Thank you for this video. I am in highschool and my dream job is to become an architect. I love designing and making floor plans and blueprints, but math is not my best subject. This makes me feel much better.
Hi may i ask which grade youre in now you might probably have more knowledge about this than me. Im supposed to be choosing my subjects this year and im really confused on if i need to take additional maths, im taking physics and chemistry but i really dont want to take add maths as i suck at it. But im very confused do i have to take it? Please i really hope you reply
One thing I learned in high school that has stuck with me to this day would be that; Nothing is ever actually “hard to do” in life. It’s all about who is teaching you. A great teacher is what makes you love the things that seem unknown or difficult.
Yeah I definitely do agree, however when teachers are tough you have to be able to learn your self. I had both experiences and yes it is easier when having a good teacher, and the 'bad' teacher I had to learn a lot my self to have the same out come. This doesnt mean you are better or worse of for either. You have to be able to learn your self and never depend of people as you will always be disappointed.
Well, my problam is that I *am* completely incapable of math. I am not even overreacting, didn't need to do math in any of my final exams and failed math class in my whole 8-12(?) years of school. And this is not because of laziness, I just don't get it. And I cannot learn it. My parents tried to help me with special math disability therapy, which lasted for 4 years and did not yield any result. I hate math and avoid using it. But I really find architecture interesting. Now I am studying Political science and philosophy and I am not sure if I will even last until the bachelors exam.
Im planning to enter archicture, not because Im good at math, but I really want to design houses, furnitures. So i hope this video will motivate me, even it takes 4-5 years of learning.
Good to know there will be someone else joining us :) well architecture opens many door for further studies, and architecture is alla bout houses and spaces around houses and the peoples experiance and furniture :) so you should be just fine, if you have any questions just let me know :)
So Iam here again, like i said i dont like math but, designing house etc. Really push me to enter architecture, I think architecture is really not that hard right?
I'm an artist and finishing school, really confused on what to study for but architecture has always been something that is just soo cool to me, i just happen to suck at trigonometry and calculus.
Architecture is the combination of arts, science and math. Those words are overused as an indicator of greater knowledge because everyone knows how hard to master these. Good for us we live in the 21st century and we don't need to list everything.
for me, I was looking for a video to inspire me of using precalculus in a project, but this video is really inspiring to study architecture not just precalculus
I would now say I’m bad at math or physic, I’m just average at both of them because I love doing equation but when it comes to trigonometry I absolutely suck so I was worried should I enrolled in architecture or not but after your explanation I feel like I can do it and thank you your video help me a lot.
This cleared up so many questions. Thanks so much! I used to be terrified by calculus, but I've made it my goal to conquer that fear. You're right, you have to convince yourself that you can overcome the challenge, and believe in yourself. Also, those details are so... detailed 😅. Really impressive work. Can't wait for the next video!
You are welcome!! Of course you can overcome it. You can do anything!! You are MATT!! Say that with a power pose and you will never have fear of calculus again xD hehhheheheh I know I can't stop looking at them... Thank you so much!!

I really liked this video because I don't like math and I'm joining on line course for architecture and your video reached me on time it motivated me a lot thank you
thank you for this. im pretty good at drawing, im also interested in architectural design, but im not the best at math and physics... im planning to take architecture major soon :')
but when it comes to parametric design and some of the biomimicry architectural design definitely they do need a know how of the math and some algorithmic definitions for their computation except that knowing some math can help in the work of structural design of the building from the beginning since we are the one(architect) who decide the building life and its form shape in return that affect the structural system of it and bottom line is knowing some math won't do us any harm .
Could you roughly list a few mathematical concepts that one should quickly revise before going to university? I'm going over the following topics, let me know if these are definitely things essential as basics for architecture: *Calculating area, volume, circumference, angles of shapes, percentages, fractions, decimals, proportions and scaling/dimensions.* These are the basics that I am trying to go over for this week. Someone mentioned "U-Values" in the comments, so I'm adding that to my list, too. What else should I add, do you think? Are there other concepts that are quintessential for the architecture that I am missing? Some basic formulas that I should remember (besides the Room Index one provided).
My name is Barry Allen. I am the fastest man alive, When I was 11, my mother was murdered. I saw a ball of lightning. Inside the lightning there was a man. He killed my mom. What happened that night was impossible. Then an accident made me the impossible.

It is important that you can get your idea from your head onto paper now that can be a drawing and SketchUp model a clay model you can do many things, there are plenty of architects who cannot draw at all one of them is LeCorbusier. It is however important that you can communicate your idea. In the first years on architecture study, they teach you how to draw and tbh there is so much out there to help you learn how to draw.
