I'm the original owner. It's a 1997 and it sounds/plays so good I sold my '66 D-28. It has appeared on 100+ recordings. Haven't touched the peeling finish. It has several cracks from road crews slinging it around like a cheap guitar. Going for Willie Nelson's Trigger look!

Eyes closed, your suggesting one note sounds different played with a down pick than an up stroke?

For most, yes, they naturally strike the string a little harder with a down stroke. This follows the sense that the beat is stronger than the offbeat, which gets turned around when doing the traditional cross picking of down, down, up. Some compensate for this by purposely playing the upstroke louder.
