I really like the symbolism of this picture. Dave is so small compared to Bro in this shot, and just completely covered up by his shadow. Kind of like how he spent a lot of his younger life feeling completely trapped in Bro's shadow. Or maybe I'm just reading way to much into this.
People would like to believe art is meaningless it seems... The themes you pointed out are pretty accurate I think. Even if the artist didn't put it into words the way you did, the picture is still visually thematic and pretty rich with meaning.
To be fair, I think Dirk's strange ability to have to be aware of all of his alternate selves would speak volumes in what he decided to do to prepare Dave. Granted Bro and Dirk aren't completely the same person, but we can see that Dream Dirk has a strange amount of self awareness that most false iterations of other characters don't have of the alpha timeline.
