  • After quickly getting their soybeans planted, the crew at Griggs Farms does a quick turnaround to start getting some corn planted into some great looking cover crop. With almost ideal planting weather, Matt, Kelly, and Andy race to get the corn crop planted as quickly as possible to start setting some big yields for 2024. Matt shows off the biological product that he's seen big results out of.

    Seems like it’s been forever since I’ve been in the field! Too dry all of April, now it’s wet and rain chances every day next week

    Excellent video and editing, Matt. Some really good shots of the planter at work. Do you ever need to crimp

    Good video Matt, looks as if the season is gonna be another interesting one. Really learn a lot out of your presentations, unfortunately due to advanced age I cannot capitalize on the lessons you provide. Like them though.

    Do u think the dry urea is a better choice rather than liquid Uan could be putting out with the gramoxone in one pass?

    • @griggsfarmsllc

      I use dry urea so I can blend it with ammonium sulfate to meet my sulfur needs

    Not to act stupid, but what is the purpose of planning refuge corn?

    • @griggsfarmsllc

      We have to plant a refuge corn that does not have any genetic modification for insect resistance to help prevent the controlled insects from becoming resistant to the trait.

  • @davedunn2124

    Im not fully understanding the benefit of strips vs full burndown ahead of planter. Hoping someone can explain it to me.

    • @griggsfarmsllc

      I've covered it extensively in previous videos. The burn down strips allow us to have a strip with little residue to plant into in which our planter will do a much better job planting seed shallow such as cotton. It also allows our cover crop to continue to grow maximizing how much biomass they accumulate which great aids in our soil rebuilding and weed control. We get all the benefits of having maximum cover crop biomass out there but with the ease of planting into a no till environment.

    • @davedunn2124

      @griggsfarmsllc2273 ok. That makes sense. Ive missed a few videos. Thank you

  • @brienhansen8006

    With that much biomass do you have problems with slugs

    • @griggsfarmsllc

      Yes they can definitely be an issue if we have cool wet weather that slugs thrive in and cotton struggles in. They can be a major issue if we don't get the seed trench closed either.
