True Jeeper's love them as DD! You don't buy a Jeep for gas mileage, you buy it because it's a Jeep! It's truly a lifestyle, own a Jeep a day and you'll know what I mean. Complete strangers will start waving to you in their Jeep's. You don't get that with any other brand besides HD.
Blake Watson I love my 09 Rubi. Hell today with the doors and top off I got 23.4 mpg LMAO. With them on I was getting 15.3. Sadly though I'm mainly waving at other jeeps the a low return rate, I'm sure it's just my town though.
Indeed.. and beyond that, of the modern vehicles with their ridiculously oversized a pillars and sloped windshields , the wrangler has one of the best forward sight pictures in the industry.
I loved my Wrangler. It could drive through anything, and I think it's the perfect daily driver in the midwest winters. It went like a snowmobile and I never had to brush off the windshield.

About mpg, the one caveat I will give is that new cars need to break which usually improves mileage, but not enough to raise the fuel economy figure from my observed 14.9mpg to your 20mpg. Do you have the manual? Perhaps the 6 speed and smart driving can make a big difference over the 5-speed and average driving. Also, I drive these for about a week, so certainly take the number with a grain of salt, but I would suspect its relatively close to what others get. thanks for watching. -Greg
Just competed a road trip 1,200 Miles on my JK Sahara. I drove 50mph, 75mph and 85mph and it felt good. No sluggish feelings. There were high winds with some rain but my JK was solid. I saw many road cars, suv's fly past me while i kept 21mpg to 24mpg. The Jeep is a cool vehicle with capabilities flair and safety that the suv sleds and car (go carts) don't have. I removed the freedom tops for 200 miles while i listened to the sound of the air and getting 24mpg at 60mph and that is worth more than getting 30mpg inside a bubble of metal and plastic. The Jeep also has confidence with its stance of height and safety because you are not sitting so low that an accident will cause most cars to become crushed or squashed at the life essential areas of the vehicle like roof and legs. . Most Jeepers will call my JK a non jeep compared to CJ or some jeepers will call my Sahara a prius of the Jeep family compared to the Rubicon or Sport but its my daily driver and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The Sahara is a trim level of what could be compared to car and I've added 800lbs of bumpers, winch, rock sliders and lights. Bottom line is doors don't ding my doors in parking lots they ding their door edges on my bumpers and rock sliders. I get great mileage and i can see over the cars in traffic while jamming out to the radio or the wind with the freedom tops removed. If you want a cookie cutter road sled or suv aka wagon with 2 wheel drive then buy a kia a honda or a chevy but if you want options, confidence and feeling of awesome capability on and off road then buy a jeep. Sport ,Rubicon and Sahara are all great so enjoy the feeling and know you will never have the same love for any vehicle ever again. I'm not a car lover i'm a jeep lover and its a choice to have options of roads on and off top on or off muddy, snowy rainy or sunny my jeep accepts all and achieves it with coolness and confidence!
Still... Jk isn't as great a TJ or a YJ... I can't seem to see it as a jeep xD I wouldn't call it a PRIUS of the jeep family, but it just doesn't give the true jeep experience.
Not discounting the vehicle, it's a sweet off-roader! However, the Jeep safety ratings are sub-par compared to comparable off-roaders... Marginal score (second lowest) from IIHS SIDE crash test (which PASSENGER CARS have been passing since 2006) and granted, it scores high in the moderate overlap from crash, it scores another marginal in the small overlap front, another test which some vehicles have been passing since 2003 (Volvo XC90). So I would not advocate safety... Give me standard side airbags for front and rear seats, and improve front crash ratings and I'll buy one in a heartbeat, but until then I'd rather stick with a Subaru Forester.

My 2013 JKU has been my daily driver for 7 years now and I absolutely love it. We went for a joy ride this weekend with the top off and we could have ridden around all day. I love my Jeep.
I had a 2001 Wrangler and now have a 2014 as a daily driver. As long as you realize it's not a Mercedes or other luxury car, there's no problem. I've never complained about the harsh ride. I wish the fuel economy could be better, but other than that the Jeep is a great daily driver.
I have a wrangler as my daily driver. My job is literally life and death. Cardiothoracic Surgery. 8 inches of snow and nothing plowed when a patient has an aortic aneurysm rupture at 230am? Not a problem. I pulled fallen trees out of the way during Hurricane Sandy with the Jeep to get through. It's not for everyone but has been the best emergency/first responder vehicle I could ever ask for.

I know this is old news but like the guy who posted below, for the longest time I couldn’t afford one and wanted one SO bad (although I had a use for it). They still remain very expensive vehicles but I found a low mileage, clean as a whistle used 2013 and I am in hog heaven. Finally! ❤️
I'm going to look at a 2012 and 2013 tomorrow both 4 door Sahara's. Have a 2014 Grand Cherokee. Don't need another vehicle but always wanted a Wrangler
Great review. You weren't ragging on the Jeep, just simply being honest. My wife wants to get one of these as a commuter and I've pointed out all of the issues with that idea. Hope this puts the icing on that cake.
The jeep experience (owning a wrangler) is really like skydiving.. it doesn't seem like the greatest idea in the world when you look at it from a distance and have never experienced it yet.. but you just have to take that first leap of faith, and once you do, you'll only want more and more. its hard to really explain to people who haven't taken that leap themselves. 200,000 miles later in my YJ, and it still hasn't gotten boring. The old girl is on her last leg but still just as fun as the day i bought it. A JK will be in my future.

