If you can get a hold of the Beatles Anthology Series, it's The Beatles story told by The Beatles. George, Paul and Ringo reunite too, and recorded two new songs, Free as a Bird and Real Love. Like Get Back, it was a multimedia event: a three part TV Special, three double cd releases, and a book. The dvd boxset, as a bonus, features a jam session of the three surviving members at the time (around 1995). One of the greatest music docs ever.
Yoko was an actress and artist years before she met John . She has a book which is interesting . Not easy to get into , she has many albums and has written some good songs .

Ayo, mad respect for you bro. Regarding the Yoko thing; I also am a big fan of Yoko Ono. Weird ass old people having parasocial relations with a dead John Lennon is really all that is, honestly. The documentary was really nice, and I think most people would acknowledge that their parting stemmed mostly from the passing of their manager, Brian Epstein.
I agree with you completely about John and Yoko. (I've always admired her, too, despite the relentless antagonism she has been subjected to.) Countless factors on all sides contributed to the breakup of the band. Mostly, each band member's annoying traits now grated on the nerves of the others. No wonder! - They had been in the world's most intense pressure cooker together 24 hours a day for years on end, and they needed time apart. I think they would have recorded together in some form again were it not for the tragedy of John's death. They always loved each other. They were brothers. Thank you for expressing your opinion so well! I can't wait for this documentary, either :D
One more recommendation: Yoko's song "Walking On Thin Ice". John and Yoko were returning from the studio after working on this song when John was shot by that asshole. Great experimental dance-rock track.✌
I feel like most of us Beatles fans feel the same way about Yoko. There were a lot of factors that led to The Beatles’ breakup, including John wanting to spend more time with Yoko and his children. Yoko was made a scapegoat by people who didn’t know everything about the breakup, and I think sexism and racism might have played into that.
Yoko was in the way and everybody, especially the press, blamed her for the break up. It didn't help that Paul and George did say some ugly things about her at the time. But I think they felt jealous of her for taking their big brother away from them.
Yoko wasn’t The reason why they broke up, but she definitely didn’t help. There’s other audio where Paul says that when he talks to John he feels like he is just talking to Yoko and how he feels inhibited to write songs with him because of it. That ain’t going to help. Yoko also isn’t a very nice person- and that’s not racism- a nice person, for example, doesn’t make a son pay for his own letters to his father.

I've read so many books from different people involved and other outsider's junk that's just not true you can almost sift out the general truth from the BS. There were all kinds of problems business wise, [Allen Klein minlay, mixed in with the young Beatles' own business incompetency] bruised egos, personal and natural "growing out and up" from the Beatles, John actually announcing [months before McCartney did], in private he was quitting. It certainly wasn't Lennon's first wife Cynthia Lennon holding the group together all those years either. Boy, did she get the shaft. But Yoko forcing Julián to buy his father's stuff? I'm with you on Yoko. During the 1960s/70s you never came across this bad mouthing of Yoko, in spite of what she has said. Although it was not good how John's 1st marriage ended, you have to understand the effect of his early years. Also at the time John and Yoko symbolized a great healing, many of us being brought up in the shadow of world war 2 and here was a British guy getting together with a Japanese lady, a very positive statement at the time, very much The Beatles.
I would love to see reactions. I would recommend you listen to some more Beach Boys albums, like Sunflower or Surfs Up. Also watch the biopic on them "Love & Mercy".
A lot has been written about these recording sessions. The original Let It Be documentary that this film covers, sort of depicted the band as falling apart and the sessions as a miserable experience for all involved. A lot of music historians point to these sessions as the breaking point of the group, with Paul becoming overbearing in his attempts to keep the group together, John appearing very much aloof and uninterested in the project as a whole, and ultimately George quitting because he felt his contributions were underappreciated and ignored by John and Paul. This new documentary shows a different side of those sessions, and could dispel a lot of the myths about what had ultimately occurred.
So looking forward to it being released. It just seemed like they were so under pressure to produce an album in such a short space of time. Who does that now. Then they are about to perform live, first time in 3 years - which mostbands these days would be in the position of. They were doing too many things at once. It would blow anyone apart. These days, they would just take 6 months off or just delegate everything to people they trust.

