- Unboxing and setup Honda HRX217VKA
Here is the unboxing and setup of the Honda HRX217VKA lawn mower. I think I will keep learning more about the mower as I continue to use it. I figured out that the self propelled feature does not need to be fully engaged to work. You can control your speed and adjust by how hard you press the select drive with your thumbs. Everything went together smoothly and the lawn mower started on the first pull which is great.

That thing is the nascar of lawn mowers!! This is a really good demo video not only of this mower but of what to do when you first buy a lawn mower!! Next we need a demo of that gas can...in all my years on earth I've never had a gas can that didn't give me at least one drip on the lawn mower when I refilled it!!😂I didn't see one from your gas can!!🪱🪱🪱
Thanks Patrick! I tried to show everything that I would want to see. That gas can is a trooper, it’s 12-15 years old. I just keep filling it up and emptying it. I know the newer cans are kind of crappy, that’s what keeps me from getting a new one. 😁
@@GardeningwithBarchuckin Gotta get my time machine out and buy one!!
Thanks mate, great run through video! 🙌
Thanks Jacob!
Wow 👌 Nice Mower👍
That's a great toy. 👍 We have always had Craftsman for our yard. Thanks for sharing
❤Peggy❤
I like the craftsman mower I had it for 10 years but the deck rusted so not to get injured I had to upgrade 😁
grass machine unboxing, good and makes work easier
Thanks this is a very nice lawn mower
Nice unboxing! That's a great machine!😊
It’s pretty great! I’ve used it 4 times so far and it mows very well.
😊👍
That is a nice mower B. 😎
Thanks AJ, 2 cuts so far it has been great.
I wish it had larger diameter wheels. Florida St Augustine grass is very deep .
@@wataboutya9310 Larger diameter wheels would be awesome.
I bought the HRX recently. Great power! Great cut! It’s great minus one issue. The compression release problem. Crank your’s a few minutes after you start it and see if the pull rope locks up. I hope your’s doesn’t.
It’s been great so far! I’ve used it twice, no issue with the pull rope but thank you for the heads up. I will keep an eye on it.
I;m sure you know this by now but honda requires not to screw oil cap down when checking the oil but to only to set the dip stick in oil hole then pull out and check the level allso don't forget to have the camshaft decompression replaced, check manufacture recall I hope every one knows I had mine replaced other then that it;s been running perfect enjoy
I heard about the camshaft decompression after I purchased. Luckily no issue yet and Honda did sent a letter out saying there was an issue and they were working on solutions. I love this mower so far, and once the issue gets resolved it will be even better. Thanks for the heads up Pat, I always enjoy information, I did read about checking the oil level and not to screw into the filler neck.
That is a top of the line mower. I’ve had one similar to this one for about eight years now. Still cranks on the first pull. Honda makes great engines. My new mower is electric. I was skeptical before I began mowing. But the new electrics are amazingly powerful and one charge takes care of the area that I cut.
That is great Joe. I’m still a bit skeptical of the electric mowers. I work with solar panels, deep cycle batteries and lithium ion batteries at work. The technology has improved drastically from years ago. Honda stopped making gas powered engines in 2022, and my mower deck rusted through at the beginning of this year. So after researching and seeing this composite deck, I pulled the trigger. Very happy so far.
@@GardeningwithBarchuckin I’m surprised to hear Honda stopped making gas engines.
@@joesoutdoorplaces yeah came across that while researching. That is why I had get it fast.
I had a Craftman 7-5AH V60 battery self propel lawn mower. Bought in 2020 and the battery wont take charge, call craftman customer service was tole the battery is out of warranty and they also discontinue 7.5AH V60. And I can't find any replacement from authorized dealer which Craftman suggested, and I also can't find any battery repairs close to where I live. End up buy a new Honda self propel lawn mower and happy with it.
thats cool you can adjust the speed so your not running , LOL , awesome review
I figured out later you can leave it on a high setting and just push easier on the thumb controls. I tend to push it all the way down…pedal to the metal. 😁
The Honda mowers are nice. I think you should be using 1 of those old time rotory blade mowers tho. 🤪 This mower should last for years.
I just used the Honda mower again today and it is great. I have a Fiskars reel mower. It’s pretty neat. My yard isn’t flat enough yet. I think in the coming years I will add some compost to help level the yard out.
There are stainless steel side strips you can get as an accessory.
They protect the outside edges from getting scuffed on concrete or rocks.
If you don't have those obstacles you are golden!
Mine is much older and I sped it up after it was out of warranty.
Do you really put the dipstick in to check oil....on older ones you put it in the hole, no twist....must be something new...
Thanks for the heads up about the side strip accessory. Nope only obstacles for me is some uneven ground. I plan on picking up a bunch of things for it on the up coming months. New blades, air filter, and oil change kit so I will be ready to service it so it can last for a long time. My other mower was a craftsman and to deck failed after 10 years
Is it a special type of gas that has to be purchased? Or just the kind at any Chevron Gas Station?
I fill my gas can at the gas station with the highest octane 93-94. You can go to stores and purchase fuel without any ethanol also. Thanks for your questions hope that helps.
@@GardeningwithBarchuckin thank you!
mantap kang, berapa harganya ini,, apakah bisa di impor ke indonesia aceh
It was $800 US dollars. I’m not sure if this can be shipped or not to Indonesia
Our municipality requires all electric mowers and landscaping equipment in a few years, so we've started to replace ours one by one. Love our Honda gas mower, but it won't be with us much longer 😕

