With all due respect there are many variables that you haven’t addressed. I.e. marital status, income, living in a house or condo or apt., etc. lots of folks there are on a fixed income but a lot of people have investment income or retirement income etc. So it may not be a problem for you but not everyone can afford a retirement community. Nice for those that can afford it if that’s what they want. Respectfully submitted

I’m a widower, I don’t have investment my wife passed away 12 years ago with breast cancer she fought for 2 years she was the bread earner in my family so she made 3 times what I made at 57 years old. The bills piled up so her life insurance was wiped out paying off $175,000 in debt. I received my 100% disability in 2021, I own my house in The Villages as of June this year, I don’t have retirement income Etc. Is there anything else you need to know I didn’t have a house to sale to help me and I don’t have thousands of dollars in my bank account or savings. So is there anything I left out or Is that sufficient for you.

I golf alone don’t know anyone here it does get lonely at times. My wife’s request on her death bed was for me to live in The Villages, she thought the love I have for golf would help me. She tried for 40 years to teach me to love better. Thank you for your comment

I lived in Lake Worth in the early '60s. No A/C in most houses back then, just fans, so yes, you can live there without A/C, but most people are too spoiled nowadays to tolerate it. My respect for our ancestors who settled here prior to the availability of electric power.

I live in California and my homeowner's insurance is about 15K a year. My water bill averages between 800-1K a month. We just purchased a home in DeLuna in September. We are looking forward to our move to The Villages. The prices you are mentioning are peanuts compared to what we are used to paying.

Same here! San Fernando Valley in the 50s\60s. My dad hated air conditioning, and we had no pool. We went to the beach, movies, skating rink, and park pools to cool off. We’d play in wading pools and the sprinklers, and when lucky a neighbor’s pool. We’d run around the neighborhood with our friends after dark (hide and seek) when it was cooler. Good times! 😍

So true, many of us transplants did not have a/c before moving to Florida.
We lived on Long Island, and in the Summer we moved down to our finished basement. Mom cooked meals and brought them downstairs, we had t.v. with the "rabbit ears"!
It was a very comfortable temperature. We had an aboveground pool that helped too.
We made the best of it, but the Island was extremely hot July/August, and Winters were frigid.
    Omg, Linda.......72 a/c!
I keep mine at 80, but in all fairness, the system was replaced a year ago; it's more efficient than the original. I'm always cold! I was freezing in " POOBLUX" last week.
*I can't imagine not having ceiling fans to keep costs down so the thermostat can be a bit higher.

Yes not always much of a breeze here when you want one in the hot weather but during the rainy season there’s also an a nice thunderstruck storm to cool you off in the afternoon. Also the lightning looks kind of frightening. I’ve never seen so much lightning in my life in one area.

A manhole on my very block in Duluth Minnesota sunk and collapsed a couple of years ago. The old clay water mains collapsed causing this. They were well over 100 years old, just like my house. It closed off the entire intersection for TWO YEARS. it’s was fixed last year. I watched them remove the road and dig down 6 to 8 feet etc. I enjoyed the process. Now we have a new street and what a treat. The point is, sinkholes can happen anywhere. My homeowners insurance is much higher than your insurance and my home is valued far lower than yours. I would be in heaven considering the costs in Florida overall are far less than Minnesota. I filled my heating oil tank and it was about 3/4 empty - $868.00. In a very cold month, I could empty that tank. It’s awful and I have to heat up to 10 months a year.

You were talking about burritos and how you cook them. You need to get a 5.8 qt Cosori Air Fryer. I have had one for 3 years. It’s the best tool in my kitchen. Consider it a small oven but without using your huge oven. It takes a shorter time to cook but you could also do your burritos in it, less time, less oil and crispy like the oven. Pizza reheating in micro? I would never. Use your air fryer. 3 minutes on 350F. Tastes like you just ordered it. And no, I don’t get anything for the promo but trust me, it will cut your costs down on cooking and you’ll never go back to using your oven (unless you are doing a huge party and need tons of food). I did my research and the Cosori is easiest to clean and use. French fries taste great without soaking in oil. You can’t taste the difference. Tons of recipes for air fryer on You Tube.

So after moving to Florida down south to Englewood I decided to move north and come here. I'm in the village of Deluna. I have a brand new home with a backyard ( called Veranda home) and I am very happy here. I've only been here a few weeks but I have no regrets so far. Prices for the manufactured houses in the Historic side villages such as Silver Lake and Orange Blossom Gardens shot up to near or above $200K in the last 2 years. Such an increase is due both to the overall increases in FL and The Villages and rentals for short term visitors of by the week or by the single month in winter.

