Thanks everyone for watching! What's your favorite method for installing a harmonic balancer?

I replaced my front cover gasket on my 302 in my Mustang and I used the bolt to press the balancer back on. It went on fairly easily.

I'd rather use the installation tool.... because beating it with a hammer will do internal damage to the engine.

Great video man. Well done. My son and I are putting together a small block for our C10. Much better than beating it on! This was perfect. Thanks!

Just want to say thanks for these vids. I had to pull my drivetrain out of my 72 C10 for a leaking freeze plug behind the flywheel, these vids are making it easy to put things back together correctly.

Knew a guy that tried to get the balancer on a sbc 283 with the balancer bolt and striped the threads he ended up haveing to pull the crankshaft and bring it in the shop to have us rethread it the cost was way more than just buying the tool. Great video. Perhaps a few dumb newbie questions: 1) when you put the new balancer on, will the "0" mark on this balancer exactly "meet" the Timing tab arrow mark? 2) If is does not align up, what should I do, because if I now find true TDC, will I have to mark it on the new balancer and therefore, "ruin" that neat "degrees ruler" on the new balancer? Thanks

Working on a big block I replaced my Harmonic balancer with a Summit Racing® Bracket Racer SFI, and when installing it when it seemed to be at the end, and then the tool backed it self out. Everything I have looked at, this does not happen. They Show it getting to the point were you can not turn it any further and you know your done. Any ideas, thank you for any help.

it either isn't seated all the way or its a completely different height than your old balancer.
did you happen to lay them side by side on your work bench and visually compare them BEFORE installing it?

if you have the funds and are going higher horsepower buy new,if its a refresh and the old one looks ok
and you just cruise then go with the old one, just examine it closely first for damage or excessive wear.

Why doesn't anyone ever finish the job. I have watched a ton of clips where they all show how to get the pulley on but not finish the install with the crankshaft bolt. How to stop the engine from turning so you can tighten the bolt to its torque spec?

  • @adriankerri890

Definitely pressing on with a tool the hammer and wood is caveman style and you risk damaging the crankshaft.
