Carson really admired Benny a lot...it goes way back...sad..that Benny died not to long after this show...at 80...Red fox was something too...met the guy one time trying to get out of the holiday inn in holly wood way back when..he gave me a couple of tickets to see his fight in east LA that night....a time not to be forgotten...and a lot of water under the bridge.....
The Jack Benny Show is from the golden years of radio, but it has a very modern feel to it. You can sit there in a car and the same person who says the cannot stand black and white movies will be cracking up listening to his show.
56:52 The Jim Henson segment is fascinating. Cannot imagine anything like that on any network now. And ya gotta love that one of the 'parents' that flash by is Dr. William Masters (58:02).
I just started watching this and if I don't see Jack and Mel do the 'Si, Sy, Sue' routine, I'm going to be severely disappointed!.....HALLELUJAH THEY DO IT!!! Still funny!
Interesting to see Mel come out with his cane, which he usually tried to avoid letting people see on television. In an appearance with Letterman several years later, he was already seated when Dave introduced him so that he wouldn’t have to walk out with his cane on camera.
You can see Jack and Mel truly respected and loved each other here ! Classic, brings a tear to my 56 year old eyes knowing that they are all gone from this world......we all gotta go & we will all be memories for many, make sure you're a good one ! Also " Midnight at The Oasis " is great too !! ....one more thing , the Dr. here at the end passed away just one year after this at 79 from a heart attack ! We can do all we want to try and live long healthy lives, but when GOD calls, we go !!
At 1:09:17, it's funny when the doctor tries to prove a point that Jack Benny keeps to his diet, then Jack Benny jokes that he eats everything, then the doctor gives up and raises his arms in the air, as if he said that's it, oh god, whatever! It would be even funnier if he flapped his arms everywhere.

Jack Benny was just a class act and left way too soon. He will always be loved and missed. Mel blanc was great also. I'm so glad these video's are still around to watch over and over again.
Bugs Bunny and Kermit in one show, unbelievable
seems like it couldn't ever exist but there they were
I think, whats weird.....our subconscious mind, may think of cartoon characters as (real) people
Mel Blanc was always an inspiration too me I loved doing voices!
Thanks for the upload! I believe this was the last time Jack Benny was a guest on The Tonight Show before he passed away later in 1974.
2:50 Johnny brought back some great memories of The Exorcist. Does anyone remember waiting on lines that went around the corner-in the rain AND snow? All the mass hysteria? All the sleeping bags and blankets? Great time for movie history😊👍🏻
Only one still alive is Maria still performing “Midnight at the Oasis” almost 50 years later.
I remember seeing this show with Maria Muldaur. Just wish that the video quality was better. I bought that album on vinyl and later bought it on CD as well.
Henson’s bit was incredible!
Mel Blanc = pure genius
Mr. Benny looked good and sounded good in this airing January of 74. According to Wikipedia he died of pancreatic cancer December of the same year. I know from a personal friend of mine passing by this that it is quick (as cancers go). Can see this happening! Long live your memory Mr. Jack Benny aka Benjamin Kubelsky. Long may your memory be!!!
You can sit there in a car and the same person who says the cannot stand black and white movies will be cracking up listening to his show.
even when johnny was tanking the mono log he was the greatest
This is priceless! True comedy!
This aired 2 days before my 18th birthday
I worked 3rd shift back then. I would wake up and watch the monologue then head to work.
Graveyard?
56:52 The Jim Henson segment is fascinating. Cannot imagine anything like that on any network now.
And ya gotta love that one of the 'parents' that flash by is Dr. William Masters (58:02).
Great uploads! To me,Johnny was tops.👍👍👍👍.
That Song became a great big Radio Hit in the NYC Area, At the time for Maria Muldur
77WABC AM in particular.
Johnny Carson best last night show ever!
Everyone on the set and the people at home watching had so much fun, Johnny Carson it doesn’t get any better 👍
amazing how a hand up a green sock can make you feel what he's feeling...genius!
Lol, Johnny's stage looks like a Tiki bar around this time.
@MerkinMuffly You’re right! Hahaha
Oh, how i miss those days. Greats like Benny and Carson. To me, we have slop now.
Mel Blanc, Jack Benny and Johnny Carson. The all-time funniest performers in cartoons, radio and late-night television.
I love the contemporary references to The Exorcist. The film was just released a month before and it was freaking out America.