They gave themselves 3 weeks to learn to play ALL NEW material for a live concert AND an album (the original idea for the "Get Back" album was that the tracks would be live single takes as well), when they hadn't played for a live audience in 3 years, all while having the additional pressure of being filmed for the entire thing. That's a ton of pressure. They were the best, most tight live band around in their early days, and even through the very start of Beatlemania before they couldn't hear themselves play through the screaming. By this point however, they were totally a studio band use to having the luxury of overdubs and tracking each instrument separately. The Beatles should be applauded for pioneering the concept of the "rockumentary" in addition to everything else they pioneered, but the project effort shook the band to it's core, or at least that's what we've been told.

So the Yoko thing: Around the time after The Beatles broke up and John went his way with Yoko, there were many speculations on her impact on him. For one, he altered his artistic nature heavily. Whereas before Yoko, John was often seen as the witty jokester, afterwards, he took his art more seriously and built an ego off of it. This isn't a bad thing nor a good thing. There were positives and negatives from this change. But it raises the question of if he had not been enhanced in his artistic nature and ego, would he have been so bitter at the end of their career leading to him leaving the group. Yoko gets a lot of the blame for pulling John away from the band, which honestly isn't fair as no one else was there to witness it. But make no mistake, she was VERY problematic. You've heard Revolution 9. That was the music that John pumped out because of her and it became one of the most controversial songs in Rock history. Everyone in the band except John hated it and it has been given the reputation for the worst Beatles song ever many times. John then went with Yoko to release a collection of Experimental Avant-garde albums like Unfinished Music Vol. 1 & 2 and The Wedding Album, all of which were the same stuff that Revolution 9 was. Then there's the constant disruptions in the studio. The two felt the need to constantly have Yoko featured as a contributing musician, even though the band really weren't into it, and if you know anything about Yoko Ono, she is without a doubt one of the most unpleasant vocalists in music. The crown jewel of her problematic presence was her constant yelling and screaming. She did that either for singing or just to get John's attention. Listen to the recording of her constantly yelling John's name while he's doing an audio interview. It should be the first thing that pops up TH-cam when you type in something like Yoko Screaming In Studio. This is the stuff the band had to deal with.
yeah, i started to feel like the Yoko hate was rooted in something much deeper but was justified/disguised in saying she was the reason the beatles broke up but your explanation brings a perspective that i can understand. i think she was just a catalyst to the inevitable but i do have to agree with you on the fact that she had a very interesting approach to music. i appreciate your insight lol

That was her singing style and she was known to attempt to contribute vocals in the studio, most of which were just bad singing, and others were her screaming vocals. That was the key difference between Yoko and the other girlfriends and family members being in the studio. Yoko was the only one being pushed as a contributing artist.
Ok, first of all, they were all in their late twenties during this time. John and Ringo were 29, Paul was 28, and George was 27. Secondly, yes, Yoko did cause some tension in the studio, but that was not the reason for the break up. You are correct, they were grown men and they all decided to go their separate ways. And thirdly, The Beatles had nothing to do with the movie Sgt. Pepper, except for the music that was used. But other artists sang the songs, not The Beatles. I wouldn't waste my time watching it. Try watching "Magical Mystery Tour". That movie is one long acid trip, and the music is out of this world. Try it, you'll like it.
I saw the Sgt Pepper movie from the 1970's once on TV and I agree, it's premise is lame. Magical Mystery tour has it's flaws. Part of it was a weak storyline and it was almost entirely produced/directed by Paul, pushing the Beatles onward right after their managers death. they should have hired good writers and Richard Lester as director again. That said there are some great video set ups for the music. IMO They should have included the Hello Goodbye video at the end, and cut out some of the weakest scenes. I saw a brand new 35mm color print in a theater once, it was really more effective on the big screen, clear as a bell.

