Hes, a great review, as always. I, like you, am not a huge runner, but I wear running shoes 100% of the time for walking and everyday wear. Plenty of channels are out there for running, so thank you for what you do. I have a somewhat narrow foot with an arch, and I didn't get along with the Clifton 8's; the arch would protrude into my foot and make them uncomfortable. The Clifton 9's have changed it a little, and the arch no longer protrudes into my foot. To me, they are way more comfortable than the 8's. Because I need a little stability, as the super cushions tend to cause me hip pain, the Clifton 9 gives me the stability I need without going into full-on stability shoes like a Vongo or Kayano.

Just put my 50th mile in my last run with the Clifton 9’s and I’ve gotta say compared to my Clifton 8’s which I retired after about 250 miles, I’ve enjoyed every second better in every way or at least most ways than it’s predecessor. Only used as a recovery mind you, but no regret upgrading and spending the extra money while I had the chance to get the 8’s for $139 Canadian. At least that’s my opinion 😀

Really cool to see a review from casual wearers. I think many runners consider the 9s an improvement. They probably took some of the padding to reduce overall weight, which is more important to runners as many of them are sensitive even to a tenth of an ounce (not me, but I know runners who claim to be).
The look of the 8 is better in my opinion with the aggressive looking midsole.
Never had an 8 but may go back and try now. Love my 9s for running.

I am going to preface that I am NOT a runner. The only thing that I run to is the buffet. I have multiple pairs of the Clifton 8’s and Clifton 9’s and spend all day on my feet. I love them both but I do not feel a difference between the two except for the softer pull tab on the rear. If I could find more color ways of the Clifton 8’s I do not feel like I would buy another pair of the 9’s.

I’ve been wearing the 8s for over a year now and recently got the 9s. I found round out the box the 9s had more room in the toe box. Strangely enough I found that the heel on the 9s felt softer but the overall feel was slightly firmer. Which I think might be a good thing for the Eva’s longevity the 8s after about 8 months seemed to of flattened down and compressed a lot so will be interesting to see what the 9s are like with the new eva compound over time

Around 3:12. What a silly things to say! Just because they did give their foam a funky sounding brand name you have a problem with the product? That makes no sense. You should evaluate the product for what it is atleast for the GR pairs like this. People don't care about the marketing or hype when it comes shoes like this.

I have flat feet too. The Hoka Arahi is supposed to be the stability version of the Clifton. My feet are also pretty wide so they didn't work for me when ibtried them on :/. Because of my flat feet and working 12+ hrs in the ER i got plantar fasciitis so they recommended i get the Hoka Bondi 8 (the Hoka Gaviota is the flat foot/stability equivalent). I wear insoles regardless but i love the Bondi's!! TLDR: any of those will probably work because even the Clifton and Bondi have inherent stabilty built in. If you can try them on you'll be good. Good luck

A key difference is the removable insole. th-cam.com/video/mJOX3Z61xp4/w-d-xo.html the new Foamwell compresses and flattens quickly versus Ortholite which almost never compresses over time. The trade off is weight but the loss of cushion is huge in the 9’s. This might explain your feelings about the two! I read that HOKA is using Foamwell to save weight. It’s a bad idea sadly.

I’m normally 8.5, but at the store I was at they told me I should wear a 9. The 9s in running shoes did feel good but I heard a 2e is pretty much like going half a size up but I’ve never tried it. I hope HOKA ONE ONE can do experiences with other midsole like TPU / e-TPU (energy return 80%) / PEBA (energy return 90%) / PEBA HG (energy return 95%). They greatest shoe is only Rocket X-2 (PEBA w/ Carbon Plate) as for my opinion. Various midsole of HOKA ONE ONE's shoes just sticking around EVA based foam. Sometimes they compact the EVA (become firmer & lighter) or only loosen up the EVA (becomer bouncy & heavier). They have a lot of beautiful colors in their shoes, yet would be better if they also change their midsole technology.

The problem with this review is you're not wearing these shoes for running. So when you review running shoes for their "squishy comfort" which you repeatedly say, you're doing the people a disservice. These are running shoes. So realistically the review is irrelevant unless you're run testing them.
