- Kris:
She was a flower for the takin', her beauty cut just like a knife...
He was a banker from Macon, he swore he'd love her all a his life...
Patty:
He bought her a mansion on the mountain,
with a formal garden and a lot a land...
But paradise became her prison,
That Georgia banker was a jealous man
Chorus (Both):
Every time he'd talk about her, you could see the fire in his eyes...
Kris:
He'd say, "I would walk through Hell on Sunday,
to keep my Rose in Paradise
He hired a man to tend the garden,
and keep an eye on her while he was gone
Some say they ran away together
Some say that gardener left alone
Patty:
Now the banker is an old man
That mansion's crum-ble-ing down
He sits all day and he stares at the garden
Not a trace of her was ever found
(Chorus)
Kris:
Now there's a rose out in the garden
Its beauty cuts just like a knife.
Patty:
They say that it even grows in the winter time,
And blooms in the dead of the night...
Kris is the best songwriter ever and I love to hear him sing... any song, any time...
They are both amazing on this song - Kris has such a soulful voice and Patty puts some real feeling into this one. Its been a while since Kris has put out something this great!
Absolutely love this version..by Kris & Patty!
IMO..One of the best Kris ever did!!..Love It!
The Album...is just awesome!!!
I feel George Jones influence in this story song. So sweet to sing this again... I am almost hearing voices (lol)
enak...santai..
Not bad. Patty Griffin sounds great. Kris IMO has never been a good singer but a unmistakable sound that is his.
yes indeed you know that gravely sound just like Stevie Nicks gravelly voice and Bob Dylan singing his own
The was a worthy tribute to Waylon; it's not quite up to Waylon's version, because it is almost impossible to match Waymore's powerhouse of a voice. But Kris's voice is absolutely Kris. Nobody better at being Kris Kristofferson. And he sings harmony like a real badass. The other Highwaymen called him the harmony whore. Kris will sing harmony on anything. He once said he's rather sing harmony than eat.
Some folks refer to it as singing, and they're right, 'coz essentially that is what it is. However, I prefer to dwell on delivery, and to me, incl the late great Janis, nobody delivers Kristofferson like Kristofferson. He's quoted as saying he's honoured to see great voices take his songs to places that his "unvarnished voice" never could (and at least over 1,000 people have covered his material). It's great to explore those excursions, and many are so fine, but for me, it ultimately comes back to the original man, as for me it is more about meaning-making and communication in the delivery. That matters a lot more than the quality of vocal chords.
Agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly, but you do realise he didn't write this song, right?
@@brucenorrie875 that's right it was written back in 1980 Jim McBride and Stuart Harris.. Wayland liked it back in 1987 and decided to just do it
Who are the 5 idiots who thumbed this down??!! SMH...
Now 6 idiot's
This version is just too slow for my liking.