It’s got nothing to do with John Lennon being “grown up” enough to bring Yoko into the Beatles creative process. He should have been grown up enough to tell her he needs to go to work, love you, see you later. Is there a “bring your spouse to work day” I’m not aware of? I can’t imagine (pun intentional” having a deadline to meet, whether mine or my wife’s, and not respecting that boundary. She infused herself into the situation. Personally I can’t stand yoko. Sorry
It’s kind of amazing how prescient the Beatles were, because we’re still listening to the music 50 years later and it still feel fresh. Even the Beatles insightful comment that Paul had (4:05) kind of sums up why I hate some of the summaries of the Beatles, “it’s gonna be so comical, in 50 years time to say, ‘The Beatles broke up because Yoko sat on an amp’”. The the “Yoko broke up the Beatles” narrative is very simplistic and reductive for four very complex, talented, headstrong men and the equally complex women, too (Linda included). One of the most unique things about the bands that it felt like a band with four frontmen, not just a leader with three side men. I appreciate Peter Jackson in being honest and not hiding the tensions that were there, but noticing that the love, humor, and creativity still remained even until the end. I also feel that as a woman of color and a Beatles fan, it does seem like it’s a narrative that really paints the woman of color (Yoko) to be the divider of four white men always kind of rub me the wrong way with its racist and sexist connotations.
I don't blame Yoko at all. They were four extraordinarily close guys, who'd gone through stuff we can't even imagine, who were growing and changing and finding their own paths. They would have split anyway. Having said that, I think if John hadn't been murdered, they almost certainly would have got back together as The Beatles, not permanently, but when they felt like it.
Agreed. There is even an interview John did, in 1975 I believe, where he said a few of them discussed doing another studio album, but that they'd have to convince George.

Oh, if you want to see a complete documentary on the Beatles from their beginnings on, up until 1995, try and get "THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY" series. It's ;6 DVDs, was originally shown in 3 parts on National TV in 1995. The Beatles were involved with this, are interviewed as well as other people connected with them, old films, etc. There are LOTS of videos and DVDs available on the Beatles....to help you learn even more
You are right about their break up. They were together since they were 15 years old. They were becoming young men looking forward their own lives & families. Don't blame Yoko. They were a group of boys becoming men. That's all.
No one woman was ever going to split The Beatles up, the main split came from within. People must realize that these 4 guys were and still are the largest act in entertainment history and I very much doubt that we will ever see anything like it again. No one but these four guys knew the pressures of Beatlemania. George had two great quotes on The Beatles anthology series. " I always felt kind of bad for Elvis, he had no one that he could really share with what he was going through when he exploded, he was only one. With The Beatles there was 4 of us and though we couldn't grasp what was going on around us we had each other" the other one is "The fans payed with their screams and their money but The Beatles paid with their central nervous systems" What a thoughtful, lovely man George was, he always had great perspective. I miss him and John so very much. I saw The Beatles live in Pittsburgh in September, 1964 when I was six. One had too experience Beatlemania firsthand to truly appreciate it. Beatlemania was kind of barely controlled total chaos. I see from time to time people say about someone, they are or were like The Beatles. The latest one was back in like March when ESPN aired the 3 or 4 part Micheal Jordan series which was quite good. There was some schmuck sportswriter who had the nerve to say "I covered and traveled with Michael and people need too realize that it was like traveling with The Beatles" Get the Fu_k out of here. This man apparently never experienced The Beatles when they hit town. These were always like near riot situations when the fans found out what hotel they were staying at. I just got my new 50th anniversary remix of the Let It Be album released on the 15th and it sounds incredible, check it out. This was due out last September but delayed due to COVID. Can't wait for 11/25 now for the Disney 3 night, 6 hour event. ☮️✌️💕
i dont think the beatles necessarily loved yoko she was just kinda there but she was never the reason they broke up. the only reason i dont like her is the way she treated john's oldest son julian. which is a whole other story. luckily john's youngest, sean, and julian get along great!
A fact about the original 1970 movie is that it won the Oscar's for Best Adapted Soundtrack in 1971. The mood of the movie was kind of melancholy, and I see in this Get Back (2021) a totally different mood, more positive and exciting!
The Sgt Peppers movie was a horrible disfigurement of Beatles music covered by the Bee Gees and various others - turned into a stupid musical with basically zero involvement by the Beatles themselves. AVOID IT. Or react to it just to cringe.

