    Well done, Adam! Your first video is a success (in my opinion), good sound, clear explanations, good editing, careful not to make it too long (that's just a little constructive criticism)... as Steve writes, there are so many bad videos here, but you did well! I look forward to more with hopefully also some hands on and how to videos!

      Hi Michele, thanks for your kind feedback. I am looking forward to making the hands-on videos now I got over the hurdle of making my first!

    Nice video. For what it’s worth (some 4 years later), I too struggled with the 2.3mm eyepiece in this set. Even with a 10” dob. I can’t imagine what kind of telescope one needs to make that thing worthwhile. I think it’s just too much magnification. But hearing that you liked the other two leads me to think I shouldn’t discount the whole series.

    Thanks for the great review. I myself have been contemplating on purchasing the 7mm X-Cel for my 6" SCT scope. I'm also looking at a TMB Planetary II 7mm eyepiece as well, since the TMB eyepiece is 2/3 the price of the X-cel. But, after watching your review, I believe I will go with the X-Cel. Thank You, keep up the great videos.

    Well done! I thought you were kidding when you first said 2.3 mm - I can’t imagine using that on my 12” dob! Looking forward to more from your new channel!

      Thanks Richard - 2.3mm is definitely extreme! I'm looking forward to producing more vids... but slowed down due to coronavirus.

    Nice work.
    I suspect that kits include an insanely overpowering eyepiece to lure beginners who think that power is everything. Kits in general can be tricky at best so you took on a tough topic.
    Even though they often get a bad rap if the manufacturer is heavily discounting one with purchase of a scope I say go for it.
    Perhaps another good topic would be the modern rival of the old eyepiece kits, the new and greatly improved zoom eyepieces. It started with the Baader but like everything else lower cost units are now winning favor with users. I intend to purchase one with my getting back into the hobby scope coming soon. I'm trying to keep setup as light and simple as possible.
    BTW, a 6 inch newtonian is one of the scopes I'm considering. I would not worry about more aperture too much if I were you. Have been there and all that extra aperture saw a lot of my garage then a new owner. If I can't carry out everything easily in one trip I'm out. Plus I think one of the biggest advantages of the newtonian is that they take modifications like a sponge does water. Tube flocking, curved or undersized secondary, refigured or enhanced coatings, cooling fans and vent holes just for starters. If you take your time and get all of this right you can end up with an instrument equal to or even superior to a telescope costing thousands many times over.
    Liked and subbed.

      Great piece of feedback! Apologies my reply has taken so long. I couldn't agree more that the best sized telescope is the one you take outside with you... my young boys love the cheap AstroMaster we've got, which is why it gets a lot of airtime compared to my (much better) Newtonian.

    I have the 5mm and I absolutely love it, main issue is that it doesn’t fit in most dslr t ring adapters and other camera taking adapters which sucks

  • @SteveBlethyn

    Good first effort, better than some I've seen that have been doing it for years. Great review, I find smaller mm lenses way too beefy for my Skywatcher Startravel 102 and the Celestron AstroMaster 114EQ Newtonian. 12.5mm Plossl is about as small as I go. Now all I need are some of those clouds to 'do one' so I can focus on the Orionid's :)
    Got any tips on recording gear for someone who needs to go down the TH-cam route?

      Hi Steve, thanks for the kind feedback it's really appreciated! I found a lot of TH-camrs recommending the Canon EOS M50, so that's the route I went down. Good luck with your TH-cam!

    Hi interesting video thanks, I own a few Celestron eye pieces. I agree the 2.3 would be too dark, the smallest I have is the 5mm and I dont use that too often. I do have that Barlow though and have found it to be at its best with my 25mm Skywatcher 1.25 eyepiece. I dont get much light loss but get a pretty decent usable magnification similar to dropping in my 12mm on its own but more light.

    It's a pretty expensive barlow lens ($180 - $200 AUD) is there anything better for that price? The 7mm looks fantastic though, looks comfortable. My stock 13mm is a neck breaking pinhole.

    only barlow i used in my 10" SW was the ES focal extender....brilliant and very forgiving

  • @charlessands6933
    @charlessands6933 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What the hell is it piece of kit? 😁 Also, since he didn't tell us what the focal length of the telescope was, I don't know if the Barlow didn't give good views because he was using too much power - which is what I suspect - or because the barlow didn't perform well. This is important information.. otherwise it was a good a video that was easy to understand and follow.

    • @michaelaldan4354
      @michaelaldan4354 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if the barlow didnt perform well then the eyepiece choice was wrong...i hope he didnt put the 2.3mm in the barlow....hell i wouldnt even put a 2.3mm in the focuser by itself

    • @michaelaldan4354
      @michaelaldan4354 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      maybe in a 14" scope yea....not in a 6"

    • @Ajajambo
      @Ajajambo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair point, aperture and F ratio is the deciding factor of what ep FL to use. Fast scope with a 6" Mirror better stick to 150x to 220x Max providing the seeing is steady enough. You do the maths 😉

    These are over priced in the UK, like their Luminous range. The 25mm xcel-lx is a very nice eyepiece in an ST80, i prefer it over my ES Maxvision 24mm 68degree because the 25mm feels more like a binocular view but at the prices celestron have started charging for these in the UK, you are better off buying from ES or Baader. Celestron are going to price themselves out of the market at the current prices.

  • @whitetiana3022
    @whitetiana3022 ปีที่แล้ว

    you say you have a 6". i'm going go ahead and assume you have a focal length of 1200?
    cause that's kinda important when talking about eyepieces.

  • @Ajajambo
    @Ajajambo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Who uses a 2.3mm in the UK? Unheard of unless you have a 10/10 seeing condition and before even letting a 2.3mm in the collection, telescope focal length and aperture must be taken in to consideration before wasting money. If your 6" is an F5 then your max mag is 300 which is almost impossible to achieve in the UK unless you have a 12" Scope & top notch steady atmosphere. The other ep you have will do a find job in your scope if you keep it to 150x to 200x mag. Cheers
