It's insane that I know someone like this. They seemed so friendly and loving, but they were completely off in the head.
I feel like it’s pretty relatable. You just bump into someone in a public space whose not really a threat to you in the moment but who gives glimpses of not being a good person, and then they fuck off and you never see each other again.
I didn't know I would stay here for the romance between Goobers and Stella, but here we are.

I played this and took the bag of peanuts. I've been offering the peanuts to everybody I meet as a kind gesture and it's been so hilarious (it's the small things for me) 😂
I did the exact same. I had this mental picture of a dead-eyed, non blinking person just slowly and silently taking a leaking bag of boiled peanuts out of their bag and slowly pushing it towards the person, without saying a word.
Hahaha, my mental image was more of an innocent individual who just had no idea that what they were offering was something rather disgusting. First greetings was arm fully stretched out followed by "would you like a peanut?" with the most wholesome smile you can imagine. They tried...

I came back to say THANK YOU SO MUCH I've read all of book 1 and what's been uploaded of book 2 on the website. Probably gonna ask for the physical copy of the book for Christmas. Gosh she's absolutely fantastic at writing & drawing, I've already seen it with that little of Scarlet Hollow, but I've 100% confirmed it with The Last Halloween.

Tailypo is an Appalachian tale. A hunter goes out with his three dogs. While in the woods the hunter spies a strange creature and tries to kill it, but only gets its tail. That night he fries it up and eats the tail with his dogs. The next day he is hunting and one of his dogs disappears. That night he hears a gravelly voice going "tailypo tailypo, I want my tailypo". It repeats the next two days with his other two dogs disappearing. The final night he's huddled around the fire waiting for dawn so he can go home. The gravelly voice gets closer and closer saying "tailypo tailypo I want my tailypo!" When the creature attacks and kills the hunter. (Some variations of the ending involve more disturbing details). The hunters brothers come out looking for him and just find the remains of his camp and no signs of the hunter or his dogs.

I have so much fun when Evelien pronounces stuff like Fayetteville - was it? - and Appalachian. I’ve heard so many variations over the years so when someone has to say regional words for the first time, it makes me smile.
I almost fell out when Tailypo popped up. I think that story was one of my first introductions to those campfire …tales 😏😒 …and I got hooooooked. “Tailypo.. Tailypo.. Give me back my tailypo. You have got it - this I know. Give me back my tailypo…” OH! And the version I read ends with the classic voice on the wind late at night, “Tailypo. Tailypo. Now I have my tailypo.” 😳

The Mystic trait seems good at unnerving characters with foreboding words and giving predictions of what's generally going to happen and spotting supernatural atmosphere, like that deer scene. Keen Eye is more of being observant of what's around you in detail.
Ah, choosing the Powerful Build trait makes it possible to save both Duke and Gretchen. Picking hot is hilarious and makes the dateable characters flustered at you.

Damn, this is a very well thought-out and engaging Visual Novel. I really like how you can customize your protagonist's characteristics to obtain certain details that would be revealed to you only if you have that particular trait. It adds a little more replay value.

tiny detail but when she's talking to stella on the trail, gretchen will occasionally move around on the path. not much but after some questions you can see she's sniffing the bush or chasing her tail. it's so cute

Stella even has slightly wavy hair and dimples like Gab, huhu. Gretchen is Stella's BB.
Speaking of characters, Tabitha's and Stella's pets reflect their personality- the cat has the same prickly attitude as Tabby (that nickname's also a fur pattern on some cats) and would only show affection if the cat chooses to voluntarily. Gretchen is bubbly and excitable like Stella, open to adventures and new friends.
Some serious love and care went into this game. Wow
Wow the game has a nice flow and is very stable for a free game, how wonderful. Really hope they get the support they get for the next episodes and stuff too
This was really cool, I really enjoyed the interactions with Stella! What a spooky and tense premise! I'm curious to know more about Tabitha too, I was genuinely surprised she sent so many texts and calls - she must be concerned about her cousin to bother so much :c

As soon as I saw the start of this I ran to play it myself. Now that I've finished ep1 & backed the project on kickstarter, I can finally watch your gameplay, yay!
Also, yes bacon is not the best for dogs. Too salty, too greasy. Fried and/or salted stuff in general is a nope for animals, high risk to make them seriously ill in the long run. One bite-sized piece per month is the maximum I'd recommend if you really really want to praise them for something. Hope I've been of some help 💜

I'd like to thank you Gab, lately I've been struggling really bad with mental and physical health and being able to turn to yours and Seán's videos have been such a big help. Being a massive lover of cryptids and ghosts alike it's really nice to just curl up in bed with a hoodie and blanket with some snacks and watch your Phasmophobia play throughs and this videos atmosphere is the best to relax and watch.

Her name's also Sybil, which means prophetess or fortuneteller. It's also often used in fiction as a name for characters that have clairvoyance or can communicate with the supernatural. :D Cool details.
Forsyth is also a county in western North Carolina, where the game is set. My mom was born there!

Gab being absolutely shocked that the cops would leave the body overnight because of convenience xD Welcome to America! Also, NC is my home state and the woods in that area of the state get pitch black at night, it’s super intense. This person also did their research because NC has been getting in on the cryptid game more and more the last couple years. Loving this! Might have to pick this up for myself.

