    Love seeing your nobilior and walkeriana collection. It totally inspires me to keep trying. Right now I am just happy to be able to grow roots. The blooms will come later .... maybe next year. My nobilior v. amaliae has finally started to grow well. It has taken me three years and was an import from Floralia. 🤞🏻Hopefully it will be worth the wait when it blooms.

    You are so good with these orchids. My Picotee Passion cross that I purchased from SVO is putting out a spike. It will be wonky at best as the sheath came out weird looking and the single bloom had trouble releasing from the sheath. But I count myself fortunate to get a bloom this soon so I will let it continue. Thanks for all the good info.

    Beautiful walkerianas etc. If you wash the roof wouldn’t that give you more light or do you have it to keep it from getting too hot. You are in Texas right. Doesn’t it get cold where you are in the weather, how do you keep it warm and nice and moist ie humidified? Plus circulation and ventilation. I’m in Virginia.
    I did a gorilla grow tent this winter, it’s been quite a learning cure - usually send out to be boarded, around 60+ plants. Use a KIND led light,,had to turn it almost way down and turned the Red Ir almost off too, etc. have to look it up but it had the plants all blooming it was crazy. Way too powerful a light but it’s what they said came with that kit. I know I want a GH so wanted the light suitable for it. Lost a couple plants - Vandas, could keep most enough, have to figure that up, can’t wait to get outside. Using a humidifier 6L it sits outside the tent which is 5x5 with the sensor handing inside and it comes on and off by itself set for 70%. It’s usually around 65-70% it varies not sure why. But it’s better than when I started. The tubing is run through and has two sets of tubing pointed over the plants. The plants don’t get wet or anything, kinda like fog, do have to keep a bucket inside under where the tubing sits above so it can drip a little into it. I will be interested to see how they will be affected since they have been blooming so much. I have it almost off the light is up in the ceiling. Has 2 circulation fans and an inline filer for ventilation, it’s outside too. Light and tent and inline came as a kit from Gorilla Grow Tent manufacture in CA. Came with 8 grow buckets 5 gal I believe was like what the heck will I do with these, ended up sitting Vandas in them and spraying in the bucket, the deep saucers that came with buckets catch the water. Need to fix some things for next year. But the plants got in bad shape because I went the first 4-5 months of winter with too much light, too much blooming, and not enough humidity. They won’t go out until mid May to June 1 before night temps are safe. Sitting on shelving unit. Great tent and light too. The company makes and sells mostly medical cannabis companies. I could easily grow tomatoes, eggplants etc in there, plenty of light. A friend said we need to throw the orchids out, put some lawn chairs in there, some tropical drinks, beach music and chill. 🤣

      I had a southern burner heater and I wrapped it in plastic in the winter! I also had a fan running, pointing at the roof.

    Hi, Stephen! I just love your entire Cattleya species collection. You’ve inspired me so much as I increase my own. I just purchased a TLC bare root, blooming size C. nobilior. The seller explained that they had been working on the orchid for a while with bare root regeneration. It was doing well but then it fell and new growth broke off. The Catt now has new roots and new growth forming. I expect that it has been greatly setback. Do you have any specific environmental or cultural advice I should consider as I try to rehabilitate this new orchid?

    • @SVKLOrchids
      @SVKLOrchids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tough to say without knowing your exact conditions! Generally, I’d say grow them alongside your other Cattleyas but with slightly brighter conditions. Maybe a bit drier rest in winter than your other Catts.

    Hi. I’ve watch your videos. Thank you for the time you put into making them. How many hours of darkness do Walkeriana needs to trigger it to bloom and for how many months? Thank you

    • @SVKLOrchids
      @SVKLOrchids  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t know that those metrics have been quantified. Natural daylength changing through the year works wonders! Changing daylength under lights throughout the year to provide 10 hour winter days and 14 hour summer days works well also.

    Gorgeous blooms!
    Do you know off-hand if primary hybrids of walkeriana are also sensitive to nighttime light?
    I have a C. Love Knot that has been growing well for several years but has yet to bloom. Could the issue be living room lamps being on in the evening?

    • @SVKLOrchids
      @SVKLOrchids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s very possible that the night light aversion might transfer to progeny, though I am not aware of crosses that maintain that trait. My general recommendation for plants that don’t bloom is higher light intensity during the day. Does your plant get bright conditions?

    I recently just got a coerulescens x coerulea nobilior from Bela Vista, that's why I'm here rewatching your videos! The newest growth on mine is maturing right now, so when, could you say normally, one can expect to see nobilior spiking? Is it early winter? I'd love to know. Thank you!

    • @SVKLOrchids
      @SVKLOrchids  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the plant is mature and has a large root system, they usually start their bloom spikes from January to March and then bloom February to April. How large is the plant?
