    He controlled and manipulated her when they were together, then stalked and terrorized and tried to kill her because she rejected him, there's no fixing a person like that. He can't be trusted in society.

      I hope he will seek Jesus first and foremost. He's the ONLY ONE who knows each one of us completely and will dwell within the souls of ALL who come to Him, sincerely and seriously receive His help. He transforms lives from the inside out. He begins right where we are at and never abandons us. It's a GIFT and it is offered without cost. You don't have to earn it BUT you DO have to ask Him It's remarkable. Just a we have our amazing Lord and Savior, we also have an enemy who seeks to destroy our lives. His name is satan. He tries to destroy ALL whose soul is not SEALED by the Lord Jesus. He has made Himself available for all who genuinely seek Him. Even this young man CAN be forgiven and transformed IF he is and invites the Lord to indwell His soul. I've never in my life met one single person who has regretted their decision to accept Jesus' FREE gift of Salvation and eternal life. I'm no longer young and I still have yet to meet a single person who regrets seeking God.

      @@pse888Are you listening to yourself??? He stabbed the girl was stabbed 17 times!! He stabbed her Mom and the person who tried to help her. How about someone did that to your sister, mother or loved one. Did you know the actual story or have watched the video of this girl's from the beginning and recovery for a year and a half?? You must have not. Watch it! He stabbed her at the spine and became paralysed. Her rehabilitation process was very difficult and incredibly sad to watch. And you make excuses because he has a mental illness. Yeah, yeah, always pulling the crazy card isn't. Imagine the horror of being stabbed repeatedly. @@NadiraBarIdan You'd be surprised. Some victims are incredibly resilient to the point where (i've actually seen this in court whether they mean it or not) that they forgive the individual, and (especially if the criminal is young) that they are more "angry at Satan" for making said criminal so "sick". I'm going to have to Google a particular case where a pizza delivery boy was drawn purposely to a residence and murdered for virtually pennies. The victims father delivered an incredible forgiveness statement and even hugged the man who killed his son. It was an incredible thing to see.

His father testified football, concussions caused a change in his behaviour but they kept him playing for years (if it was the cause/partial cause of his behavioural changes, personalities, brain is still developing, teens, early twenties is when many mental illnesses or behavioural concerns become apparent)

    • @ruthgiles8926
      @ruthgiles8926 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      His father tried to blame football injuries, but he, the father, did nothing to stop him getting injured. It's like someone saying - I took my son to boxing classes and when he got punch drunk, I told him to man up! No, a real father gets treatment for his child and protects him from further injury. He doesn't use that as an excuse when his punch-drunk son kills someone.
      It isn't a reason, let alone an excuse - otherwise every football kid in America would be a mad slasher!
      However, if I was the parent of someone like this, I would be tearing my hair out wondering what I could have done to prevent it, so yes, the parents do bear some responsibility.

    Hearing that short blurted out apology - however difficult it is to take responsibility and admit before others your short comings - it just sounded hollow. Rushed - impulsive - reflecting still immaturity and lack of depth for the ACTUAL DAMAGE HE DID TO SO MANY. He has had time to reflect on the preciousness of life - - he has had time to hear from his family reports on the incredibly difficult drastic surgeries and long painful recoveries his ex girlfriend and her mother and the man who tried to stop the attack suffered. He shows the BARE MINIMUM - Incapable of Full Remorse and Fully Standing in Responsibility to FACE THESE VICTIMS. He Should Have Paused and Looked In Their Direction with EACH APOLOGY. But His Heart Is Full of Scattered Distracted Energy - He Has Not Sought Out The Coping Skills Needed To Be A Full Participating Member of Society. Jail is a stressful and challenging place - but there are also times to learn = reflect = to work on yourself - - This chatter of an address to the court was very disappointing.

    As someone who deals with mental health challenges myself, I really empathize with him. When someone has a genuine history of severe mental health issues, they should receive the help they need in a correctional health facility. Ideally, there should be at least 30 years focused on mental health treatment, with an additional 10 years to hold them accountable for their actions. Simply throwing him in jail, knowing the severity of his mental health struggles, will likely only make things worse. The compassionate approach would be to focus on helping him. Maybe after 40 years, if his mental health has genuinely improved and stabilized, there could be a possibility for reintegration into society-with the understanding that he volunteers 500 hours of community service to raise awareness about the importance of seeking mental health treatment using his story as the platform.

    To be quite blunt, St. John’s county needs a better system in place for how to deal with mental health, so that they can better prevent these types of situations and outbursts from happening. I went to Ponte Vedra high school for 2 1/2 years and graduated in 2023, the same high school as both Madison and Spencer. I came from Seattle, Washington and the school and district that I went to in Seattle had a much better system in place for how to deal with mental health situations like these. At PVHS, they were so hard on the kids there and I got so much pressure put on me there to the point where it was very detrimental to my health, mentally, emotionally, and even physically. I currently attend a Top 10 public university and have been pushed out of my comfort zone, but have experienced nowhere near as much pressure and harshness from the faculty at my university as I did at PVHS. Expecting kids to suck it up if they were dealing with something that’s hard for them and making them feel belittled or like they’re alone in times of trouble is not a good move.
    My heart goes out to both Madison and Spencer, as well as their families. and I’ve kept them in my prayers since the attack happened. This is such a sad situation and I hope that the Lord continues to watch over them and be with them. God bless 🤍

    I always feel so bad for people that commit crimes of passion. Emotions take over, especially when you are young and have the level of emotional connection they did and you don’t know how to accept rejection. Kids need to be better prepared for emotional pain and how to deal with relationships, especially first loves when they are young. They cannot see past what’s in front of them and this kid obviously thought his world was over. Not sure if he was planning a murder suicide but he wasn’t able to take the pain and wanted a way out.

    He wants to get help now so he can return to his family. I couldn't imagine someone giving him the chance to be out again just to finish what he started on Madison, her mother, and the stranger who saved them all! What he did to Madison during their relationship prior to 6/3/23 and on that day will be imbedded into Madison's memory just as deep as the scars we cannot see. She will live with what he's done to her and her family and the stranger who saved them for the rest of her life. There is no release or parole for her, she's been given a life sentence and she's been serving it since the day he tried to murder her. He wasnt just trying to "hurt" her he wanted her dead. This young woman is stronger than anyone I know. I can't imagine what it took for her to walk past him and then to sit and face this demon as she spoke about what she had to go thru to walk into that courtroom. For the last year and a half she has been fighting to get back to the life she once had and she deserves to do that without the FEAR of him possibly being released to finish what he started.

I know what he did was shocking.. but I agree that LWP is extremely excessive.. especially in light of his age, his brain injuries, his own very real attempt at suicide, his obvious remorse and willingness to plead guilty and also his having family who is obviously willing to support him. I understand that Madeline particularly will have life long disabilities and trauma.. and that he definitely intended to take her life.. but I agree, it's very extreme sentencing and I suspect he will want to appeal.. although he and his family may feel that appealing may be adding further trauma to Madeline. There are no winners in this case.. and I hope that mental health becomes more prioritised in societies.
