You show n play really well and I like how you explain n show the picking finger n wrist mechanics that let you cross pick lines with chord strumming ...good for those new to one note per string lines ....not easy for a lot of us !
Really good lesson Ben. I have been an electric player 99% of the time for over 35 years. Lately I have been focusing on Acoustic and have a tendency to strum from my entire arm. I realized for accuracy I need more wrist action and you verified that for me. I have always placed my pinky on my electric as a reference point for accurate picking. Thanks so much!
It drives me crazy when people strum with their whole arm. I'm like, "strum with your wrist it's not that hard." String bender you are doing the right thing by learning to strum with your wrist. I'm sorry for the poor word placement I'm only 13.
Why do all bluegrass players use the same capo? It looks like it gives more clearance for your hand but I've been using a keiser my whole life and its never much of a problem, but every single bluegrass player has these antique looking capos
John Bifulco I can't speak for all the bluegrass players, but in my case it's all about being able to adjust the clamping pressure. I have a Paige, which is the same style capo as the one he's using. Elliot seems to be the go to brand for pro players, but they're expensive. You can get a Paige for under $20 from Amazon. I have a Kyser, but never use it any more because the spring is too strong. It causes tuning to go sharp because it applies too much pressure. Clearance is actually a little better with the Kyser. The adjustment screw sticks out from the center of the neck about 1.5". Interferes with the left hand more than the handle on the Kyser, which only interferes on one side.

Would be nice if you would mention the kind of pick you use, I do crosspicking also and it's not all the pick that works the best for me.
Larry Kenney bluechip picks. I think he uses a TAD 40 but I could be wrong
