- JUST AS HOW I considered my latest Weevil, the 1992 Ford Laser 1.6 Hatchback, as the 'underdog' of the Laser range of that time, given that everyone and his brother wanted and lusted after the TX3 - of which I've had three - I've always been curious about the 'other' Satria's out there, seeing as how I've only ever owned the big-daddy of them all, the Satria GTi 1.8i.
So here we have a duplicate of one of those situations, a bona-fide Satria, but powered by a much smaller 1.3L MMC engine, albeit fuel-injected unlike my Laser, and matched with a 5-speed manual gearbox. That's the big selling-point here. Also, this car just happens to have a few tasty owner-upgrades, which I kinda like. It was obviously "enthusiast-owned" and that's always a plus point.
From what I can see, it just needs a proper paint-job, one outside-coat should do it tbh, and Ah Kei can easily handle that. Stay tuned folks!!

This video brings back so much memories.
I had a Satria 1.3 manual from year 2000 bought second hand in 2010, priced rm9.5k. It was my first car, only needed 2 doors as I was single and drove alone most of the time. Only occasionally my friends or my sister would hop in.
It didn't have much grunt or power. Would be eating dust at highways. But one thing it lacks, makes up for another....the sumptuous handling. I started to notice it's superb handling when I drove from Seremban to Kuala Klawang, and Seremban-Kuala Pilah on twisty mountain roads. While a lot of cars needed to apply brakes when approaching sharp corners, this car just glides. Never fails to carve a smile on my face at corners.
Maintenance was cheep and cheerful. Needless to say, it's a Proton. As a fan of originality, I kept it as original as possible.
As I got married and advanced in my career, I bought a Golf GTi auto in 2014 but I still kept the Satria in my stable...just to satisfy my crave for 3 pedals whenever I feel so.
The problem that I had is police roadblocks. My car didn't look racy as I kept it original, and never received any police tickets. But still, always 'kena tahan' at roadblocks just because it's a Satria driven by a young chap. You know, you already have the preconceived thoughts.
Sadly sold it in 2017 as I need to free up space in my stable.
Aww thanks a lot for that trip down memory lane bud, nice one!! Yeah, it only has about 80+ bhp stock, and that was in 2002, might be less now. But it's still a fun car to drive that's for sure, cheap to maintain too as u said, hahaha! Looking forward to driving it more 🙏🏽😊

My father used to own a 1.3 manual Satria back in 2000 for a very short time. Sold it later for a Waja.
I used to sit on top the centre console, (yes I know it's not safe 😂) but from there I learned what are indicators for, how to turn on the wiper, what are the three pedals for, all by watching my dad's driving. Back then there are no device for kids to watch didi and friend or such, so watching my father driving is an entertainment for me.
I did not remember this, but my mum told me I was the one who taught her when handbrakes are on, the car cannot move anywhere when she was afraid if my dad park the car on the steep hill it will roll downwards haha

Hi Chris, i'm getting a Satria 1.3M 2002 as second car as well! Not planned to buy at first but after see the car condition, i straightly pay 5.8k for it. It got original 30k mileage (no change meter), the steering still original with not even a crack on it. All standard original, with the paint still in good condition & sticker body still intact! Even this car already 20 years old, the condition is like 4-5 years age only. The only lack is not original sport rim. Seriously I feel like hitting the jackpot!

I owned an Electric Blue 1.6 manual (UK export facelifted version). Loved the design and colour. Engine and aircon were flawless. But built quality (inconsistent panel gaps, leaks at hatch area, rear lamp wiring issues, etc) spoiled the excitement of owning the car when it was new. But still loved the car and kept it in immaculate (and stock) condition for almost 11 years before selling it. And got a very good price too!

Those leaks im the hatch and rear rkae lights issues are easily fixed bro. Been there 🤭🤭... You might wanna checkout my video on the 'back side' leaks... As for the brkae lights, one just needs to replace the connector at the bottom of the bulb holder...

My dad bought me 2002 Satria 1.3 manual as well last year as my first car to bring to college ... quite happy with the car...and the meter is very common to fail... my meter is with rpm and the only thing works is the temperature and fuel gauge...lol

u can tell the car is taken care of pretty good..alrdy came with wira se meter cluster and gear console trim..doortrim probably custom wrapped 1.6 one with recaro fabric..bcos i think putra doortrim have lot lighter color tone.. and do u know that carbon fiber panel cost quite a lot too..around 300 per set excluding the cup holder..and seeing the engine is in great running condition, this is a great find

@@asnawihamzah6663 go for it bro. There's a lot to choose from. 1. 3 manual is enough to get you around. Go for the recent one from the 2002 onwards, the one with fuel injected engine. If you're looking for automatic, there's also 1.5 auto from 2002 or 2003... There's even a special 1.5 auto in gti's disguise! However, I'd recommend that you go for 1.6 manual... Power and handling is much much much better than 1.3 and 1.5... Note that like satria gti, all 1.6 models come with the rear stabiliser bar which is missing from 1.3 and 1.5 variants... And of course if your parents are generous enough, go for satria gti... 😁

I used to drive my dad's and I did the whole mirage kits... and yes if u had the old satria u didnt get the tachometer.. but i think that is the SE version (remember the always yellow with bodykits around?) the giveaway was the red gearbox cover and the red tachometer.. original Proton.. a used Satria 1.3 was a favourite among the modify kaki to have the 1.6 mivec on.. huhuhuhu.. uni days was good...

i got the same car 4g13 is great on everything, like roadtax, maintenance and etc. The only things is not safety, no airbag, abs, tcs and other electronic stuff. It is fun to drive, but underpower can't really overtake XD

@@xxkazu78 this was running on stock suspension, which was adequate given the 1.3L wasn't really punchy enough to get into trouble with, haha 😄
@@ChrisWeevilGarage Ah, no wonder it seemed so smooth! I didn't go coilovers. Instead installed ultrarace front strut, and noticed a difference in stability even with stock

Bro try to knock the meter near the temperature gauge.. Some time if it is intermittent it will work.. My satria is like that after knock it will function..

How to solve a temperature meter that is not working?
Check the wiring behind, or replace it, easy. Troublesome part is only removing the instrument cluster 😉
Another way is stick out your tongue to see if hot or cold. Then u know the temperature 😆😁😁
