I wish modern homes would keep this impeccable design

I don’t understand the mid century looking fixtures, but the house is amazing

You know, different strokes. Personally, I also love the simplistic ideal of MCM design.

This is the epitome of wretched excess -- and I absolutely love it. This video makes my eyes water.

Just so everyone knows…. This home was designed by architect John F Barber and apparently was one of the ONLY ones in this design built in brick as opposed to wood. It’s very special and I hope people know that

Welp, if you can afford this home, you can afford a housekeeper twice a month.

This is the I. W. P. Buchanan residence (first owner), Design Number 56 by George Franklin Barber. The cost to build this, one of two variations (plans), was between $2,900.00 and $3,900.00 in 1897. Another was constructed in Knoxville, TN----the D.J. Egleston residence.

That's really interesting, thanks for sharing! Is the one in Knoxville still around?

    • @greengold7648

@@615MEDIA Not sure if the one in Knoxville still stands, but if you go on TH-cam there is yet another of these homes in New Orleans. It is supposedly haunted. The name of the TH-cam video is called: My Haunted House: Woman Living in Old Speakeasy Haunted by the Ghost of Owner. Another beautiful variation to design number 56.

I would replicate this home with limestone for the walls with round arch doorways, change the kitchen colors, and the colors at the top, and it’ll heaven to muh eyes! 😍
    Still a very breathtaking house!!

The modern elements, especially the light fixtures upstairs, look tacky in a Victorian home.

    • @erosleroi7638

Those Sputnik lighting fixtures are atrocious in a Victorian house! And the subway tiles and that barn door are really poorly chosen fixtures.

@@erosleroi7638, I agree except for the subway tile. I believe Victorian homes were the first to have subway tile.

Yes, they are destroying the historic appeal of the Victorian home entirely! The Modern elements really turned me off. Those modern elements belong in bigger modern homes or any other type of modern home developed after the 90s. Tacky! Other than that, everything else looks good.

  • @davehester7349

I think the place is beautiful, but there is no way I would buy it. The home is still old, it is going to be a money pit for heating and cooling. The old look appeal will wear off in a very short time. Have fun who ever buys it.
