The saddest thing about Hendrix was that he was just getting started. Although he blew minds with his guitar playing, he was still finding his feet as an artist and songwriter by the time he died. We'll never fully comprehend his loss.
Right out of the gate he had his own voice, but the amount of growth he showed on 3 records recorded over just 18 months is astounding. Imagine if he'd had a 30 year career!
I really think you should review a classic album, at least, every month or more. I think that with your fanbase and your musical experience, you should expose them to more classic albums that shaped in a very strong way our culture, our ideas, our mentality and, most importantly, music in a broad way. Its the moment of the year that i praise your work the most. Keep up with the good work, Anthony. Have a Good year!
I would love this, obviously he has a ridiculous amount of albums to review that come out week-to-week.. but I personally wouldn't mind him cutting down a bit and spending time reviewing classic albums. Lots of technical, more classically minded guitar players. I once got into it with this technical metal dude who said Hendrix was really sloppy, which to me is like saying Van Gogh was sloppy compared to still life's. Like bro, you're totally missing the point
Yup, there's are people who absolutely don't understand his style and how innovative he was and these newer Metal dudes gotta realize they didn't have the modern technology, that's what made Hendrix so special is how unorthodox and beautifully gifted and not overly complex, but still complex he was with his riffs and solo's and of course his writing skills, his vocals, harmonies, choruses were immaculate as well!
Noel Redding only played bass on the following songs on this album: Crosstown Traffic. Burning Of The Midnight Lamp. Come On. Voodoo Child. Little Miss Strange. ANTHONY, my good friend. There’s a review i need in my life. THE WHO - Who’s next (my favourite album ever). The best songs Baba O’Reilly, Behind blue eyes, won’t get fooled again and bargain are truly magnificent
one of the great meta dynamics of classic week is that it seems like a subtle announcement of fantano's favorite album from a classic artist, considering that he doesn't do multiple classic reviews of each artist
My brother back the 70's use to play side 3 a lot when I was about 6 years old. Staring at the album cover while that whole side played all the way through. Starting out with "Rainy Day.." with Jimi coughing to the wind effect at the end "Moon Turn The Tides..." I've learned to really sincerely appreciate this whole double album as a whole as I got older. My favorite is "1983.." I can't think of a more thought out, imaginative piece of work that features so much brain work with the limited amount of technology that was available back in the day. Feedback with pitch control to make sounds like seagulls, a bell sound from a cymbal slowed down or backwards guitars to make it sound like it's underwater. Incredible...
Electric Ladyland is by far and wide my most favourite album of all time. It's one of those that I think every parent should play their child at some point to teach them about music.
I responded to a let’s argue tweet saying some of the mixes of this album aren’t great. I then deleted it because I realized how much live mixing needed to be done and with an album like this you’re gonna choose the magic captured in a studio performance over the quality of a live mix
It also doesn’t help that Jimi was insecure about his vocals, so he would usually bury his voice in the mix. But for me, songs like the title track and “House Burning Down” really show his capabilities as a singer.
He put some stuff out of phase, like 180 degrees out of phase. Vinyl can't reproduce that, so they had to mono some of it in the mastering stage. There was a later remastered version released on cd that was taken from the mix tapes. A lot of experimentation going on sometimes for better or worse from a fidelity perspective. It was very interesting and of it's time though. You certainly hear the human energy on this stuff in ways you don't hear very often in the age of "perfection" via auto-tune and quantization through digital editing.
I know for certain :Burning of the Midnight Lamp" and potentially another track was recorded at a studio in New York while they were on the road. Not with his typical dream team of Eddie Kramer.
Ayoooo!!! I love this so much!! Crazy you started with Hendrix cause i actually just got a are you experienced vinyl the other day and it's the big YES.
he was such a fucking legend, I wish I was alive when he was. i hope maybe one day I can meet him because he just seems so unreal man that man was a genius at what he did
And by all accounts he was a genuinely humble and nice guy. If I could meet anyone in the history of rock music, living or dead, I think it would be Jimi Hendrix.
My dad went to go see him when he was 17. He took acid and when Hendrix came out he blew everyone's already blown out minds on max. After the show my dad said he wasn't the same person that went I'm to that concert
I’m so glad you’re taking the time to show your general fan base some good fucking music for a change Anthony Fantano. Cheers. Truly, I’m so glad you made this video. Please do more classics!

He already reviewed the 50th anniversary remastered versions of the White Album and Abbey Road on the Fantano Channel. Maybe he could still do one of those two again or throw a curveball and review Sgt. Pepper
As much as I loved this album, "Moon, Turn the Tides....Gently Gently Away", "Still Raining, Still Dreaming", "Crosstown Traffic" and "Little Miss Strange" were and still my immediate favorites.