My husband bought me a 2015 unlimited Sahara for Christmas, and I absolutely love it! I have wanted a jeep for years. But with 4 kids it wasn't even a possibility. So I have driven 2 vans and a few years ago bought a Dodge Durango, which we still have and love. But, with our kids getting older and 2 having their own cars I started talking about a jeep again. We talked about getting one in summer. We went and test drove one before Christmas, and I loved it! The day after Christmas my husband surprised me with my jeep. It definitely drives different than our Durango. But its a jeep!! I think I have driven the Durango once since owning the jeep. I can't wait for summer to take the top off and taking some road trips in it with my husband!!

I use to live in New Mexico. Chokecherry Canyon (one word) is right above Farmington, NM. It is where all people around that area that their 4x4. There are a lot of videos on TH-cam of 4x4 in Chokecherry. Gallup, NM is about 110 miles to the south west from Farmington. That should help everyone out. I also thought you might be up around Chokecherry.
I liked your review video. Just bought a 2014 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara in Anvil color. Never had a Jeep before but thought I always wanted one. I was right. I love this vehicle. Plenty of comfort and amenities plus plenty of off road capabilities. Just the right mix for me, for the road and the farm and the trail. My grandkids love it too. Thanks again for a great review!
My parents own a wrangler unlimited Sahara and it handles like a boss! My dad hit a deer in the highway at 140-160 km and it di dint do any damage apart from the number plate falling and the bumper slightly bending

I'm from Canada and the region I'm from the temperature has a variance of over 140 degrees, from near 50 below zero to sometimes 100 above. as a daily driver it works for me. secure in the winter and fun in the summer. they're one of a kind. nice vid.
+DoinThupidThings Once you've owned a Wrangler, it's like a disease (although a good one). You always go back to a Wrangler. I have a friend who buys a new car every year, and he's driven Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, yet he's owned 6 Wranglers. He keeps going back to them.
omg yes! The only problem I had with them in the past was not enough horsepower but now with a 3.6 Pentastar, that is not an issue. Easily merges with and keeps up with traffic highway traffic flow. One thing I discovered this winter was you don't even have to put the hard top back on in the fall. I live in Northern Canada and found that my two door was always warm within about 5 to 7 minutes, especially with heated seats. The only remaining issue with the two door is lack of space-not much room to pack stuff if you have passengers in the rear seat. A long distance haul would require you to install a luggage rack on the roof. Other than that, Jeep is awesome!
+Kailer S Sure, if you realize it's not a smooth a ride as a luxury SUV would be. It's not a BMW or Mercedes. But they're great daily drivers except the gas mileage is on the low side. If you live in the snow they're even better daily's.
Kailer S Personal preference I think. I love a truck with a lift kit and aggressive mud tires. But for me it's a Jeep Wrangler all the way. Greg Roberts is right when he says it's not a smooth ride but that's something I don't care about. You should test drive both and go from there

Spot on review. Just bought my first Jeep this week. As mentioned there are a lot of negatives, but it's an iconic vehicle, and a ton of fun to drive. One thing I think you should have included that I recently found out, other Wrangler drivers will wave at you, talk to you at red lights, and sometimes follow you.
Robert once again, I forgot to mention MPG, this jeep averages on the highway about 12.9 to 13.5 with what I mentioned on my previous post. This jeep came with many AWESOME extras, and this includes wheels. The current tire size is a LT285/65R18
Depends also what model you have, like I have the Rubicon model it's 410 gears and it has a lot of power and it's really good on the highway. But I drove the regular model and that thing was horrible on the highway and had no power at all not sure what gears had but it makes a difference
Fair assessment Greg. The only people who have a use for a Jeep are people who take them off road. I live in Australia where we get the 2.8 Common Rail Diesel version of the Wrangler. Much better fuel consumption and much better than a petrol for the frequent creek crossings that you can get here in Tasmania. There are lots of annoying things about the Wrangler, but at the end of the day it comes down to this. You've got coil springs (not leaf) over solid axles (not independent front suspension). That is THE tried and true recipe for off-road articulation. With the demise of the Land Rover Defender, along with Nissan and Toyota's retreat to IFS for better on-road performance, that leaves you with the Jeep or the Mercedes G-wagon for the pure coil + solid axle set up. The G-wagon is over $100,000 worth of automobile. So -- at least for us non-millionaires -- when it comes to priority for off-road over on-road, the Wrangler is the last man standing. It's made for a purpose and you have to want it for the right reasons.
Tacoma for sure. It's just more practical...but it's really a good matchup. They both get terrible fuel economy. Both have higher than average resale. Jeep is better off road and generally alittle cooler and more fun, but the Tacoma has more room and is generally better at everything else. Thanks for watching! -Greg
actually the torque numbers do show that, the 4.0 makes nearly full torque off idle, the 3.8 and pentastars have no low down torque, and make lots of hp up top, which is not ideal of low speed driving or rockcrawling, and also i never mentioned anything about the powertrain of chassis simply the engine, the jeep in this video does not have front and rear 44s only a rubicon has a front 44. not sure of the relevance of a sound system to the function of an engine?
I bought my 2013 wrangler sahara in June 2013, and have loved it ever since. I knew I wasn't getting a gas saver car and i'm not driving a Lincoln Mkz, so I know ride quality and drive won't be smooth, but that's ok, I've been offroading in a wrangler in Aruba and that's what made me love the wranglers even more !!!. Needless to say I do get approx. 640kms on a tank of gas so I can't complain :)
Don't judge the book by its cover on your title. I was ready to blast this review, being the owner of two 2012's (3.6s, one two door, one four, one manual, one auto-respectively). And, yes, they aren't the best daily drivers, but I was glad to hear you review WHY people love their Jeeps. We take ours off road. We USE our Jeeps. And I'm glad to hear it from someone that gets that it is not a vehicle you get without the compromises. But it's worth it. Thank you!

