I did spot a turnip plant in a previous video, the swamp where Bonemass is alongside the little strip of black forest meeting the swamp coming from your portal, it's really on the edge of the biome i saw. Nice work on the base! And you have become a skilled abomination killer :o
Nice work on the moat! I wouldn't recommend bonemass with troll armor - at least not the first time! You can use a ton of iron so finding and clearing another swamp isn't a bad plan while you look for turnips. When you eventually find them don't cook any until you've farmed them a bit! You get 3 seeds per turnip when you plant them, so a couple of rounds of farming is critical before you start consuming to maintain your stock... Same thing in the mountains if you don't get lucky can take a lot of looking to get your next meal upgrade & you don't want to risk running out... Sorry if you already knew that i watched some of your last video while traveling and noticed you were still hunting for carrots 😉 might consider a portal hub to speed your travels - 3 or 4 portals active at once makes running around a lot quicker! Happy new year!
Happy new year bud. Im feeling some frustration in your latest vid. Dont stop to take on every mob you find, just run past them and keep looking for what your after. As everyone is saying, maybe look for another swamp. You will need to anyway to find iron and craft your armour upgrades. This should always be your priority. Once your geared up things become easier. Keep going though and explore as much as possible. You still have LOTS to discover. 😉
You're on the right track with the bonfire and the Abomination, but the trick to success is to build the bonfire and light it, then switch to your repair hammer. Run around the bonfire avoiding getting hit and keep that bonfire repaired! If you can keep it repaired while avoiding his attacks, he'll go down in no time. You've got this!
I really think you should find the turnip seeds before fighting Bonemass. as people said they are easy to miss, try to go to 2 new swamps, sooner or later you will find them, it is entirely possible they didnt spawn on the swamps you were looking for. Edit: you should make an iron helmet and upgrade it too, helmets dont have movment penalty so you get the high armor rate without the negative Really Love the base renovetions, looks great! keep it up!
The Turnip seeds spawn less than carrot seeds; that, and there isn't much room for them to grow with all the water. I think you did pass one much earlier when going through the swamp in a previous video. I'll look back through and see if I can find it. I would just try to always think to yourself "Observe and pick up everything" no matter what it is, any shrubs, anything on the ground, literally try to touch everything you see. Is there a weird looking bush, something on a cave wall, or strange rock? Doesn't matter just go touch it.
I think it's time to tell you something. take some time to go along the coast of the black forest by boat and go explore the interior of the black forest if you see how huge they are. because yes there is a merchant hiding in the black forest, who is incredibly useful and who sells game changer items. (there are 3 merchants in the game and they are all in a different biome but you have already accessed all of them, you just have to find them, good luck. you can find them very quickly in less than 1 hour for each one or spend 10 hours in boats before finding them) whatever happens, don't forget that going along the coast as close as possible in battle is still the fastest and easiest method ps ah yes a small detail when you pass close enough to a merchant a message appears in the middle of the screen and a symbol appears on the map but don't worry the detection radius of a merchant is larger than the radius to discover the map
You know, I've heard that wraith can be sometimes be found in swamp buildings, but I think this is the first time I've ever actually seen one. I've only seen the ones that come out at night.
I always try to get up high to fight the abominations. Where you were fighting there was a downed tree that had a high branch. I would have used that, or looked for a crypt to hop on top of. But the bonfire seems to be working for you. Well done. Chain come from the wraith and they will be useful for upgrades. There are some recipes that need thistle but not many. Also getting up on top of the skull works for abominations and for fighting Bonemass. The turnips are not exclusively on the edges of the swamp and they can be hard to find. Still enjoying watching your play through.
The turnips are relatively deep in the swamp. I find they are relatively easy to spot. They are similar to the look of the carrot seed plants. All you need is one to start growing them. They do unlock better foods. The Bonemass is the one boss I fear taking on solo wiithout decent preparation of the area. Bonemass spawns friends to help him which can be challenging. Having some stairs or the like in undistructable trees where you can take a quick break or a nearby dungeon to duck into is helpful. Bonemass.....is challenging to say the least.
Regarding your base, one trick I have seen some people use is to make the moat completely encircle the base and then create a bridge by placing wooden beams and half-beams (like a horizontal portcullis), as you can get over it with a cart but most monsters can't.
Nice base upgrades! Like others have said; the turnip seeds are quite rare so you might have to cover a lot of ground before you find them. I believe they can be found throughout the biome, not just at the edges.
Pointers for fighting Bonemass. Poison resistance potion is a must. Bonemass is very resistant to fire and pierce damage, so arrows wont make much of a dent. He is weak to blunt and frost damage. Use your Iron Mace and go to town. Take the stagbreaker and use it on the adds he tosses out periodically (blobs and skeletons). You dont want to let those build up or they will overwhelm. I have found it helpful to prep for the fight by taking a hoe and flattening all around the skull so that I dont have to be slowed down by water or worry about leaches, or trip over trunks or rocks. I have found the fight typically happens in circles around the skull. You may also want to take some extra wood and build a few workbenches around the edge of your fighting area as it will prevent random monsters from spawning and interrupting the fight (Sucks to have to deal with an archer draugers in the middle of dodging bonemass. If you didnt know, certain objects such as campfires and crafting benches will prevent anything from spawning in their area of effect. It's useful with bonemass as well as protecting your base. Good luck. I am enjoying the series. p.s. Turnip seeds can also be found in chests hidden in the ruins that are scattered about the swamp. They are rare. Get used to the hunt though as you'll be doing the same thing in the Mountains looking for Onion seeds.
Yes caster! ❤🎉 having a moat is such a good feeling, it’s something every base of mine has when I build in higher level biomes! A moat or usually I just build a stone wall with the hoe ❤🎉 it’s the safest feeling. I saw your base get destroyed last video it was so sad!
Have you noticed that you can get new seeds by planting the crops? And regarding to the bonemass fight: you should flatten the terrain around the altar first to run around smoothly. Maybe you need better armor though but with the mace you got the right weapon...
I didn't see any turnips and was looking the whole time. It's possible there are none in either of the two swamp biomes you explored in this episode, but I would say it's more likely you just missed one or two. My suggestion is that you just need to cover more ground. Make yourself the best health & stamina food you have, some meads, have Eikthyr power ready to go, and maybe a work bench and portal in your pocket if you want to really play it safe. Then just run through the swamp and don't fight anything. Only look for turnips and nothing else. If you feel certain your explored swamps didn't have any, then find a new swamp and just sprint through in systematic sweeps, not stopping to fight everything. It's true that the yellow flowered turnip seed plants are "easy to miss," but they're also pretty easy to spot if you're specifically looking for them. It's a little yellowy plant with a distinct model from the rest of the vegetation, and it says turnip seeds when you mouseover it. You'll know it when you see it.

Abominations are not liking you stealing their Turnips ;)

Happy New Year @zizzleheim202. Thanks for the tips. I have just started really carrot farming now - it's a game changer.

Would recommend the root trousers and helmet for bonemass, the helmet also give poison resistance so you dont have to use potions.

Oh like another one of my favorite TH-camrs says "Hey, there's something. Let's go poke it with a stick, see what happens."

Thanks @tehbeatts, I think just prioritizing the turnip seeds is the right way to go 👍🙂