Here in MO we have both property tax and personal property tax (cars, boats, rv etc) and combining them puts us at aroun's $1,300 so TV will be an increase for us - but we think the trade off will be worth it. Pleasant weather and the ammenities - currently we have to drive over 30 minutes just to get groceries. And it doesn't matter what time of year if we get something to take home to eat it's cold. Entertainment? We've got the woods and our computer. My central air conditioner is broken needs replacement and I survive keeping blinds and most windows shut with a fan in the bedroom during summer in Minnesota.

A/C uses 10x as much electricity as a fan. I purchased a tower fan for $79. It operates via remote control, oscillates about a full half turn and has three speeds. Typically in the summer, my electric bill would be $85 in my 670 sq. ft. I-bdrm. apt. My highest bill this summer was $68 in August. I set my A/C at 80 so that it kicks on at 79 deg. The tower fan cools to 73 when the A/C is running. Most of my bills have been $58 or less. This $15-20 per mo. savings helps a lot with the inflation we’ve experienced now that people are spending again after the worst of the pandemic. I used to keep my A/C at 74 before I got the tower fan. I also changed my cell to a low usage plan. My phone uses WiFi when I’m home, which is most of the time so I got a low data plan that’s $20/mo. The 1gig of data is far more than I use and it saves me $35 monthly. I’ve done other things too that have provided small savings without sacrificing much at all. I did go on 5 cruises over the past year and there was a lot of good deals there to as the cruise industry is getting back to regular schedules. $3000 for homeowners’ insurance is not bad. I know people paying $6000/yr.

Florida's population increased dramatically since air-conditioning became common. From 1960 to 2022 the population went from 5M to 22M. Having low taxes and a state govt. that promotes freedom and prosperity is the reason so many people move here.

And we pay state income tax! One big problem, my husband does not want to move to Florida or to any other place. I have visited my friend who lives in The Villages and love it. A week from today my husband and I will be staying for 2 weeks in a lovely home in Hawkins. Maybe he will have a change of heart, at least for the winter months. Keep the videos coming! We live in California's Central Valley where it often gets well over a 100 degrees in the summer but the humidity is low and it cools off at night. We only use our air conditioner on the hottest summer days. Florida heat is probably more oppressive because of the humidity? California may have lower humidity but has lots of other problems!

The repairs around the manhole issue are being paid for by the County not The Villages. The County is paying to pay for the hotel stay for the residents not The Villages. The Villages is doing the work and will be reimbursed by the county, The Villages is able to mobilize much quicker than the county government so the county is letting them do the work.

Great video guys. One thing people usually don't count when they are doing the expenses of the villages is the entertainment/amenities. We have a small pool that costs quite a bit in maintenance. Then when you add in how much we spend on other forms of entertainment it really starts to add up. That combined with an easy active lifestyle and social interaction. I think the Villages is well worth the cost. I know in our small town there are many older folks who just don't have many ways to be active or social. And that is very important to living a long healthy and happy life. Oh, and we are from Arkansas and plan on moving to the Villages as soon as our daughter goes off to college. Wooo Pig Sooie!

Home owners insurance already pricey but will probably skyrocket because of Ian. The roof situation is understandable. The heat alone will cut the life of the shingles. 30yr shingle does not equal 30 yrs in Florida.

I think Linda had some legitimate concerns about your eye. Most common is the burst blood vessel. Everything was a possibility and thank goodness it has resolved itself. Very pleased about that. I had pink eye one time right after Christmas 2011. I had traveled to Indiana for the hole and was around several children who had your typical winter cold. I’m sure that’s how it started. Both of my eyes were totally bright red. I looked like a vampire. I had 4 meds and off work for the entire week. I pretty much slept the entire time. It was miserable. However, I had an absolutely wonderful Christmas and the children were a joy. I felt like St. Francis. If you take the moisture out of the air, you can tolerate a higher temp. I think I’d run my air in the mid to upper 70s. I keep it at 70 now because I have an older home and I keep the doors to the living and dining rooms closed. This is where the thermostat is so the temp needs to be lower in order to cool the upstairs. Works. I’ve had the same air conditioner for about 20 years.

I have the same problem of burst vessel in my eyes. Now that I'm retired and do less strenuous work it happens way less often. I always knew when it was coming because it felt like I had something in my eye that I couldn't get rid of (the swelling vessel building before the burst). Soon after it would appear and stay for about 3-5 days. I also have what are called floaters in my right eye. Doc says it's no big deal and can be removed if it bothers you. It's just floating goo that moves around in and out of your field of view. If I have a white Styrofoam cup I look into it at close range and see a brown spot that moves around in the cup as I move my eye. So many strange things that happen to our eyes.