and I like Yoko too. At the end of the day John was committed to her and deeply in love. It was his decision to have her around so much. But there were a lot of sexist and racist motives from the press the fueled a lot of the hatred towards her sadly

But it raises the question of if he had not been enhanced in his artistic nature and ego, would he have been so bitter at the end of their career leading to him leaving the group.
Yoko gets a lot of the blame for pulling John away from the band, which honestly isn't fair as no one else was there to witness it.
But make no mistake, she was VERY problematic.
You've heard Revolution 9. That was the music that John pumped out because of her and it became one of the most controversial songs in Rock history. Everyone in the band except John hated it and it has been given the reputation for the worst Beatles song ever many times. John then went with Yoko to release a collection of Experimental Avant-garde albums like Unfinished Music Vol. 1 & 2 and The Wedding Album, all of which were the same stuff that Revolution 9 was.
Then there's the constant disruptions in the studio. The two felt the need to constantly have Yoko featured as a contributing musician, even though the band really weren't into it, and if you know anything about Yoko Ono, she is without a doubt one of the most unpleasant vocalists in music. The crown jewel of her problematic presence was her constant yelling and screaming. She did that either for singing or just to get John's attention. Listen to the recording of her constantly yelling John's name while he's doing an audio interview. It should be the first thing that pops up TH-cam when you type in something like Yoko Screaming In Studio.
This is the stuff the band had to deal with.
yeah, i started to feel like the Yoko hate was rooted in something much deeper but was justified/disguised in saying she was the reason the beatles broke up but your explanation brings a perspective that i can understand. i think she was just a catalyst to the inevitable but i do have to agree with you on the fact that she had a very interesting approach to music. i appreciate your insight lol

Also, Linda Eastman's kid (the little blond girl goofing around with Ringo and John) was there and I would think that Paul's girlfriend and kid would be just as "problematic" and yet not a word from anybody.

That was her singing style and she was known to attempt to contribute vocals in the studio, most of which were just bad singing, and others were her screaming vocals. No, I'm not saying she was screaming everyday in the studio, but in the grand scheme of things, she did it too often.

That was the key difference between Yoko and the other girlfriends and family members being in the studio. Yoko was the only one being pushed as a contributing artist.

Ok, first of all, they were all in their late twenties during this time. John and Ringo were 29, Paul was 28, and George was 27. Secondly, yes, Yoko did cause some tension in the studio, but that was not the reason for the break up. You are correct, they were grown men and they all decided to go their separate ways. And thirdly, The Beatles had nothing to do with the movie Sgt. Pepper, except for the music that was used. But other artists sang the songs, not The Beatles. I wouldn't waste my time watching it. Try watching "Magical Mystery Tour". That movie is one long acid trip, and the music is out of this world. Try it, you'll like it.
I saw the Sgt Pepper movie from the 1970's once on TV and I agree, it's premise is lame. Magical Mystery tour has it's flaws. Part of it was a weak storyline and it was almost entirely produced/directed by Paul, pushing the Beatles onward right after their managers death. they should have hired good writers and Richard Lester as director again. That said there are some great video set ups for the music. IMO They should have included the Hello Goodbye video at the end, and cut out some of the weakest scenes. I saw a brand new 35mm color print in a theater once, it was really more effective on the big screen, clear as a bell.