I always wanted a Honda mower. And now I have one.
Hope with the composite deck, it lasts for a long time. 😁
wow. I haven't heard of anything like that in the states. Does that rule apply to landscaping services too? There is no way I would be cutting my yard big yard with an electric push mower. It would literitly take hours and likely mutliple battery changes. Not many electric riding mowers out there last time I looked.
@@stevefromthegarden1135 before I got the Honda I seen at Home Depot a zero turn gas powered for $3,600 and a ryobi zero turn (had a joy stick for steering) for $7,000 80volt battery (says it can cut 3 acres on a charge 🤷♂️)
@@GardeningwithBarchuckin $7 grand. Yeah...that one is for me. 🤣 I will be sticking with my John Deere until the money falls into my lap. 😀
@@stevefromthegarden1135 Landscape companies and yard crews are exempt from the electric requirement. I must say it's getting a lot quieter in our neighbourhood! I think the deadline is 2025.

I just bought this same mower but my box says HRX217K6VKA. Do you happen to know what the K6 stands for? Thanks
Haha until now I never seen it. But my box on top left corner says HRX21K6VKA. Not sure what the k6 stands for but I will try to research it a bit. If I find anything interesting I will mention it here for you.

It stands for this model being the 6th generation of its kind. The last generation was K5 etc.
@@rezanorouzian8198 thank you for the information 👍
Super welcome! BTW, for those interested, this mower has gone on sale in Home Depot for $599. These are mainly 2022 model years with the recall work done on them by Honda.
Does rust proof mean plastic?
It’s a polymer deck, my last lawn mower had a metal deck that rusted through in about 8 years. I figured I would give this one a try.
I bought my Honda mower with their Nexite deck back in 2012 after I settled here in southeastern Georgia. With the humidity around here, I truly believe it was a good decision.
My Honda mower is still going strong over a dozen years later. I do not baby mine, either. I get it serviced annually and gas it up with ethanol-free gas, that's it.
I will say, the only fault I found with mine was the key/electric start. Initially upon buying the first mower, the key start failed fairly quickly. I ended up exchanging a couple of different mowers before figuring it was just not meant to be. The pull start works great as does everything thing else on the mower.
You should be using ethanol free gas despite what the manual says.
Thanks, I will check it out
remove the film is not all the plastic but the plastic that is protecting the sticker on top of the machine
Thanks for the heads up Lenard.
Just asking, aren't you supposed to run it for 30 min no load before using it, then change the oil?
Thanks for asking! What I seen on the maintenance schedule was after the first month or 5 hours for the first oil change. Then every 50 hours or 6 months for subsequent oil changes.
@@GardeningwithBarchuckin thank you. I just ordered one and don't have the manual yet. Thanks for the video
@@Trump-sucks I don’t see any issue doing it the way you said. I hope this link works this is the owners manual available online, maintenance schedule is on page 10: file:///var/mobile/Library/SMS/Attachments/85/05/B32FCCEB-7978-4123-A996-BD868BD0DF23/00x31vh7n030.pdf
@@GardeningwithBarchuckin thanks so very much. I appreciate you taking the time to find the link. Have a great night
How are you supposed to run it with no load when the engines runs full throttle on its own? And not by the way Biden sucks
