To Tim's point near the end about his security door, I would love a video from ASP on best ways to secure the house. Cameras and Security from door but what would you guys recommend for sliding glass doors? We have 2 in our house, 1 to the kitchen and 1 directly to our bedroom which I HATE but would be curious if you have any suggestions.

My best thought on that would be sufficient cameras as early warning systems coupled with glass break sensors.

You can start with security film that will make the glass highly shatter resistant to buy you time. There are likely companies in your area that can install it as most jewelry stores have that film on their windows. There are ways to secure the doors in their tracks better.

I really like Tim's girl scout cookie analogy, it's really helped me convey the point of Castle Doctrine to a lot of my friends.
And I feel like a Home Security System is something that way too many people overlook when they plan for home protection. Especially if you don't have a dog, you won't have any system to alert you someone else is inside your house. In the dead of night you're probably passed out cold asleep, the home security system is what gives you the alarm warning that someone broke in. Without that alert, you're useless when you wake up to a bad person standing over you.

What is not talked about is the aftermath… when you take another person’s life, it is something you will live with for the rest of your life. And, it will forever change you. Regardless of how justified you were.

Exodus 22 has a bit of a lesson on this. “If a thief breaks in and is struck so he dies there is not blood guiltiness. BUT if the sun has risen on him then there shall be restitution on his account.” I’ve interpreted it as a night you can make no assumptions on his intentions however when his intentions have been brought to light you only need to act accordingly.

22:2 in particular. I think it has less to do with the time of day, and more to do with in the moment of attack vs if he is fleeing. (the Bible is actually my specialty...I have a masters degree in it!)

I was always taught:
There has to be a “threat” and the threat has to have the opportunity, ability and intent to inflict death or serious bodily injury AND! You still have to be reasonable

@@deebee4575 you’re given a lot of presumption when it comes to self defense inside your home, however you still have to be reasonable and there is forensic evidence that will show if you weren’t
For instance the whole “if you shoot em outside drag em inside” forensics will show you did that and you’ll be prosecuted for it
If you decided to mag dump on the perp it could be seen as unreasonable and you could be prosecuted for that
No matter where you live the self defense standards are all very similar with the reasonableness standard