I currently drive a Defender 110 and am looking to change it for one of these, as l can’t get another new Defender, plus the later ones weren’t as good. But can’t live with 14mpg so it’ll have to be the diesel
I would own nothing but a Jeep! I have had one since 1989. Upgraded a year ago from 2006 wrangler to a 2015 Tank green unlimited 6 speed . The Jeep just keeps getting better and better. They also hold their value better than 90% of the vehicles out there. Thanks for the vid!

Samuel Schaper You can get a standard 2 door Wrangler fairly stripped down in the low 20's I think. I'm not really an expert on the full line up though so you'll need to do a little research, the Unlimited ads a few grand. They have great resale value though! Samuel Schaper The time to buy a Wrangler "on the cheap" is during the model year crossover, so essentially now, and then again next year (which might have a different refresh as the final JK model comes out in 2016). There are usually some discounts to push last year's model out the door while people wait for this year's model to come in. The rebates can be many thousands of dollars, my 2012 Rubi was $4500 off the top, plus special corporate discount ontop of that, our 2015 Wrangler Sport from last fall ended up getting a $1500 discount because it got delayed from high demand summer to lower demand fall by the time it was custom built and delivered from Toledo. Another thing to consider is to find out if the dealership near you knows of things like the Student discounts and the Tread Lightly member discount. Check into those, they can usually add up to a percentage point or a few, which turns out to be a good chunk of change. There are also servicemen discounts and such, but I doubt they would apply to you. Just check with your dealer and find out what the latest discounts offered are, also check online in the jeep/wrangler forums, as some dealers either don't know, or are reluctant to tell you how to reduce their profit. A base JK Sport-B can be had for about $20K after all the discounts and dealer haggling, but if you were to buy a new 2016 now, you likely wouldn't get much off of the base $26K sticker price. I would recommend you spend the money on 2 options though if you get the Sport-B, first swap the stock 16" pizza cutters for something better, either getting the 17" wheels that come with the HD suspension package option, or else sell those 16s as spares (even back to the dealer) and then add your own with good tyres (and get your speedo adjusted). Also spend the money on the side-impact airbags, as a $400 option, they're worth every penny to reduce the impact of other people's bad driving habits IMO. As a starter vehicle a manual transmission Wrangler is a pretty good way to understand how this whole driving thing works, and if you find later you don't like the 'Jeep experience' then you'll be able to sell it for much closer to what you bought it for than most vehicles, and it'll get you well on your way to your second vehicle. And unlike most vehicles, even if you finance it, it'll still have a ton of value while you're making payments so that you're not left paying something that's worth nothing anymore.
Sure they are more comfortable and very capable. But adding all the comfort features doesn't make them any cheaper or easier to repair, especially out on the trail miles away from civilization. My YJ is almost 23 years old and still working great. Also very cheap to maintain. What are we going to be saying about the JK's in 20 years? I'm sure the body will outlast the drivetrain but how many owners will be able to afford keeping them going. Or even have the desire to keep them going? Thanks.
Hi Greg. I'm considering buying one of these as my daily vehicle, and I was a bit surprised when you said that the Jeep was a bit sluggish. I saw a review last week on another youtube chanel, and they did a 0-60 mph in 7' flat. As I will be using the Jeep around town a bit, is the useful power available only in high rpm? Wow, 7 seconds? It certainly feels slower than that, but I think you hit the nail on the head, power is made high up in the rev range so if you're willing to rev it, it will move ok. Don't let me video discourage you, there are better daily drivers out there, but not as capable off road! Cheers! -Greg
ignore all of these reviews of people who havent driven then more then a few hundred feet, or are compairing it to a high end SUV, go buy it you wont regret it. my rubicon will do 80 all day long downt the freeway however (like any car just to a larger extent) you pay a penelty in mileage. as for being "slugish" yes there are faster SUVs out there but you arent buying a lifted car, you are buying a 4000+ lb body on frame suv so no its not fast, but it has no problems keeping up with traffic

I must say that although I haven't tried the 2012 and up Wrangler with the Pentastar engine. But I agreed that the previous V6 3.8L minivan engine wasn't all that great torque wise. But I own a 2001 Wrangler TJ with the in-line 6 cyl 4.0L and this thing has lot's or torque even though it's rated at 190 HP. It picks up very quickly from a stand still and climb very well thank you. Further more most of the torque is in the low range making it ideal for what it is designed to do, crawling off-road.

