Folks seemed to be prepared in advance to pan the film but everything but the last 15 minutes was EXCELLENT!! You brought in a number of factors others were either reluctant to or not knowledgeable enough to approach. Cast was great!! Will watch it again and it’s #1 on Netflix. 🙌🏾
Thorough review I wished they wouldve explored the dynamic between mother and daughter like I wonder if she was a prositute it was alluded to that her mom pimped her out but they didnt explain that fully or her record just showed the outcome of it all. I think showing that wouldve made her character more well rounded made the script make more sense and help the third act. The delieverance couldve been the daughter letting go past trauma and hurt those demons inside of her and not an actual demon literally. It couldve also been more alluded too that she actually was abusive and the one abusing her kids out of a cycle of unhealed truama
I just watched this and I must say the actresses all kick ass. But the problem is the 3rd act. What I love about this movie is how real it was. The mother and grandmother are problematic and straight up! This movie falls flat as horror film. It should have been a family drama because as a huge horror fan, I prefer the non horror first part of the movie.
I was shocked at how much the melodrama works better than the horror. I think the building of scares were good but the final act doesn’t know how to do the exorcism stuff. Still, I found myself caring cause they tried beforehand
Same. I just watched it and loved it. The slow pavement and drama, with some horror thrown in it reminds me of a different outlook from Hereditary which is also one of my favorites.

@@yomomma7205 That's right. I forgot even Heredity didn't play as a horror... at first. That movie was good too.
So happy to hear that Mo'Nique is getting film roles again, seems like she was blacklisted for a while. Can’t wait to make a it a movie night. Thanks for your detailed review.
@@FlickeringMythMo'nique barely has a role though. She was strong every moment on screen as usual. But in the end her character is really wasted potential.
This was based on a true story so I don’t understand why people want something different than what it is. This movie was great in my opinion. As a believer in GOD I can tell you that these things happen more than you know. Give yourselves to GOD while you still can. Amen. 🙏🏿
The movie was undeniably entertaining, however it was all over the place😂😂 The movie was two hours long and never showed us why the family had so many issues. The case worker offered an exposition dump about the kid's father claiming the mom abused substances, yet the only time we saw her have a drink was once at a bar and once at a party. By those standards I'm a wayward drunkard!😂 The only time she was vlolent was when she kicked the neighborhood bully. And if they were so impoverished, why would would the script have her paying medical bills out-of-pocket, renting a huge house, and raising 3 kids alone. That literally is not possible in poverty. And they also claimed the grandmother helped with bills and childcare. It was so inconsistent! Everybody was just miserable for no reason and the raycial issues were so trivial and came from nowhere. The As!an micro aggression, the nappee 😺 comment from the demon. And Glenn Close was wasted all she offered was a shock factor of being bald with a bat, wearing clothes from Cititrendz, having synthetic wigs, sewing hair extensions onto her daughters head in the living room. Lastly, I have to say the strangest part of it all was that their lives were all crappy until the demons brought the family together😂😂😂. Who makes the demon the protagonist??😂 I still don't know what the central conflict was😂 But I digress the movie was a good time
Like I know there’s plot holes and the story gets wacky, but the way I ignored all that just to be entertained for a bit. This wanted to do something and felt oddly authentic, even when Glenn Close is playing Ms Henry
@@FlickeringMyth Same! The house party scene with the karaoke and dice helped endear me to what i was watching and the movie overall is definitely a good time
Lol I felt the same way about a lot of the problems you had with the movie also. Some of the dynamics were great others just seemed off and over the top. Like I just felt like it had too much of a stereotypical, very ghetto vibe throughout the movie. I get that sometimes that to some people being very rude and crass is how black people behave, but I don't see it that way. We all aren't struggling, and we can be very culturally black without being overly ghetto, rude, and vulgar. But one thing I can say is I enjoyed the grandma character, that's a character I rarely have ever seen in movies. A ghetto white mother, I've seen plenty in real life but rarely have ever seen them as a character in movies. Overall it's an ok movie, but it definitely has plenty of flaws.
The start of the movie was good. The family dynamic, the drama, building tension, was all good. The possession part was cliche after cliche after cliche, and not done better than any of the many other possession movies that came before. The speaking of tongues part was kinda cringy, all of a sudden someone who had not been religious for so long speaks in tongues? The last third of this movie was all over the place, and kinda clunky in all they tried to cram in there. It was a good movie, but not great.
Your review was better than the movie. Title was a bit clickbait-y. Of course this is better than RECENT Insidious and Conjuring films, but your title suggests you're taking about the originals.

Lee Daniel’s knew what he wanted and is impactful-so true!!

Good review, you touched things other reviewers missed
Thanks! This one really seemed to speak to me. Not perfect but there’s far worse movies in this genre out there
@@FlickeringMythIt was a good review! I don't agree with you on some things but so what? A good review is a good review
I loved it. Yes as a horror it was light but still good. As a family drama is where it really shines. But i enjoy all of it.
Glad ya liked it!

Mo’Nique really fought for this comeback! Her Shannon Sharpe interview was great. She eats up this horror role

3:28 Oscar and a Razzie 😂😂
She did everything in this, good and bad.
Glenn was nominated for both awards for playing the grandma in Hillbilly Elegy, I guess this is her “Hood Elegy” 😂

I’m sorry your commentary is all over the place…not a complete thought was available…
The true story was better then the Movie !!! Cause the truth is better then fiction,
This movie was awesome. The 3rd act suffered a little, but overall it was really great.
How so?
Agree. Good movie.
This was a good cast but it was all over the place by the last part of the movie. Real or not, the second part was bad.
I think it def leaned into horror and Lee Daniels isn’t strong there. But he could conjure up good scares in that first half
