
❤@My favorite car 🚗 guy 👊🏿👊🏻
can you do mazda 6.......
great review, and your right for $80K I can get a used model S plaid
man, is it possible to review the gasoline Genesis AWD? Basic Trim with the AWD. That would be awesome. Regarding Kia / Hyundai and Genesis vehicles. reliability is always a concern. but I have to say some of their design looks cool!! thank you very much for such a fantastic informative review. I have to add. there is a rush toward electrifying Vehicles which is the cause of missing opportunities. especially regarding energy management design, it does require more profound engineering and design. that not given enough time. at least in this case, that is what I think.
I'm confused now.... I was told Genesis/Hyundai/Kia uses heat pumps and not ptc......
Hi! Would you choose the G80 or the ES350? Thanks!
For longevity, the lexus
The rear seat is too low? Dude, you're a half step up from a dwarf...with your stubby legs, it's near impossible for ANY seat to be too low for you? Dude, you gonna hate unnecessarily, it'll come back. I've sat in this car and that's a bunch of BS...
I wanna see that red Celica
Hyundai don't even want to repair their basic lock issue. stay away from them.
Don't know why, I feel like the inside of tires are very worn
Good job
No, I would not buy or accept a 2023 G80. I had one for two weeks. It was a living nightmare. Finding a charging station was a challenge. In my opinion, you have to have a lot of time on your hands. Let me say the design and style were superior!
Really outlines in stark contrast how genius the Tesla design is
I'd leave it for at least 2 years, for them to work out all the bugs in the week components
I actually think that luxury cars should have a sunroof and no sunroof option, I believe many luxury cars used to be that way. Personally I hate sunroofs and they heighten your risk of ejection in a crash, no thanks.
BYD sends refrigerant to power battery
So you are trying to tell me to stay with the LS500?!😂
The Hyundai Elantra was $5995.00. I can't wrap my head around this car. LOL
im in the minority in that ill never get another sunroof car again. unfortunately in some models the sunroof comes with the same packages that have other things i want.
g 80 is basically a Stinger, known for not having a generous back seat.
I drove a Ioniq 6 and a G80e and the over all the Ioniq 6 feels like a far better car.