It’s got nothing to do with John Lennon being “grown up” enough to bring Yoko into the Beatles creative process. He should have been grown up enough to tell her he needs to go to work, love you, see you later. Is there a “bring your spouse to work day” I’m not aware of? It’s kind of amazing how prescient the Beatles were, because we’re still listening to the music 50 years later and it still feel fresh. Even the Beatles insightful comment that Paul had (4:05) kind of sums up why I hate some of the summaries of the Beatles, “it’s gonna be so comical, in 50 years time to say, ‘The Beatles broke up because Yoko sat on an amp’”.
The the “Yoko broke up the Beatles” narrative is very simplistic and reductive for four very complex, talented, headstrong men and the equally complex women, too (Linda included). One of the most unique things about the bands that it felt like a band with four frontmen, not just a leader with three side men. I appreciate Peter Jackson in being honest and not hiding the tensions that were there, but noticing that the love, humor, and creativity still remained even until the end. I also feel that as a woman of color and a Beatles fan, it does seem like it’s a narrative that really paints the woman of color (Yoko) to be the divider of four white men always kind of rub me the wrong way with its racist and sexist connotations.
I don't blame Yoko at all. They were four extraordinarily close guys, who'd gone through stuff we can't even imagine, who were growing and changing and finding their own paths. They would have split anyway. Having said that, I think if John hadn't been murdered, they almost certainly would have got back together as The Beatles, not permanently, but when they felt like it.

Oh, if you want to see a complete documentary on the Beatles from their beginnings on, up until 1995, try and get "THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY" series. It's ;6 DVDs, was originally shown in 3 parts on National TV in 1995. The Beatles were involved with this, are interviewed as well as other people connected with them, old films, etc. There are LOTS of videos and DVDs available on the Beatles....to help you learn even more
You are right about their break up. They were together since they were 15 years old. They were becoming young men looking forward their own lives & families. Don't blame Yoko. They were a group of boys becoming men. That's all.

No one woman was ever going to split The Beatles up, the main split came from within. People must realize that these 4 guys were and still are the largest act in entertainment history and I very much doubt that we will ever see anything like it again. No one but these four guys knew the pressures of Beatlemania. George had two great quotes on The Beatles anthology series. " I always felt kind of bad for Elvis, he had no one that he could really share with what he was going through when he exploded, he was only one. With The Beatles there was 4 of us and though we couldn't grasp what was going on around us we had each other" the other one is "The fans payed with their screams and their money but The Beatles paid with their central nervous systems" What a thoughtful, lovely man George was, he always had great perspective. I miss him and John so very much. I saw The Beatles live in Pittsburgh in September, 1964 when I was six. One had too experience Beatlemania firsthand to truly appreciate it. Beatlemania was kind of barely controlled total chaos. I see from time to time people say about someone, they are or were like The Beatles. The latest one was back in like March when ESPN aired the 3 or 4 part Micheal Jordan series which was quite good. There was some schmuck sportswriter who had the nerve to say "I covered and traveled with Michael and people need too realize that it was like traveling with The Beatles" Get the Fu_k out of here. This man apparently never experienced The Beatles when they hit town. These were always like near riot situations when the fans found out what hotel they were staying at. I just got my new 50th anniversary remix of the Let It Be album released on the 15th and it sounds incredible, check it out. This was due out last September but delayed due to COVID. Can't wait for 11/25 now for the Disney 3 night, 6 hour event. ☮️✌️💕

A fact about the original 1970 movie is that it won the Oscar's for Best Adapted Soundtrack in 1971. The mood of the movie was kind of melancholy, and I see in this Get Back (2021) a totally different mood, more positive and exciting!

and I like Yoko too. At the end of the day John was committed to her and deeply in love. It was his decision to have her around so much. But there were a lot of sexist and racist motives from the press the fueled a lot of the hatred towards her sadly
