- The Fundamentals of Caring follows Ben, a retired writer who becomes a caregiver after suffering a personal tragedy. After 6 weeks of training, Ben meets his first client, Trevor, a foul-mouthed 18-year-old with muscular dystrophy. One paralyzed emotionally, one paralyzed physically, Ben and Trevor take an impromptu road trip to all the places Trevor has become obsessed with while watching the local news, including their holy grail: the World's Deepest Pit. Along the way, they pick up a sassy runaway and a mother-to-be who help test the pair's survival skills outside of their calculated existence as they come to understand the importance of hope and true friendship.

I have to say, the best film I've watched this year, it literally made me shed a couple of tears (which doesn't happen often). It perfectly demonstrates the beauty of life, saying, no matter what circumstance you're given, it will all turn out great! A very lighthearted film, with some very comedic parts along with it, definitely worth a watch, 10/10 movie.
This movie was a roller coaster of emotions and they executed it perfectly to be that way. No movie has me smiling/laughing one second and on the verge of crying the next. Such a good movie.
yeah, i watched this movie when it came out with my ex. We watched 1000 movies but for some reason this one always has stuck with me. i still havnt gotten around to watching it again but it was very, very good.
what a romanticised, ignorant and privileged way to view the world. Newsflash: real life is not a movie and for many, many people experiencing systemic oppression and existing in marginalised identities, 'it doesn't all turn out great!'. Netflix 'feelgood' movies are not a reflection of reality that 'perfectly demonstrates the beauty of life'. There are good things that happen after traumatic events but no, certainly not 'no matter what circumstances you're given'.

I'm a father of a special needs son who passed last year. This movie has given me the joy I once had and thought I had lost forever. Thank you so much Paul Rudd, Selena Gomez and Netflix for giving me the chance to smile and laugh again. Awesome movie!

I was smiling all throughout the movie, it's just that wholesome and heartwarming. I can't remember the last time I felt such emotion towards a movie. Casting was on point, too! Everyone portrayed their characters perfectly. Man I wish I had seen this movie earlier, but I guess it's still better than never. Just watch it, it's really worth it.

The lesson I've learned from this. When we face a brokenheart or a break up or a depression, it's not the case to stop from doing something. That's not an excuse to be done or to give up. The best healing section is to care. To care people who is more disable than you. To discover another love that may exist in the little thing. 💜💜💜💜💜💜

Agree. Hope she starts to focus on acting more. I heard her say back then she wanted to take a break from music and work on acting, but I'm not sure why she didn't go through with that? She would be phenomenal if she kept pursuing acting and I hope she does in the near future.
bc acting is really tiring, and she was sick
it's hard for her to get roles. directors don't take her seriously... she had to audition 3 times just to get this role (Dot) and she wasn't a main character.

I still don't understand how Selena got through the last scene of this movie ! I was freezing & I had on way more clothes than she did ! They were all such a great cast & so down to Earth. Since then I've worked with Selena on two more movies & she's always the sweetest girl ever ! I honestly know a lot of women whom aren't famous that are WAY more stuck up. Lena is honestly one of the nicest people ever met.
My brothers had this exact disease. The oldest died in 1984 at 22 (I was 25) just after he graduated college. He was every bit as funny as Trevor and he would have LOVED this movie.

Such a worth-while movie. Craig Roberts and Paul Rudd played their roles with tact and humor. Gomez played her part well, though her fan base probably didn't hurt her chances at getting this role.

How I have never heard of this movie completely escape me. That being said, if you aren't a blithering, tissue soaking, idiot by the end, you don't have a soul. An absolute must watch.
Just watched this film, the story has quite a few clichés, it was quite predictable to some extent as I was watching. However only to "some extent" - not too much, not too little, just perfect. That was no abrupt ups and downs in tensions, which I personally prefer and feel comfortable. What I really loved besides these is the visual art of this film, the aesthetics. If you are one of those indie films lovers, this should be on your must watch list. Everything about this film was normal and predictable, but ironically those normal and predictable elements came together and made this film super unique and special. What a masterpiece!!

Appreciated the movie. Aspect in the safety of American workers is different to here in Australia, ie lifting of clients. Yet appreciated many aspects of this movie, especially the dignity aspect.

Would have really wanted to go see this, but the trailer showed me the film in its entirety so i guess i can save a hot $11.
It's on Netlfix so if you have a subscription then it wouldn't cost u anything
or if your friend has a netflix then it wont cost u that monthly fee ether

One of my favorite movies! I feel like the trailer doesn't come close to doing it justice, and honestly kind of misrepresents it. This movie is rapid-fire funny, with characters that you just fall in love with.

I just realised that's Rio Wellard from Tracy Beaker. Also, this film really showed me that Paul Rudd is definitely one of my favourite actors of all time. He's incredibly talented. Selena basically plays Alex Russo again in this film, it was so entertaining.

Honestly, I thought this was gonna be a very bad movie. I usually like movies such as Kubrick's work and films like Taxi Driver. I was blown away by this movie (especially compared to my expectancy). While I know, it might be a little cheesy or cliché from time to time, I really enjoyed this movie. Even so, that I watched it twice. 8/10