ANTHONY, my good friend. There’s a review i need in my life. THE WHO - Who’s next (my favourite album ever). The best songs Baba O’Reilly, Behind blue eyes, won’t get fooled again and bargain are truly magnificent
You should finally do a Beatles album after that Get Back documentary
Been waiting over 50 years for this review
one of the great meta dynamics of classic week is that it seems like a subtle announcement of fantano's favorite album from a classic artist, considering that he doesn't do multiple classic reviews of each artist
not necessarily, he did a classic review of ATLiens but has said Stankonia is his favourite Outkast project
he also may pick the more influential or significant album
@@nr-ke8qj die lit classic
Also thanks for doing classics weeks :) always a fun week of looking back on music I love or music I need to revisit
one of the most legendary and influential albums in the history of rock and roll. nobody will ever be able to argue that.
I have been waiting for this for so long.
The grittiness really helps though.
Always nice to see some Hendrix appreciation
Like what I'm hearing from this Jimmy character, excited to see more from him!
1983 will always be one of my favorite songs of all time
One of the all-time greats! This album will live with me till the end of my days. Jimi was a genius.
Probably one of the most perfect psychedelic albums ever made
one of the greatest albums ever
Facts! Nice pfp too lol
Thanks for this Anthony!
The fact that this came out in 1968 is fucking mindblowing
The fact that surprises you is mind blowing. When would have been more suitable?

C C. Got it
As a fan of classic rock, I love to see Anthony review stuff I actually know
I think one of the prime indicators of Hendrix’s talent is that he is STILL as popular as ever
Ayoooo!!! I love this so much!! Crazy you started with Hendrix cause i actually just got a are you experienced vinyl the other day and it's the big YES.
Just listened to this for the first time a few months ago and it was clear immediately how far ahead of its time this album is
would you say it's still far ahead? I'm a huge Hendrix fan and would say it is lightyears but I think that could be because of my bias haha
Thanks Antony, I love this record so much, you never fail to help me arrive at an even deeper and more intimate love for music.
he was such a fucking legend, I wish I was alive when he was. i hope maybe one day I can meet him because he just seems so unreal man that man was a genius at what he did
And by all accounts he was a genuinely humble and nice guy.
One of your best ever reviews, the passion you have for this album really showing.
It's absolutely insane that this guy was only 26 when he made this
I’m so glad you’re taking the time to show your general fan base some good fucking music for a change Anthony Fantano. Cheers. Truly, I’m so glad you made this video. Please do more classics!
He does Classics Week every year
1 of favorite tunes by this God of a man Jimmy Hendrixs wow
Suggestions
Pixies - Doolittle
Belle & Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Hüsker Du - Zen Arcade
The Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
Television - Marquee Moon
The Stooges - Fun House
Please let there be a Beatles album for classics week. That is all I ask for.
He already reviewed the 50th anniversary remastered versions of the White Album and Abbey Road on the Fantano Channel. Maybe he could still do one of those two again or throw a curveball and review Sgt. Pepper
@@videotapes9965 tbh, I’ll be happy with anything lol

My favorite album of all time. Solid, in-depth review man
This Jimi Hendrix guy sounds really talented. I hope he doesn’t have a short-lived career
pain
Same man, I really hope he doesnt die on September 18, 1970 at age 27
Too soon bro

Love this!! How do you get better than this record!! Every time I go back to it, it blows my mind all over again. Just amazing.
My first Hendrix album. Nothing ever came close. What an album! When track 2 started I knew I was in for a good time
tremendous review of my no 1 album of all time - your street cred has gone up massively reviewing this giant
Jimi is definitely one of the most guitar players that ever was
Give the irony a rest and go take a bike ride
But I have deficiency
He definitely made some the music
What do you smell, biggie?
@@PukiePie we all do mate
bro I was waiting for this for a long time and it didn't disappoint, loved the review.
One of my all time favorites. A masterpiece.
“Briny, reverb-drenched guitar leads” -fresh out a Nautilus transition. Very sùàvè Monsieur Feauntaneu!
electric larryland was better
As much as I loved this album, "Moon, Turn the Tides....Gently Gently Away", "Still Raining, Still Dreaming", "Crosstown Traffic" and "Little Miss Strange" were and still my immediate favorites.
I really wish you’d give these older albums scores just for the hell of it. I’m sure you have your reasons for not doing so but man it would be cool to see
It‘s a classic, it‘s a 10/10.

@Critique Everything yeah but that has literally nothing to do with what I said
My dad put me onto jimi hendrix when I was roughly 4 years old and hes been someone ive consistently listened to since. His music has a very special place in my heart and always will
HOLY SHIT THIS ALBUM IS SO GREAT
YES IVE BEEN BEGGING FOR A JIMI REVIEW FOR YEARS MELON
Listening to 1983 whilst high on shrooms was one of the most beautiful and amazing things I have ever experienced in my entire life.
Cal is back along with the Classic/Tens! Cant wait for the College Droupout Review Fantano. DO IT NOW PLEASE
I love playing guitar but no one ever will reach Jimis level. This guy was an Alien. The music of course is still amazing
This is a series that I will cherish for ever
As a guitarist , jimi hendrix is like Jesus christ to me, he changed guitar forever.
