I gig with either a cover band playing top 40 pop music or a small jazz group playing real book standards and I set up my pedal board the same way Kris does by having multiple amounts of gain on tap and a few basic effects to go along. This way I try to get in the ballpark of the sound for each song I play while still having my own sound.
Very cool upload Kris. I don’t play with a lot of gain, so the covers I know I just get as close as possible, while keeping also close enough to my comfort tone.
I really appreciate it! Most songs sound great with less gain actually. You have the dynamics on your side when using less overdrive which can even make a song sound more powerful when needed. 💪 //Kris
Awesome video Kris 👍 Great idea breaking down which pedals were used for each part of the song and how you don't need many pedals to get some great sounds. Thanks 😀
Kris, How are you my good friend. You hit the nail right on the head commenting on playing famous bands music but with your own playing style as only you can do but make it fit. I've always been a huge fan of Journey as in the original band. Know the bands equipment and settings you are covering. Always a huge fan of your guitar abilities. Always enjoy seeing the Tele with the star and construction cone. I will always choose a Les Paul for Journey. Great job Kris!
Thanks a lot! Les Paul for Journey is a great choice. I would've done that too if I wasn't playing the other song too on that jam session. Tele is middle ground, works for everything so I went for that, haha! Cheers //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Kris, You definitely made a great choice with the Tele. It's one work horses of all genres of music. Glad to see you're putting your talent to use in a band.
Thanks man, me too! Great sound and features, one of the best amps for pedals and the price is really good for being a Canadian hand-made product. 👌 Cheers //Kris
That's the thing, not a lot. Actually I played a couple of Top 40 shows as a substitute with literally just my strat, a TS808 and my Mesa Boogie Mark III. I haven't even used the clean channel once. 😆 Volume rolled back on the guitar for clean, done. I got compliments from the FOH guy, the band and the audience. Go figure. Haha! //Kris
Ops ... 1st mistake in ~second sentence : You can say to use the right guitar: a Tele shaped object Teles go from Roy Buchanan .... to ... Slipknot 👍 BUT you made up for it: Yourney / Neil Schon on a Tele .... that was great
Haha, thanks man! Yeah you know me, tele is my thing. 🙌 There are situations though where I'd go for something else. I know, blasphemy, haha! Still. 😉 Cheers //Kris
Just get a Jupiter effects Titan with a pair of 412 cabs and dime it, let the FOH guy figure it out. Maybe double or triple your hearing protection for this. Try it you’ll like it, if you survive!
Haven't even thought of that but you're right. 😅 This setting is just incredible on Klon style pedals. Literally always works and fits all kinds of rigs / music styles. //Kris
Great job with the Journey song. Enjoyed your tone & playing.
I really appreciate that Michael! 🙏 //Kris
Great way of putting it! Be yourself musically. You will always sound like you, even if you're trying to sound like someone else. Great video.
Thanks Curt, yeah that's the thing. Be yourself and make it sound great for the song. No need to overthink it. Cheers //Kris
Very nice Yourney cover 👍
Thanks so much Matze!!! //Kris
Can we get a separate channel for bass? I was subscribed for the bass. But we rarely get bass videos. Also I would like to see this concept for bass

1 aspect not mentioned is of course the size of the stage...
😄 not regarded by many! You often see Halfstacks in smaller clubs

Thanks so much! Yeah I figured these little things might be interesting or even useful. Cheers //Kris

That's great content!
I was always wondering how much sounds I would really need if I'd play live...apparently not that many.
Thanks mate 👋

@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Nice to hear you giving the real shit. When I was active as gig bassist, I just brought a tuner and Sansamp Bass Driver DI.