I really don't understand what people are talking about when they talk about how a Jeep rides. If you compare it against a luxury car or so called luxury truck you can't, it's a Jeep. I just purchased a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 10 Year Anniversary Edition and it rides excellent. It has good acceleration, it's not sluggish, and you can see good out of all windows
Did people mod them? (Fully admit I'm not a Jeep nut) I remember the 4.0 being quite the dog. I had the 5.2 in my Grand Cherokee (and currently in my Dakota) thanks chiming in. -Greg
I drove a 99 Sahara around daily for 4 years, wasn't that bad..at least it was a stick. Winters were rough on the hwy with zero traction control..spun out ice one year and smashed a guard rail..sold it shortly after.
I don't know why everyone is bashing you. I KNOW you hit the nail on the head with this review. I own a 03 civic, 07 dodge dually and 11 JKU with 2.5" lift & 33's (the jeep is the worst) I also own a car shipping business and have driven just about every new vehicle since 07. I agree with you 100% that the Jeep JK is a terrible everyday driver. I think people just don't want to admit they spent $30K + on a jeep that gets 15mpg and is way underpowered. BUT, I love my JK and would never sell it!
It is the only 4WD, 4 dr convertible for under $100k that I know of. Grab the wife, the kids, the dog, some gear and you are off... ANYWHERE. Bring it home, wash it off, its roomy and comfortable for a night out. The next day, fold down a back seat or two, toss in surfboards or other gear, take the top down, grab a friend or two, and you are off to the beach. Are there better cars for quiet or comfort or speed? Sure. Any other vehicle that does all that I mentioned? Nope. None. Keep your hard top SUVS... I'll stick with my JK Sahara Unlimited.
dude. i have the same jeep only i changed to a 3.5 inch lift with 35 inch tires and an extra 500 lbs in bumpers as well as the added weight of the tires. I get 17.5 to 18 mpg. it has a K&N cold air intake. your review is a bit off. i have pushed 3.5 feet of water/mud and scaled trails galore that felt near vertical. every single scratch and dent on my "Mall Crawler" i put there myself. i love my daily driver 2013 Jeep Sahara. i have beat the s**t out of it and fixed it and it Continues to be my true love affair on wheels. You know what? Screw it! I'm going Jeepin!
Great review! My son has a 2014 Sahara limited, I know that jeeps are made for off roading more so than highway use. But one has to drive on the highway before one gets off road, I noticed that this jeep loses lots of engine power on inclines, auto transmission keeps continually downshifting to lower gears. Mostly to 3rd but at times down to 2nd at 60 plus MPH! The engine revs of course, tachometer will jump to 6K! Jeep slows while all this is happening, vehicles are passing this jeep on the highway. Once back on flatter highway, jeeps starts to gain speed but slowly. If I want to speed up, trans downshifts over and over again. Driving 70 MPH is difficult but can be done but won't last once another highway incline comes up. Is this common for this type of jeep? This jeep looks so awesome and I can't wait to be with my son off roading with it. Your input will be greatly appreciated sir!
Robert, sounds like the 'learning' component, you can get that reset and it will shift slightly differently as it trys to adapt to the drivers' driving style. You can also assist its learning by manually changing the auto-stick forcing it back into the gear you want. However another aspect of gradual acceleration is the 'efficiency programing' inside the US version of the WA580 (the 2012 was the ZF made in Europe, the 2013 and later was made under license by Jeep/C-Fiat in the US), so with the US version you kinda need to stomp on it to get it to get back into delivering power, which it will, and the more you doit, the more it learns. Also, this is not the old 3.8L, it rev-ing to around 6K is not a bad thing, and this engine is built to rev higher and to be comfortable going closer to the top than the older engine(s). It's still not at the level of small displacement import sports car engines, but it's above the old comfort zone. I have a 2012 Rubicon Auto, and a 2015 Sport Manual, and neither has an issue keeping ~110+ KPH going up a highway incline and I can usually keep it pegged either just below or above 3K (and I live in the Rockies at altitude, which means lots of inclines and reduced engine power due to lowered O2 levels).
I own a 2012 wrangler 6 speed its a great ride smooth and hardley feel any bumps so quite u can whisper at highway speed great view with small blind spots has so much power i can take off like a rocket and and maintain speed.the fuel economy is fantastic it practical sips fuel. then you take it offroad and it can go anywhere you point it.

If they hadn't put a sub in there, I would. Sound for me is the 2nd most important thing in a car, right after the engine. And specially in a vehicle like this, so outdoor inspired, it's good to have great sound quality with the top off!
Im so confused right now. Im getting a new vehicle and its either between the Wrangler unlimited or Ram 1500 Hemi Sport. Both are great in winter, but the jeep has the removable top for summer. Then I hear the Ram is better on fuel, but I want a manual vehicle and there is no Ram with a stick shift. But the truck is way more powerful. I cant decide...

