One of the reasons that Chaplin avoided talkies was the fact, the silent movies shot at 18fps. In that ratio, all the actions looks faster. In talking movies you have to shoot 24 fps, so the actions won"t appear funny.
This is an old 80s movie directed by Jamal's mentor K Balachander. Look how well he imitated Chaplin, maybe not the best one but still the best one in India. This is one of Kamal's talent.
The actress you've seen is revathy. She's malayali. You've seen her in Margarita with a straw. She played Kalki's mom in it. She even played Alia bhatt's mom in 2 states.
It's a shame this movie might not have subtitles for you guys to enjoy. This was one of KB-Kamal-Ilayaraja masterpieces, one of the few times I can use that word and not feel guilty. And the reason things were "sped-up" for the Chaplin sequences in this movie was because that was how we used to get Chaplin films back in the day. Same goes for Laurel-Hardy films as well, it would all seem less smooth due to the original films shot at way less FPS (~18 to 20) than what our television sets were transmitting (~30) back then.
The easiest to start off with will.be nayakan.. an adaptation of the god father .. then pushpak a silent movie with just pure acting .. Sadma or mundram pirai.. he stole the show from Sri Devi in the last 10 minutes.. Thevar magan talks about casteism.. anbe shivam.. communism.. ..unmai pol oruvam a remake of a Wednesday...he brings in something different to what the legend naseerudin shah did .. kuruthipunal a hard hitting cop story .. hey ram.. mahanadi.. both of you being father's will be blown away .. these are just starters :) but will give u an idea of his range .. pity u can't watch any of his comedies..cos the subtitles will never do justice

U shud watch Kamal Hassan’s movie Aboorva Sahodhargal .. he plays a dwarf character for an entire movie. This movie was shot based on camera tricks when VFX was not available and he totally convinced the audience about the dwarf character. Yes u shud be very very disappointed that u haven’t watched even one of Kamal Haasan movie. He is an entertainer and all an all rounder in the field of movie making.
