  • Planting season is finally here. Fresh off last year's record soybean harvest Matt decides to plant soybeans before he plants corn. This year, he has a new tool to plant his soybeans with, the Bourgualt CD-872 air seeder that he used to plant cover crops and wheat last fall. However, Matt must make a quick decision about how to proceed when he finds out that the air seeder is missing the right attachments to plant into his conditions...

I highly recomment cast iron Yetter Twisters for your front units. They're the best closing wheel I have ever tried.

I’ll keep that in mind. Think they would wrap in cover crop?

@griggsfarmsllc2273 not for sure, but I think they would be OK. The spikes aren't but an inch long and pretty blunt. I do not think it would be enough to grab material and pull it around the wheel.

Get some of those pool noodles and put on the guide wires so you can see them better. Use your loader tractor and put like 3 or 4 of them on each wire

Have you tried pitching the closing wheels on an angle that works best on bourgault

Slugs and bugs are just a couple of the many reasons I gave up no till and cover crop planting just in our area. It was a constant problem not the only problem but a constant problem.

Matt in that new field until they get that tower down get some cans of florescent paint and spray those guide wires about head high give you something to see and maybe tie some boundary tape with lots cheaper that replacing parts.

Those wires are so thin even marking with paint they would still be hard to see. A viewer above had a great idea of putting pool noodles on them

Great video Matt.I noticed a John deer planter and tractor in the background at the opening when you were standing by the Borgault air seeder. Trying out some green paint?

You have the right idea to plant beans first then corn. Up here the beans can take a bit more cold weather than corn seed too. Since you have standing cover (great to see someone planting green!) take a corner of the field the planter didn't fit and broadcast beans into it by hand like planting lawn grass seed and keep watch on it. Last year I broadcast beans into standing rye and it sprouted well, good coverage and I rolled the rye flat after emergence where the beans quickly filled in against any potential weed pressure.

Howdy Matt, Kelly, Andy, I hope ya'll are doing well,
Hey Matt, ive been watching for a few years now, and I'm curious why your not burning down before the planter this year ?? And I gotta say, I would not be thrilled planting in that new Farm, with the cell tower, those support cables are hard to see even in the daytime, let alone planting or harvesting at night, definitely would not enjoy running any piece of equipment in that field lol those support cables should have that bright orange covers over the cables where they're anchored to the ground, I'm surprised that they are not already, especially the cell company knowing it a working Farm, and Farm equipment is being run on it.. Andy did mention he touched 1 of those cables, Thankfully he just touched it, and didn't get hung up it, Great video Matt, Andy, Stay safe, God Bless and Farm on my Friends

I'd put streamers on the tower wires so they are easier to avoid. That would be bad.

I had been wondering all winter if Bourgault was gonna change the seeder around. I know at the show you went to they had a lot of changes made in their planning.

Yes the model I’m running had a lot of pre production options. Based on my feedback they made some changes to the production model

How come yall didn’t shred that field before starting? I know y’all have reasons behind but would love to know why. Thanks and happy growing #2024

Shredding it would serve no purpose and would make it almost impossible to plant into