True Jeeper's love them as DD! You don't buy a Jeep for gas mileage, you buy it because it's a Jeep! It's truly a lifestyle, own a Jeep a day and you'll know what I mean. Complete strangers will start waving to you in their Jeep's. You don't get that with any other brand besides HD.

Blake Watson I love my 09 Rubi. Hell today with the doors and top off I got 23.4 mpg LMAO. With them on I was getting 15.3. Sadly though I'm mainly waving at other jeeps the a low return rate, I'm sure it's just my town though.

I loved my Wrangler. It could drive through anything, and I think it's the perfect daily driver in the midwest winters. It went like a snowmobile and I never had to brush off the windshield.

About mpg, the one caveat I will give is that new cars need to break which usually improves mileage, but not enough to raise the fuel economy figure from my observed 14.9mpg to your 20mpg.
Do you have the manual? Perhaps the 6 speed and smart driving can make a big difference over the 5-speed and average driving. Also, I drive these for about a week, so certainly take the number with a grain of salt, but I would suspect its relatively close to what others get.

4.0L Inline six was a fantastic motor. In an XJ that motor moves the hell out of it. It only weighed 3300 lbs in 4x4 trim.

Just competed a road trip 1,200 Miles on my JK Sahara. I drove 50mph, 75mph and 85mph and it felt good. No sluggish feelings. There were high winds with some rain but my JK was solid. I saw many road cars, suv's fly past me while i kept 21mpg to 24mpg.
The Jeep is a cool vehicle with capabilities flair and safety that the suv sleds and car (go carts) don't have. I removed the freedom tops for 200 miles while i listened to the sound of the air and getting 24mpg at 60mph and that is worth more than getting 30mpg inside a bubble of metal and plastic.
The Jeep also has confidence with its stance of height and safety because you are not sitting so low that an accident will cause most cars to become crushed or squashed at the life essential areas of the vehicle like roof and legs. .
Most Jeepers will call my JK a non jeep compared to CJ or some jeepers will call my Sahara a prius of the Jeep family compared to the Rubicon or Sport but its my daily driver and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The Sahara is a trim level of what could be compared to car and I've added 800lbs of bumpers, winch, rock sliders and lights. Bottom line is doors don't ding my doors in parking lots they ding their door edges on my bumpers and rock sliders. I get great mileage and i can see over the cars in traffic while jamming out to the radio or the wind with the freedom tops removed.
If you want a cookie cutter road sled or suv aka wagon with 2 wheel drive then buy a kia a honda or a chevy but if you want options, confidence and feeling of awesome capability on and off road then buy a jeep. Sport ,Rubicon and Sahara are all great so enjoy the feeling and know you will never have the same love for any vehicle ever again.
I'm not a car lover i'm a jeep lover and its a choice to have options of roads on and off top on or off muddy, snowy rainy or sunny my jeep accepts all and achieves it with coolness and confidence!

Still... Jk isn't as great a TJ or a YJ... I can't seem to see it as a jeep xD I wouldn't call it a PRIUS of the jeep family, but it just doesn't give the true jeep experience.
Not discounting the vehicle, it's a sweet off-roader! However, the Jeep safety ratings are sub-par compared to comparable off-roaders... Marginal score (second lowest) from IIHS SIDE crash test (which PASSENGER CARS have been passing since 2006) and granted, it scores high in the moderate overlap from crash, it scores another marginal in the small overlap front, another test which some vehicles have been passing since 2003 (Volvo XC90). So I would not advocate safety...
Give me standard side airbags for front and rear seats, and improve front crash ratings and I'll buy one in a heartbeat, but until then I'd rather stick with a Subaru Forester.
Hipster needs a BMW X3 and a latte, then maybe he'll be happy on his way to turn in his groupon coupon to the wine tasting.

My 2013 JKU has been my daily driver for 7 years now and I absolutely love it. We went for a joy ride this weekend with the top off and we could have ridden around all day. I love my Jeep.
I had a 2001 Wrangler and now have a 2014 as a daily driver. As long as you realize it's not a Mercedes or other luxury car, there's no problem. I've never complained about the harsh ride. I wish the fuel economy could be better, but other than that the Jeep is a great daily driver.
I have a wrangler as my daily driver. My job is literally life and death. Cardiothoracic Surgery. 8 inches of snow and nothing plowed when a patient has an aortic aneurysm rupture at 230am? Not a problem. I pulled fallen trees out of the way during Hurricane Sandy with the Jeep to get through. It's not for everyone but has been the best emergency/first responder vehicle I could ever ask for.

The reason the window switches are in the center is so when you have the front doors off you can still operate the back door windows
I know this is old news but like the guy who posted below, for the longest time I couldn’t afford one and wanted one SO bad (although I had a use for it). They still remain very expensive vehicles but I found a low mileage, clean as a whistle used 2013 and I am in hog heaven. Finally! ❤️
I'm going to look at a 2012 and 2013 tomorrow both 4 door Sahara's. Have a 2014 Grand Cherokee. Don't need another vehicle but always wanted a Wrangler
Great review. You weren't ragging on the Jeep, just simply being honest. My wife wants to get one of these as a commuter and I've pointed out all of the issues with that idea. Hope this puts the icing on that cake.
The jeep experience (owning a wrangler) is really like skydiving.. it doesn't seem like the greatest idea in the world when you look at it from a distance and have never experienced it yet.. but you just have to take that first leap of faith, and once you do, you'll only want more and more. its hard to really explain to people who haven't taken that leap themselves. 200,000 miles later in my YJ, and it still hasn't gotten boring. The old girl is on her last leg but still just as fun as the day i bought it. A JK will be in my future.

