Nevertheless, she is a goddess and she has been able to still pull it off over the years.
This is deemed one of the hardest female roles to play on Broadway because she's literally in every song but like 1. She is TIRED by the act 1 closing. she is amazing.
These videos are really important because they remind us that even the best performers out there make mistakes and have " off days " and thus we should all as upcoming performers go easy on ourselves sometimes. LBB is an absolute broadway goddess nevertheless.
3:04 def the best one. right on pitch throughout the whole thing and even through the crappy quality of the camera you can see how much energy she has. such a great performer
when i was playing elle, i realised when you’re really putting everything into the performance (as Laura did every single time she went on stage) the vocals can really suffer. i could nail this song during every rehearsal but when it came to performing, you have so much fun and are so focused on performing that you don’t have time to prepare yourself for *that* note. for her to perform the role this well and put this much energy into it AND keep the vocals at this level is so freaking impressive. mad respect.
There's a saying that a theatre director I have worked with for years has, and I'm sure he got it from elsewhere: Rehearse the way you'll perform and perform the way you rehearsed. Roles like Elle Woods are the reason this saying exist. You put as much as you can into your rehearsals and you won't have any issue once you get to performances.
Honestly only having one off key ain't too shabby, with how hard that note is I'm surprised it's not more. And who knows she might have been sick or something that day but seriously you go girl!
There are more out there, if you look up shows toward the end of her run, or when she went on as a temporary replacement in the national tour. By then they'd lowered the key half a step, but you can still hear a lot of strain in her voice, and she rushes through a lot of the notes (not just the last one). I wish they had written her a different ending or lowered the key earlier when it became apparent it was frying her voice. Or, idk, pre-record it like the Phantom note. I think it really took a toll on her.
I would like to take this early opportunity to say thank you so much! I live in croatia, a poor country with an economic crisis. I personally think the brilliance in her performance shines best not on that last prolonged note but rather on that angered-with-eagerness note in the third "I am so much betTER". on 2:13 Her emphasis non the beTTEEERRR note gives Elle Woods such a character turning point! Also ironically in terms of hat last note, her best attempt was at the SF tryout where her shoe flew off! P.s. she also was fierce in that in the alley performance
When I was doing a performance once, I did a spin and one of my shoes flew off and in the moment I remembered Laura throwing her other one off so I did that without missing a beat and I feel like I have her to thank for the quick improv reminder😂 Still one of my favorite memories in theatre

Laura has a beautiful tone on her voice, I heard people saying her accent is annoying but it's actually not! To me it sounds so cute, her belting is amazing. But there's one thing that won't fade on my head is during the Bend and Snap part where she literally did high kicks. Such a talented and energetic performer. 😍
I thought it was a little odd to put sharp and flat in some because it sounded (for the most part) fine to my ears. I only noticed it was sharp/flat because you said it was. But then I got to 2:51....oh Laura...