Oh, holy shit!! it's Abby!! She writes on e of my favourite web comics, Last Halloween!! I shoulda known, the art style looked familiar. I forgot she was working on a gaming project and that's why comic updates were slow. God, she's so amazing.

Wow! The "tailypo" is from an Appalachian folklore by the same name (born and raised in Appalachia). I remember reading an adaptation of it when I was a kid =) Just did a quick google search to refresh my memory so here's a quick summary:
It's about an old man who lives in a cabin in the woods with his 3 dogs, and he encounters the "tailypo" (a small black furry creature with red eyes in most depictions, somewhat like a dog, teeth and claws and the like. You can google it to see some art) in the woods while hunting for food. He shoots its tail off which he ends up taking back home and eating. The creature then appears in the night and can be heard, either outside the cabin or appearing at the foot of the man's bed, and it verbally demands its tail back - "give me back my tailypo!" (hence the name). [side note: In the version I read as a kid, the tailypo initially is heard by the man on THE ROOF of the cabin, and can be heard walking back and forth and demanding its tail, before eventually appearing inside the cabin at the foot of his bed.] The man sends his three dogs after the creature, but only two come back. The creature returns, demanding its tail, and every time he has his dogs chase it away, one of his dogs disappears. When none of them are left, the story ends with the man either being mauled or (presumably) killed by the creature in return for the loss of its tail.
I loved this first episode, I'm really into it! I love Appalachian-based horror and folk tales so I'm really happy about the vibe going on in this. By the way, it's pronounced "Appa-latch-in"! if you're unfamiliar, it's a mountainous region stretching down the eastern coast of the United States; it's generally just considered the region around that mountain range, known as the Appalachian mountains. There's a local cultural American history around Appalachia that's usually characterized by predominantly rural "Southern" communities that were built around the mountain range, which was the source of a lot of coal production, but the people living in the region tended (and still do) to be very impoverished despite the coal production, so the local culture is defined by those impoverished conditions and rural life around the mountains. For me, coming from the central region of the chain (the "heart" in eastern Kentucky/WV), that meant a lot of local "bumpkin" culture - mining, railroads, cabins in the woods, farms, horses, 'coon/deer hunting (I have never seen nor heard of a mountain lion in the region in all my years, lol sorry Duke!), tractor rides, cryptids (the home of Mothman!), moonshine, bluegrass and country music, small town vibes, thick local dialect/Southern accents - and it gave us stories like Tailypo =) We love murder stories, ghosts, and spooky stuff around here! I love Stella and I can't wait to see more of this!

@@AlexTheBlue24 To add to it being Southern primarily, it's also very much an "old people" kind of snack. I hate boiled peanuts and haven't met *anyone* 'round here who likes them. They're... so bland. Like they might once have tasted like peanuts, maybe. And also they're weirdly soft, but not mushy, like... I can't even describe it. You still gotta chew them, but they don't _crunch._
The only thing worse in my experience to date has been roast chestnuts, because the ones I had were soggy and mushy and had gone cold and didn't have salt and- ugh, if you're familiar with roast chestnuts that have cooled down too much, I'd say it's fairly accurate to the boiled peanuts experience, just larger pieces.
This is amazing! After 20 minutes of your playthrough I went ahead and bought it for myself. I'm so excited for Chapter 3!
This game has a somehow intriguing yet familiar atmosphere. How is that possible? Awesome video as always.
It's so awesome to see an amazing visual novel based in my local area. Western North Carolina has a lot of small mountains and big forests that I used to explore when I was in my early 20's. My little private Christian school I went to played JV basketball games against a school in Catawba county and I don't live far from Fayetteville. I live in the hilariously named small town of Tobaccoville, and there is a tobacco processing plant less than a mile from my house. You can smell the sweet scent of the leaves being cured in the air outside, depending on time of year and wind direction. There are also a lot of coyotes and occasionally a mountain lion you may encounter depending on what part of NC you're in.
I wasn't even going to watch this but the thumbnail and "hold on to your butt" definitely drew me in, thanks

Hello from 2024😂 Ive past this playlist many times and it didnt seem like a "me" vibe. But ive had an emotional few days and needed something more....chill. Gabs voice reading me a book seemed like the perfect "chill vibe". Here i am, 1hr in. Im tucked in my blanket, with my nighttime tea, just as cozy and soothed as BB. Sorry i didnt have as much faith in this playlist as i should have. But, maybe my mystic soul was saving it for when i really needed it. Thank you Evelyn and BB. ❤

I really enjoyed this episode and your play-through of this game! I was excited to see that they are coming out with Episode 2 in May and look forward to a potential play-through/ stream if you're feeling up to it! I used to call my late dog 'Goobert' so when I saw you list your name as 'Goobers' I chuckled. Her actual name was Gabby (short for Gabriella) but she was such a goofy Goobert, bless her beautiful soul.

Hey Gab, love your play throughs! Just wanted to let you know that you were realllllllly close on the correct pronunciation of Appalachia. There are two main ways of pronouncing it: "App-uh-lay-sha" or "App-uh-lah-sha" there are some slight variations depending on where in Appalachia you are, but either of those are generally well received by residents.