My husband bought me a 2015 unlimited Sahara for Christmas, and I absolutely love it! I have wanted a jeep for years. But with 4 kids it wasn't even a possibility. So I have driven 2 vans and a few years ago bought a Dodge Durango, which we still have and love. But, with our kids getting older and 2 having their own cars I started talking about a jeep again. We talked about getting one in summer. We went and test drove one before Christmas, and I loved it! The day after Christmas my husband surprised me with my jeep. It definitely drives different than our Durango. But its a jeep!! I think I have driven the Durango once since owning the jeep. I can't wait for summer to take the top off and taking some road trips in it with my husband!!
They certainly have their place, but there's no denying the newest Jeeps are at another level in terms of everyday comfort.

Im on my 1st wrangler and when I got it a few months ago I thought why didnt I do this years ago instead of buying trucks and sports cars.
I use to live in New Mexico. Chokecherry Canyon (one word) is right above Farmington, NM. It is where all people around that area that their 4x4. There are a lot of videos on TH-cam of 4x4 in Chokecherry. Gallup, NM is about 110 miles to the south west from Farmington. That should help everyone out. I also thought you might be up around Chokecherry.
I liked your review video. Just bought a 2014 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara in Anvil color. Never had a Jeep before but thought I always wanted one. I was right. I love this vehicle. Plenty of comfort and amenities plus plenty of off road capabilities. Just the right mix for me, for the road and the farm and the trail. My grandkids love it too. Thanks again for a great review!
My parents own a wrangler unlimited Sahara and it handles like a boss! My dad hit a deer in the highway at 140-160 km and it di dint do any damage apart from the number plate falling and the bumper slightly bending
I don't power versus manual windows matters much, I'd probably opt for the 6 speed manual though! (one more gear, better off road)

I'm from Canada and the region I'm from the temperature has a variance of over 140 degrees, from near 50 below zero to sometimes 100 above. as a daily driver it works for me. secure in the winter and fun in the summer. they're one of a kind. nice vid.

omg yes! The only problem I had with them in the past was not enough horsepower but now with a 3.6 Pentastar, that is not an issue. Easily merges with and keeps up with traffic highway traffic flow. One thing I discovered this winter was you don't even have to put the hard top back on in the fall. I live in Northern Canada and found that my two door was always warm within about 5 to 7 minutes, especially with heated seats. The only remaining issue with the two door is lack of space-not much room to pack stuff if you have passengers in the rear seat. A long distance haul would require you to install a luggage rack on the roof. Other than that, Jeep is awesome!
+Kailer S Sure, if you realize it's not a smooth a ride as a luxury SUV would be. It's not a BMW or Mercedes. But they're great daily drivers except the gas mileage is on the low side. If you live in the snow they're even better daily's.
Kailer S Personal preference I think. I love a truck with a lift kit and aggressive mud tires. But for me it's a Jeep Wrangler all the way. Greg Roberts is right when he says it's not a smooth ride but that's something I don't care about. You should test drive both and go from there

Spot on review. Just bought my first Jeep this week. As mentioned there are a lot of negatives, but it's an iconic vehicle, and a ton of fun to drive. One thing I think you should have included that I recently found out, other Wrangler drivers will wave at you, talk to you at red lights, and sometimes follow you.

Robert once again, I forgot to mention MPG, this jeep averages on the highway about 12.9 to 13.5 with what I mentioned on my previous post. This jeep came with many AWESOME extras, and this includes wheels. The current tire size is a LT285/65R18

Depends also what model you have, like I have the Rubicon model it's 410 gears and it has a lot of power and it's really good on the highway. But I drove the regular model and that thing was horrible on the highway and had no power at all not sure what gears had but it makes a difference

Fair assessment Greg. The only people who have a use for a Jeep are people who take them off road. I live in Australia where we get the 2.8 Common Rail Diesel version of the Wrangler. Much better fuel consumption and much better than a petrol for the frequent creek crossings that you can get here in Tasmania.
There are lots of annoying things about the Wrangler, but at the end of the day it comes down to this. You've got coil springs (not leaf) over solid axles (not independent front suspension). That is THE tried and true recipe for off-road articulation. With the demise of the Land Rover Defender, along with Nissan and Toyota's retreat to IFS for better on-road performance, that leaves you with the Jeep or the Mercedes G-wagon for the pure coil + solid axle set up. The G-wagon is over $100,000 worth of automobile. So -- at least for us non-millionaires -- when it comes to priority for off-road over on-road, the Wrangler is the last man standing. It's made for a purpose and you have to want it for the right reasons.
Tacoma for sure. It's just more practical...but it's really a good matchup. They both get terrible fuel economy. Both have higher than average resale. Jeep is better off road and generally alittle cooler and more fun, but the Tacoma has more room and is generally better at everything else.

actually the torque numbers do show that, the 4.0 makes nearly full torque off idle, the 3.8 and pentastars have no low down torque, and make lots of hp up top, which is not ideal of low speed driving or rockcrawling, and also i never mentioned anything about the powertrain of chassis simply the engine, the jeep in this video does not have front and rear 44s only a rubicon has a front 44. not sure of the relevance of a sound system to the function of an engine?

I bought my 2013 wrangler sahara in June 2013, and have loved it ever since.
I knew I wasn't getting a gas saver car and i'm not driving a Lincoln Mkz, so I know ride quality and drive won't be smooth, but that's ok, I've been offroading in a wrangler in Aruba and that's what made me love the wranglers even more !!!.
Needless to say I do get approx. 640kms on a tank of gas so I can't complain :)
Don't judge the book by its cover on your title. I was ready to blast this review, being the owner of two 2012's (3.6s, one two door, one four, one manual, one auto-respectively). And, yes, they aren't the best daily drivers, but I was glad to hear you review WHY people love their Jeeps. We take ours off road. We USE our Jeeps. And I'm glad to hear it from someone that gets that it is not a vehicle you get without the compromises. But it's worth it. Thank you!

I would own nothing but a Jeep! I have had one since 1989. Upgraded a year ago from 2006 wrangler to a 2015 Tank green unlimited 6 speed . The Jeep just keeps getting better and better. They also hold their value better than 90% of the vehicles out there. Thanks for the vid!

Samuel Schaper You can get a standard 2 door Wrangler fairly stripped down in the low 20's I think. I'm not really an expert on the full line up though so you'll need to do a little research, the Unlimited ads a few grand. They have great resale value though!

Samuel Schaper The time to buy a Wrangler "on the cheap" is during the model year crossover, so essentially now, and then again next year (which might have a different refresh as the final JK model comes out in 2016). There are usually some discounts to push last year's model out the door while people wait for this year's model to come in.
The rebates can be many thousands of dollars, my 2012 Rubi was $4500 off the top, plus special corporate discount ontop of that, our 2015 Wrangler Sport from last fall ended up getting a $1500 discount because it got delayed from high demand summer to lower demand fall by the time it was custom built and delivered from Toledo.
Another thing to consider is to find out if the dealership near you knows of things like the Student discounts and the Tread Lightly member discount. Check into those, they can usually add up to a percentage point or a few, which turns out to be a good chunk of change. There are also servicemen discounts and such, but I doubt they would apply to you. Just check with your dealer and find out what the latest discounts offered are, also check online in the jeep/wrangler forums, as some dealers either don't know, or are reluctant to tell you how to reduce their profit.
A base JK Sport-B can be had for about $20K after all the discounts and dealer haggling, but if you were to buy a new 2016 now, you likely wouldn't get much off of the base $26K sticker price. I would recommend you spend the money on 2 options though if you get the Sport-B, first swap the stock 16" pizza cutters for something better, either getting the 17" wheels that come with the HD suspension package option, or else sell those 16s as spares (even back to the dealer) and then add your own with good tyres (and get your speedo adjusted). Also spend the money on the side-impact airbags, as a $400 option, they're worth every penny to reduce the impact of other people's bad driving habits IMO.
As a starter vehicle a manual transmission Wrangler is a pretty good way to understand how this whole driving thing works, and if you find later you don't like the 'Jeep experience' then you'll be able to sell it for much closer to what you bought it for than most vehicles, and it'll get you well on your way to your second vehicle. And unlike most vehicles, even if you finance it, it'll still have a ton of value while you're making payments so that you're not left paying something that's worth nothing anymore.
Sure they are more comfortable and very capable. But adding all the comfort features doesn't make them any cheaper or easier to repair, especially out on the trail miles away from civilization. My YJ is almost 23 years old and still working great. Also very cheap to maintain. What are we going to be saying about the JK's in 20 years? I'm sure the body will outlast the drivetrain but how many owners will be able to afford keeping them going. Or even have the desire to keep them going?

Wow, 7 seconds? It certainly feels slower than that, but I think you hit the nail on the head, power is made high up in the rev range so if you're willing to rev it, it will move ok. Don't let me video discourage you, there are better daily drivers out there, but not as capable off road!

ignore all of these reviews of people who havent driven then more then a few hundred feet, or are compairing it to a high end SUV, go buy it you wont regret it. my rubicon will do 80 all day long downt the freeway however (like any car just to a larger extent) you pay a penelty in mileage. as for being "slugish" yes there are faster SUVs out there but you arent buying a lifted car, you are buying a 4000+ lb body on frame suv so no its not fast, but it has no problems keeping up with traffic
I drove it for over a week. I drive a lot of vehicles and have a pretty good frame of reference. To each his own!

I must say that although I haven't tried the 2012 and up Wrangler with the Pentastar engine. But I agreed that the previous V6 3.8L minivan engine wasn't all that great torque wise. But I own a 2001 Wrangler TJ with the in-line 6 cyl 4.0L and this thing has lot's or torque even though it's rated at 190 HP. It picks up very quickly from a stand still and climb very well thank you. Further more most of the torque is in the low range making it ideal for what it is designed to do, crawling off-road.
Why don't you start with what you're going to use it for? (although it already sounds like the Ram is what you really want)

I really don't understand what people are talking about when they talk about how a Jeep rides. If you compare it against a luxury car or so called luxury truck you can't, it's a Jeep. I just purchased a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 10 Year Anniversary Edition and it rides excellent.
It has good acceleration, it's not sluggish, and you can see good out of all windows

Did people mod them? (Fully admit I'm not a Jeep nut) I remember the 4.0 being quite the dog. I had the 5.2 in my Grand Cherokee (and currently in my Dakota)

Got a TJ for my daily driver, love it!
I drove a 99 Sahara around daily for 4 years, wasn't that bad..at least it was a stick. Winters were rough on the hwy with zero traction control..spun out ice one year and smashed a guard rail..sold it shortly after.
I don't know why everyone is bashing you. I KNOW you hit the nail on the head with this review. I own a 03 civic, 07 dodge dually and 11 JKU with 2.5" lift & 33's (the jeep is the worst) I also own a car shipping business and have driven just about every new vehicle since 07. I agree with you 100% that the Jeep JK is a terrible everyday driver. I think people just don't want to admit they spent $30K + on a jeep that gets 15mpg and is way underpowered. BUT, I love my JK and would never sell it!

It is the only 4WD, 4 dr convertible for under $100k that I know of. Grab the wife, the kids, the dog, some gear and you are off... ANYWHERE. Bring it home, wash it off, its roomy and comfortable for a night out. The next day, fold down a back seat or two, toss in surfboards or other gear, take the top down, grab a friend or two, and you are off to the beach. Are there better cars for quiet or comfort or speed? Sure. Any other vehicle that does all that I mentioned? Nope. None. Keep your hard top SUVS... I'll stick with my JK Sahara Unlimited.
dude. i have the same jeep only i changed to a 3.5 inch lift with 35 inch tires and an extra 500 lbs in bumpers as well as the added weight of the tires. I get 17.5 to 18 mpg. it has a K&N cold air intake. your review is a bit off. i have pushed 3.5 feet of water/mud and scaled trails galore that felt near vertical. every single scratch and dent on my "Mall Crawler" i put there myself. i love my daily driver 2013 Jeep Sahara. i have beat the s**t out of it and fixed it and it Continues to be my true love affair on wheels. You know what? Screw it! I'm going Jeepin!
I'm not sure where reliability is with these current gen 5 speeds.

Great review! My son has a 2014 Sahara limited, I know that jeeps are made for off roading more so than highway use. But one has to drive on the highway before one gets off road, I noticed that this jeep loses lots of engine power on inclines, auto transmission keeps continually downshifting to lower gears. Mostly to 3rd but at times down to 2nd at 60 plus MPH! The engine revs of course, tachometer will jump to 6K! Jeep slows while all this is happening, vehicles are passing this jeep on the highway. Once back on flatter highway, jeeps starts to gain speed but slowly. If I want to speed up, trans downshifts over and over again. Driving 70 MPH is difficult but can be done but won't last once another highway incline comes up. Is this common for this type of jeep? This jeep looks so awesome and I can't wait to be with my son off roading with it. Your input will be greatly appreciated sir!

Robert, sounds like the 'learning' component, you can get that reset and it will shift slightly differently as it trys to adapt to the drivers' driving style. You can also assist its learning by manually changing the auto-stick forcing it back into the gear you want.
However another aspect of gradual acceleration is the 'efficiency programing' inside the US version of the WA580 (the 2012 was the ZF made in Europe, the 2013 and later was made under license by Jeep/C-Fiat in the US), so with the US version you kinda need to stomp on it to get it to get back into delivering power, which it will, and the more you doit, the more it learns.
Also, this is not the old 3.8L, it rev-ing to around 6K is not a bad thing, and this engine is built to rev higher and to be comfortable going closer to the top than the older engine(s). It's still not at the level of small displacement import sports car engines, but it's above the old comfort zone.
I have a 2012 Rubicon Auto, and a 2015 Sport Manual, and neither has an issue keeping ~110+ KPH going up a highway incline and I can usually keep it pegged either just below or above 3K (and I live in the Rockies at altitude, which means lots of inclines and reduced engine power due to lowered O2 levels).
I own a 2012 wrangler 6 speed its a great ride smooth and hardley feel any bumps so quite u can whisper at highway speed great view with small blind spots has so much power i can take off like a rocket and and maintain speed.the fuel economy is fantastic it practical sips fuel. then you take it offroad and it can go anywhere you point it.

If they hadn't put a sub in there, I would. Sound for me is the 2nd most important thing in a car, right after the engine. And specially in a vehicle like this, so outdoor inspired, it's good to have great sound quality with the top off!
Im so confused right now. Im getting a new vehicle and its either between the Wrangler unlimited or Ram 1500 Hemi Sport. Both are great in winter, but the jeep has the removable top for summer. Then I hear the Ram is better on fuel, but I want a manual vehicle and there is no Ram with a stick shift. But the truck is way more powerful. I cant decide...
Is this a good city vehicle also ? Regular drive & taking care of errands ?
